Morphologic and Genetic Evidence for Mixed Infection with Two Myxobolus Species (Myxozoa: Myxobolidae) in Gray Mullets, Mugil cephalus, from Korean Waters

  • The present study was performed to trace the decisive evidence for mixed infection of 2 Myxobolus species, M. episquamalis and Myxobolus sp., in the gray mullet, Mugil cephalus, from Korean waters. Mullets with whitish cyst-like plasmodia on their scales were collected near a sewage plant in Yeosu, southern part of Korea, in 2009. The cysts were mainly located on scales and also found in the intestine. The spores from scales were oval in a frontal view, tapering anteriorly to a blunt apex, and measured $7.2{\mu}m$ (5.8-8.0) in length and $5.3{\mu}m$ (4.7-6.1) in width. Two polar capsules were pyriform and extended over the anterior half of the spore, measuring $3.5{\mu}m$ (2.3-4.8) in length and $2.0{\mu}m$ (1.5-2.2) in width. In contrast, the spores from the intestine were ellipsoidal, $10.4{\mu}m$ (9.0-11.9) in length and $8.4{\mu}m$ (7.3-10.1) in width. The polar capsules were pyriform but did not extend over the anterior half of the spore, $3.7{\mu}m$ (2.5-4.5) in length and $2.2{\mu}m$ (1.8-2.9) in width. The nucleotide sequences of the 18S rDNA gene of the 2 myxosporean spores from scales and intestine showed 88.1% identity to each other and 100% identity with M. episquamalis and 94.5% identity with M. spinacurvatura from mullet, respectively. By the above findings, it is first confirmed that mullets from the Korean water are infected with 2 myxosporean species, M. episquamalis and Myxobolus sp.

Anticariogenic Activity of Callistemon citrinus Extract against Streptococcus mutans

  • Streptococcus mutans is known as a strong cariogenic bacterium and produces dental caries. This study was carried out to develop anticariogenic agents from Callistemon citrinus. Crude extracts and thier various solvent fractions of the plant extracts were tested for the antibacterial activity against S. mutans. The anticariogenic activity was evaluated with by paper disc diffusion method and minimal inhibition concentration (MIC). The extract from the fruit and its hexane fraction showed a strong inhibitory effect on the growth of S. mutans and the MICs were 31.2 and $3.9{\mu}g/m{\ell}$, respectively.

젖소 초유 중 Insulin-like Growth Factor-I 분획이 암세포에 미치는 영향

  • IGF-I rich fraction 분리는 분만 후 24시간이내에 착유한 젖소 초유를 30kDa과 1kDa Ultrafiltra-tion(UF) membrane을 이용하여 분리하였다. 분리한 IGF-I rich fraction은 sandwich ELISA로 정량한 결과 1mg/ml 각 암세포에 미치는 영향을 실험하였다. 그 결과IGF-I rich fraction $1mg/m{\ell}$의 농도로 처리하였을 때 A-427ce11은 33%, SK-HEP-1 cell은 약 2%, A498 cell은 약 22%의 암세포 성장저해 효과를 보였고 HeLa는 약 5% 이하의 세포 증식 저해율과 WiDr cell은 약 30%의 세포성장 저해율을 나타내었으며, 유일하게 위암 세포주인 SNU 16에 대해서는 $1mg/m{\ell}$$100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$$10{\sim}1{\mu}g/m{\ell}$의 농도에서 약 15%와 10% 및 약 5% 이하의 세포 증식율을 나타내었다.

IMT-Advanced 표준을 지원하는 이중대역 0.13-μm CMOS 송신기 RF Front-End 설계 (A Dual-Band Transmitter RF Front-End for IMT-Advanced system in 0.13-μm CMOS Technology)

  • 본 논문에서는 IMT-Advanced 시스템에 적용할 수 있는 0.13-${\mu}m$ CMOS 이중대역 송신단 RF Front-End를 제안한 다. 제안하는 이중대역 송신단 RF Front-End는 3 세대(802.11), 3.5 세대(Mobile WiMAX), 그리고 4 세대(IMT-Advanced) 시스템 주파수 대역을 모두 지원하기 위해서 2300~2700 MHz와 3300~3800 MHz의 이중 주파수 대역을 지원한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 이중대역 송신단 RF Front-End는 1.2 V의 공급 전원에서 45mA의 전류를 소모한다. 회로의 성능은 레이아웃 후 검증(Post Layout Simulation)을 통해 검증하였으며, 2 GHz 대역에서 +0 dBm의 출력 파워, 3 GHz 대역에서 +1.3 dBm의 출력 파워를 나타낸다.

  • Recently, increasing demand on not only lighter but also extremely mobile battery make micro fuel cell device very attractive alternative. By reducing the size of fuel cell, surface tension becomes dominant factor with minor gravitational effect. Therefore, it is very difficult to detach the $CO_2$ bubble generating on a cathode side in ${\mu}DMFC$ (micro direct methanol fuel cell). The degassing of a $CO_2$ bubble has drawn quite attention especially for ${\mu}DMFC$ due to its considerable effect on overall machine performance. Our attention has been paid to the dynamic behavior of immiscible bubble attached to the one side of the wall on 2D rectangular channel subject to external shear flow. We use Level Contour Reconstruction Method (LCRM) which is simplified version of front tracking method to track the bubble interface motion. Effects of Reynolds number, Weber number, advancing/receding contact angle and property ratio on bubble detachment characteristic has been numerically identified.

