Effects of Co addition on sliding wear properties of multi-component white cast iron were investigated. The microstructures of multi-component white cast iron containing from 0%Co to 10%Co exhibited little difference. However, the hardness increased with an increase of the Co content. Increasing the Co content, wear properties were improved and the iron oxide on worn surface was increased in the low sliding speed range of the steady-state wear region. Hence, Co addition was effective to improve the wear properties of multi-component white cast iron by accelerating the corrosive wear as well as the enhancement effect of hardness.
The effects of carbide and matrix structures on the abrasion wear resistance of multi-component white cast irons with 3.0 mass%C have been studied in this paper. Four different heats were poured in order to obtain the specimens with different combinations of the carbide structures: a basic iron(3.0 mass%C-5.0 mass%Cr-5.0 mass%V-5.0 mass% Mo-12.5mass%W)for M$_{6}$C and M$_{7}$C$_{3}$ carbides, and a Cr free iron(3.0 mass%C-5.0 mass%V-2.5mass%Mo-12.5 mass%W) for MC and M6C carbides. A conventional high Cr free free iron(3.0 mass%C-5.0 mass%V-2.5 mass%Mo-12.5 mass%W) for MC and M6C carbides. A conventional high Cr white cast iron was also poured to compare its wear resistance with those of the multi-component white cast irons. In the as-cast condition, the range of abrasive wear rate(Rw=mg/min) was from 4.15 to 5.98 . The lowest Rw, which means the highest wear resistance, was obtained in the basic iron with nodular MC, lamellar M$_{2}$C and cellular M$_{7}$C$_{3}$ carbides. On the other hand, the Rw of the high Cr white cast iron ranked between the basic iron and the Mo and W free iron. In each alloy, the Rw of air hardened or tempered specimen was lower than that of the as-cast one because of the change of matrix structures by the heat treatments. The Rw of the hear treated speci-mens increased in the order Mo and W free iron, basic iron, Cr free iron, high Cr iron, and V free iron.n.n.n.
Ductile cast iron has a good ductility and toughness than those of gray cast iron, because the shape of graphite is spheroidal. Also, it has been reported that, additional strengthening and toughening of the ductile cast iron can be obtainded from the proper combination of matrix structures by the heat treatment and addition of alloying elements. In this study the effect of special heat treatment and addition of alloying elements(Ni, Mo) on the multi-phase(ferrite-bainite-martensite) structures, strength and toughness of ductile cast iron were studied systematically. In water quenching from $770^{\circ}C$, the martensite volume(%) increased, but the ferrite volume(%) decreased with increment of Ni content. In as cast, pearlite volume(%) and hardness increased with increment of Mo and Ni contents. And with the increment of the destabilization austempering holding time, the bainite volume(%) increased but the martensite volume(%) decreased. As destabilization austempering holding time is same, bainite volume(%) decreased, martensite increased with the increment of Ni and Mo contents. The hardness and tensile strength decreased, but impact energy increased with the decrease of Ni and Mo contents, and increment of holding time of destabilization austempering treatment.
This study is aimed to investigate the effects of the multi-phase(ferrite-bainite-martensite) on the strengthening and toughening in ductile cast iron. All the specimen were austenitized at eutectoid transformation temperature range(${\alpha}+{\gamma}$) for 1hr and austempered at $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ for various holding time, and then quenched in iced water for multi - phase (${\alpha}-B-M$). When the volume fraction of martensite is below 15%, excellent maximum fracture load can be obtained due to strengthening by the fine martensite, but, with increasing of volume fraction over 15%, it was decreased drastically. The martensite size became finer and the shape of it changed from bar to spherical type with increasing of austempering holding time. The higher the austenitizing temperature is, the more preferential is the formation of austenite phase around the graphite nodules improving strength and toughness of austempered ductile cast iron.

