  • A new analytical derivation of the elastodynamic point load solutions for an isotropic multi-layered half-space is presented by means of the precise integration method (PIM) and the approach of dual vector. The time-harmonic external load is prescribed either on the external boundary or in the interior of the solid medium. Starting with the axisymmetric governing motion equations in a cylindrical coordinate system, a second order ordinary differential matrix equation can be gained by making use of the Hankel integral transform. Employing the technique of dual vector, the second order ordinary differential matrix equation can be simplified into a first-order one. The approach of PIM is implemented to obtain the solutions of the ordinary differential matrix equation in the Hankel integral transform domain. The PIM is a highly accurate algorithm to solve sets of first-order ordinary differential equations and any desired accuracy of the dynamic point load solutions can be achieved. The numerical simulation is based on algebraic matrix operation. As a result, the computational effort is reduced to a great extent and the computation is unconditionally stable. Selected numerical trials are given to validate the accuracy and applicability of the proposed approach. More examples are discussed to portray the dependence of the load-displacement response on the isotropic parameters of the multi-layered media, the depth of external load and the frequency of excitation.

  • A lot of underground construction projects have been conducted by economical, social and military purposes in Korea for the last three decades. As a result, magnificent amount of data were obtained from geological site investigations, laboratory and field tests, design and field monitoring. But up to now, these valuable informations were neither systematically stored nor utilized efficiently resulting in a great loss of time and money. In this study, a database system named GeoINFO was developed using Microsoft Access 97 for management of informations which can be obtained from underground construction. The developed database system is especially designed to cover three major types of underground facilities-tunnels, underground storages and rock slopes and has multi-layered tree structures for data input. The system also has a unique indexing system for efficient data search using Visual Basic code.

  • As the time spent in indoor space has increased, the demand for services targeting indoor spaces also continues to increase. To provide indoor spatial information services, the construction of indoor spatial information should be done first. In the study, a method of generation IndoorGML, which is the international standard data format for Indoor space, from existing BIM data. The characteristics of IFC objects were investigated, and objects that need to be converted to IndoorGML were selected and classified into objects that restrict the expression of Indoor space and internal passages. Using the proposed method, a part of data set provided by the BIMserver github and the IFC model of the 21st Century Building in University of Seoul were used to perform experiments to generate PrimalSpaceFeatures of IndoorGML. As a result of the experiments, the geometric information of IFC objects was represented completely as IndoorGML, and it was shown that NavigableBoundary, one of major features of PrimalSpaceFeatures in IndoorGML, was accurately generated. In the future, the proposed method will improve to generate various types of objects such as IfcStair, and additional method for automatically generating MultiLayeredGraph of IndoorGML using PrimalSpaceFeatures should be developed to be sure of completeness of IndoorGML.

  • In the contemporary city, which is an information-oriented society, human is evolving for responding to the various situation. Because the city has changed into the multi-layered network system, which is different from the paths in the past, the paths in the city have become the usual space of life. The active programmed space which is corresponding to citizen's spontaneous activities should be reflected in the path of city However, the current subway station, which is the main path of the city, is not equipped with the elements responding to the various possibilities of citizens. So this study suggests the programmed station as the extended space of citizen's daily lives.

  • This paper presents dynamic infinite elements for soil-structure interaction analysis. In order to discretize the far field of the unbounded soil media, axisymmetric infinite elements which are capable of propagating multi-waves are proposed. An efficient numerical integration scheme for constructing the element characteristic matrices of the infinite elements in developed based on Gauss-Laguerre quadrature. The efficiency of the infinite elements is demonstrated by comparing the computed impedances of rigid circular footings on an elastic half space and on a layered half spaces with those obtained analytically.

  • This paper presents a study of soil-structure interaction problems using infinite elements. The infinite elements are formulated for homogeneous and layered soil media, based on approximate expressions for three components of propagating waves, namely the Rayleigh, compressive and shear waves. The integration scheme which was proposed for problems with single wave component by waves. The integration scheme which was proposed for problems with single wave component by Zenkiewicz is expanded to the multi-waves problem. Verifications are carried out on rigid circular footings which are placed on and embedded in elastic half space. Numerical analysis is performed for a containment structure of a nuclear power plant subjected to a horizontal seismic excitation.

  • Variation of seismic wave field in a multi-layered attenuating elastic half space is studied by the propagator matrix method and point source models of which fault-slip functions are defined as ramp functions. In this paper, the earth is modeled as being composed of horizontally stratified layers, with uniform material properties for each layer. The partial differential equations for the seismic motion in each layer are solved using a Fourier Hankel transform approach. Time histories and frequency contents of accelerations and displacements due to a vertical dip-slip and strike-slip point source located in the underlain half space are calculated at the layer interfaces using the developed programs and their characteristics are represented.

  • A time domain method is presented for soil-structure interaction analysis under seismic excitations. It is based on the finite element formulation incorporating infinite elements for the far field soil region. Equivalent earthquake input forces are calculated based on the free field responses along the interface between the near and far field soil regions utilizing the fixed exterior boundary method in the frequency domain. Then, the input forces are transformed into the time domain by using inverse Fourier transform. The dynamic stiffness matrices of the far field soil region formulated using the analytical frequency-dependent infinite elements in the frequency domain can be easily transformed into the corresponding matrices in the time domain. Hence, the response can be analytically computed in the time domain. A recursive procedure is proposed to compute the interaction forces along the interface and the responses of the soil-structure system in the time domain. Earthquake response analyses have been carried out on a multi-layered half-space and a tunnel embedded in a layered half-space with the assumption of the linearity of the near and far field soil region, and results are compared with those obtained by the conventional method in the frequency domain.

  • Multi-dimensional data play a crucial role in various fields, as like computer graphics, geographical information system, and multimedia applications. Indexing method fur multi-dimensional data Is a very Important factor in overall system performance. What is proposed in this paper is a new dynamic access method for spatial objects called HL-CIF(Hierarchically Layered Caltech Intermediate Form) tree which requires small amount of storage space and facilitates efficient query processing. HL-CIF tree is a combination of hierarchical management of spatial objects and CIF tree in which spatial objects and sub-regions are associated with representative points. HL-CIF tree adopts "centroid" of spatial objects as the representative point. By reflecting objects′sizes and positions in its structure, HL-CIF tree guarantees the high spatial locality of objects grouped in a sub-region rendering query processing more efficient.