Combinatorial Auction-Based Two-Stage Matching Mechanism for Mobile Data Offloading

  • In this paper, we study the problem of mobile data offloading for a network that contains multiple mobile network operators (MNOs), multiple WiFi or femtocell access points (APs) and multiple mobile users (MUs). MNOs offload their subscribed MUs' data traffic by leasing the unused Internet connection bandwidth of third party APs. We propose a combinatorial auction-based two-stage matching mechanism comprised of MU-AP matching and AP-MNO matching. The MU-AP matching is designed to match the MUs to APs in order to maximize the total offloading data traffic and achieve better MU satisfaction. Conversely, for AP-MNO matching, MNOs compete for APs' service using the Nash bargaining solution (NBS) and the Vickrey auction theories and, in turn, APs will receive monetary compensation. We demonstrated that the proposed mechanism converges to a distributed stable matching result. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm well capture the tradeoff among the total data traffic, social welfare and the QoS of MUs compared to other schemes. Moreover, the proposed mechanism can considerably offload the total data traffic and improve the network social welfare with less computation complexity and communication overhead.

Increasement of Eleutherosides and Antioxidant Activity in Eleutherococcus senticosus Adventitious Root by Jasmonic acid

  • This study was carried out to investigate the impacts of jasmonic acid (JA) on adventitious root culture of Eleutherococcus senticosus. Adventitious root of E. senticosus were treated with jasmonic acid (JA) and cultured for 30 days. JA inhibited the root growth but increased eleutherosides accumulation, total phenolic contents and antioxidant activity. Among various concentrations of JA, 1.0 mg/L JA increased the total phenolic contents in E. senticosus adventitious root to $39.81{\mu}g/g$, about 2.6 times higher than that of the control. Consequently, high accumulation of total phenolic contents led to increase the antioxidant activity to 82.41%. The antioxidant activity of control was 37.89% at $2500{\mu}g/mL$. A linear correlation ($R^2$ = 0.9937, 0.9648 and 0.9883) was also shown between antioxidant activity (at 1250, 1875, and $2500{\mu}g/mL$) and total phenolic contents of adventitious root of E. senticosus.

가시오갈피나무 부정근(不定根) 배양(培養)에서 부정근(不定根)의 생장(生長)과 Eleutheroside류(類)의 생산(生産)에 미치는 Methyl jasmonate 처리(處理)의 영향 (Effect of Methyl Jasmonate on the Root Growth and the Eleutheroside Accumulation in the Adventitious Root Culture of Eleutherococcus senticosus)

  • 생물반응기를 이용한 가시오갈피 부정근 배양시에 methyl jasmonate를 농도별 (0, 5, 10, 20, 40 및 80 ${\mu}M$)로 처리하여 부정근의 생장과 eleutheroside류 생산과의 관계를 조사하였다. Methyl jasmonate 처리농도별 부정근의 생장은 무처리구에서 5.4 g dry weight(DW)/L로 가장 높았으며 methyl jasmonate 농도가 증가할수록 부정근 생장은 감소하였다. 그러나 eleutheroside B의 함량은 methyl jasmonate 농도가 높을수록 증가하여 40 ${\mu}M$ 처리구에서 각각 359.9 ${\mu}g$/g DW로 생산량이 가장 많았다. 반면에 eleutheroside E와 $E_1$은 10 ${\mu}M$ 처리구에서 각각 798.1 ${\mu}g$/g DW, 19.7 ${\mu}g$/g DW로 생산량이 가장 많았다. 배지 1 L당 eleutheroside류의 총생산량은 10 ${\mu}M$ 처리구에서 3818.1 ${\mu}g$/L를 생산하여 가장 우수하였다. 20 ${\mu}M$의 methyl jasmonate 처리 후 15일간 eleutheroside류의 함량을 조사한 결과 eleutheroside B는 methyl jasmonate처리 후 12일째, eleutheroside E는 처리 후 3일째, eleutheroside $E_1$은 처리 후 9일째 각각 가장 많은 생산량을 보여 주었다.

대형갈조류 감태(Ecklonia cava Kjellman) 유리배우체의 재생 및 성숙 유도 (Regeneration and Maturation Induction for the Free-living Gametophytes of Ecklonia cava Kjellman (Laminariales, Phaeophyta))

  • Induction of regeneration and maturation for the free-living gametophytes of Ecklonia cava Kjellman was conducted under various temperature, irradiance and photoperiod conditions. Culture conditions for female or male gametophyte fragments were 4 temperature (5, 10, 15 and $20^{\circ}C$), 4 irradiance (5, 10, 20 and $40{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) and 3 photoperiod (14:10, 12:12 and 10:14 h L:D). Female and male gametophyte fragments were maintained in active regeneration without reaching sexual maturity under $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$, $5{\sim}10{\mu}mol{\cdot}m-2{\cdot}s-1$, 12:12h or 10:14h (L:D) and $15-20^{\circ}C$, $20-40{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, 14:10h (L:D), respectively. Sexual maturation of female and male gametophytes facilitated under $15^{\circ}C$, $20-40{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, 14:10h (L:D) and $5-10^{\circ}C$, $5-10{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, 10:14h (L:D), respectively. These results provide basic informations to control the regeneration or maturation of the free-living gametophytes for artificial seed production of E. cava.
