A prediction of streamflow based on multi-objective function is presented to check the performance of Probability Distributed Model(PDM) in Miho stream basin, Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea. PDM is a lumped conceptual rainfall runoff model which has been widely used for flood prevention activities in UK Environmental Agency. The Monte Carlo Analysis Toolkit(MCAT) is a numerical analysis tools based on population sampling, which allows evaluation of performance, identifiability, regional sensitivity and etc. PDM is calibrated for five model parameters by using MCAT. The results show that the performance of model parameters(cmax and k(q)) indicates high identifiability and the others obtain equifinality. In addition, the multi-objective function is applied to PDM for seeking suitable model parameters. The solution of the multi-objective function consists of the Pareto solution accounting to various trade-offs between the different objective functions considering properties of hydrograph. The result indicated the performance of model and simulated hydrograph are acceptable in terms on Nash Sutcliffe Effciency*(=0.035), FSB(=0.161), and FDBH(=0.809) to calibration periods, validation periods as well.
Water distribution systems (WDSs) are a representative infrastructure injecting chlorine to disinfect the pathogenic microorganisms and supplying water from sources to consumers. Also, WDSs prescribe to maintain the usual standard (0.1-4.0 mg/L) of residual chlorine. However, the user's usage pattern, water age, network shape, and type affect the hydraulic features (i.e. nodal pressure, pipe velocity) and water quality features (i.e., the residual chlorine concentration). Therefore, this study developed an optimization approach for optimizing WDSs considering water quality-hydraulic factors using Multi-objective Harmony Search (MOHS). The design cost and the system resilience were applied as the design objective functions, and the nodal pressure and the concentration of residual chlorine are used as constraints. The derived optimal designs through this approach were analyzed according to network characteristics such as the network shapes and type. These optimal designs can meet the safety of economic and water quality aspects to increase user acceptance.
Supply chain management is a subject that has an increasing importance due to the developments in the global markets and technology. In this paper, a fuzzy multi-objective linear programming model is developed for the supply chain of a company dealing with procurement, storage, filling, and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Turkey. The model intends to determine the quantities of LPG to be procured, stored, filled to cylinders, and transported between the plants and demand centers for six planning periods. In this model, which aims to minimize both total costs (sum of procurement, storage, filling, and transportation costs) and total transportation distances, demand quantities of the main demand centers and decision maker's aspiration levels about objective functions are fuzzy. After comparing the results obtained from the model with those obtained by using different methods, it is concluded that the proposed method can be applied to real world problems practically and it may be used in this type of problems in order to generate an efficient solution.
In this paper, evolutionary multi-objective selection method of RBF networks structure is considered. The candidates of RBF network structure are encoded into the chromosomes in GAs. Then, they evolve toward Pareto-optimal front defined by several objective functions concerning with model accuracy and model complexity. An ensemble network constructed by such Pareto-optimal models is also considered in this paper. Some numerical simulation results indicate that the ensemble network is much robust for the case of existence of outliers or lack of data, than one selected in the sense of information criteria.
In this article, we suggest a two-dimensional genetic algorithm (GA) method that applies a cognitive radio (CR) decision engine which determines the optimal transmission parameters for multicarrier communication systems. Because a CR is capable of sensing the previous environmental communication information, CR decision engine plays the role of optimizing the individual transmission parameters. In order to obtain the allowable transmission power of multicarrier based CR system demands interference analysis a priori, for the sake of efficient optimization, a two-dimensionalGA structure is proposed in this paper which enhances the computational complexity. Combined with the fitness objective evaluation standard, we focus on two multi-objective optimization methods: The conventional GA applied with the multi-objective fitness approach and the non-dominated sorting GA with Pareto-optimal sorting fronts. After comparing the convergence performance of these algorithms, the transmission power of each subcarrier is proposed as non-interference emission with its optimal values in multicarrier based CR system.
This paper introduces the process for Multi-objective Optimization Framework (MOF) which mediates multiple conflicting design targets. Even though the extensive researches have shown the benefits of optimization in engineering and design disciplines, most optimizations have been limited to the performance-related targets or the single-objective optimization which seek optimum solution within one design parameter. In design practice, however, designers should consider the multiple parameters whose resultant purposes are conflicting. The MOF is a BIM-integrated and simulation-based parametric workflow capable of optimizing the configuration of building components by using performance and non-performance driven measure to satisfy requirements including build programs, climate-based daylighting, occupant's experience, construction cost and etc. The MOF will generate, evaluate all different possible configurations within the predefined each parameter, present the most optimized set of solution, and then feed BIM environment to minimize data loss across software platform. This paper illustrates how Multi-objective optimization methodology can be utilized in design practice by integrating advanced simulation, optimization algorithm and BIM.

This paper is concerned with a sequencing problem in mixed model assembly lines, which is important to efficient utilization of the lines. In the problem, we deal with the two objectives of minimizing the risk of stoppage and leveling part usage, and consider sequence-dependent setup time. In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm(GA) suitable for the multi-objective optimization problem. The aim of multi-objective optimization problems is to find all possible non-dominated solutions. The proposed algorithm is compared with existing multi-objective GAs such as vector evaluated GA, Pareto GA, and niched Pareto GA. The results show that our algorithm outperforms the compared algorithms in finding good solutions and diverse non-dominated solutions.
This research proposes a Pareto-based multi-objective optimization approach to class-based storage warehouse design, considering a two-block warehouse that operates under the class-based storage policy in a low-level, picker-to-part and narrow aisle warehousing system. A mathematical model is formulated to determine the number of aisles, the length of aisle and the partial length of each pick aisle to allocate to each product class that minimizes the travel distance and maximizes the usable storage space. A solution approach based on multiple objective particle swarm optimization is proposed to find the Pareto front of the problems. Numerical examples are given to show how to apply the proposed algorithm. The results from the examples show that the proposed algorithm can provide design alternatives to conflicting warehouse design decisions.

Redundancy-reliability allocation problems in multi-stage series-parallel systems are addressed in this study. Fuzzy programming techniques are proposed for finding satisfactory solutions. First, a multi-objective programming model is formulated for simultaneously maximizing system reliability and minimizing system total cost. Due to the nature of uncertainty in the problem, the fuzzy set theory and technique are used to convert the deterministic multi-objective programming model into a fuzzy nonlinear programming problem. A heuristic method is developed to get satisfactory solutions for the fuzzy nonlinear programming problem. A Pareto optimal solution is found with maximal degree of satisfaction from the interception area of fuzzy sets. A case study that is related to the electronic control unit installed on aircraft engine over-speed protection system is used to implement the developed approach. Results suggest that the developed fuzzy multi-objective programming model can effectively resolve the fuzzy and uncertain problem when design goals and constraints are not clearly confirmed at the initial conceptual design phase.
In this work, a comparative study of multi-objective meta-heuristics (MOMHs) for optimum design of a walking tractor handlebar is conducted in order to reduce the structural mass and increase structural static and dynamic stiffness. The design problem has objective functions as maximising structural natural frequencies, minimising structural mass, bending deflection and torsional deflection with stress constraints. The problem is classified as a many-objective optimisation since there are more than three objectives. Design variables are structural shape and size. Several well established multi-objective optimisers are employed to solve the proposed many-objective optimisation problems of the walking tractor handlebar. The results are compared whereas optimum design solutions of the walking tractor handlebar are illustrated.