Tri-crystalline silicon (Tri-Si) wafers have three different orientations and three grain boundaries. In this paper, tri-Si wafers have been used for the fabrication of buried contact solar cells. The optical and micro-structural properties of these cells after texturing in KOH solution have been investigated and compared with those of cast multi-crystalline silicon (multi-Si) wafers. We employed a cost effective fabrication process and achieved buried contact solar cell (BCSC) energy conversion efficiencies up to 15% whereas the cast multi-Si wafer has efficiency around 14%.
Three different multi-component white cast irons alloyed with Cr, V, Mo and W were prepared in order to study their as-cast and solidification structures. Three combinations of the alloying elements were selected so as to obtain the different types of carbides and matrix structures : 3%C-10%Cr-5%Mo-5%W(alloy No.1), 3%C-10%V-5% Mo-5%W(alloy No. 2) and 3%C-17%Cr-3% V(alloy No.3). The as-cast microstructures were investigated with optical and scanning electron microscopes. There existed two different types of carbides, $M_7C_3$ carbide with rod-like morphology and $M_6C$ carbide with fishbone-like one, and matrix in the alloy No. 1. The alloy No. 2 consisted of MC carbide with chunky and flaky type and needle-like $M_2C$ carbide, and matrix. The chunky type referred to primary MC carbide and the flaky one to eutectic MC carbide. The morphology of the alloy No. 3 represented a typical hypo-eutectic high chromium white cast iron composed of rod-like $M_7C_3$ carbide which is very sensitive to heat flow direction and matrix. To clarify the solidification sequence, each iron(50g) was remelted at 1723K in an alumina crucible using a silicon carbide resistance furnace under argon atmosphere. The molten iron was cooled at the rate of 10K/min and quenched into water at several temperatures during thermal analysis. The solidification structures of the specimen were found to consist of austenite dendrite(${\gamma}$), $ ({\gamma}+ M_7C_3)$ eutectic and $({\gamma}+ M_6C)$ eutectic in the alloy No. 1, proeutectic MC, austenite dendrite(${\gamma}$), (${\gamma}$+MC) eutectic and $({\gamma}+ M_2C)$ eutectic in the alloy No. 2, and proeutectic $M_7C_3$ and $ ({\gamma}+ M_7C_3)$ eutectic in the alloy No 3. respectively.

Rotary bending fatigue tests were carried out to investigate the improvement of fatigue limit in annealed and austempered spheroidal graphite cast iron. Main results obtained are as follows. (1) The tensile strength(hardness) of Series C is higher than that of Series B, and fatigue limits are 245MPa in Series C, 230MPa in Series B and 195MPa in Series A, respectively. (2) The fatigue limits of Series B and Series A are mainly governed by the resistance to fatigue crack initiation. Whereas, the fatigue limit of Series C is governed by the resistance to fatigue crack initiation and growth. The defect size and the resistance to crack initiation and growth should be considered to clarify the fatigue properties in spheroidal graphite cast iron. (3) Improvement of fatigue limit by half-austempering is more reasonable than that of full-austempering treatment in multi defective materials as spheroidal graphite cast iron.

With the extension of wireless technology, vehicular ad hoc networks provide important services for the dissemination of general data and emergency warnings. However, since, the vehicle topology frequently changes from a dense to a sparse network depending on the speed of the moving vehicles and the time of day, vehicular ad hoc networks require a protocol that can facilitate the efficient and reliable dissemination of emergency messages in a highly mobile environment under dense or intermittent vehicular connectivity. Therefore, this paper proposes a new vehicular broadcast protocol, called BL-CAST, that can operate effectively in both dense and sparse network scenarios. As a low overhead multi-hop broadcast protocol, BL-CAST does not rely on the periodic exchange of beacons for updating location information. Instead, the location information of a vehicle is included in a broadcast message to identify the last rebroadcasting vehicle in an intermittently connected network. Simulation results show that BL-CAST outperforms the DV-CAST protocol in terms of the end-to-end delay, message delivery ratio and network overhead.
