Volumetric Image System for High Efficiency Video Coding (고효율 비디오코딩을 위한 입체영상시스템)

  • Volumetric image system has many applications recently in education, 3D movie, medical images but these applications have several problems that need to be overcome. Volumetric display may process a amount of visual data and design the high efficient vision system for realtime display. In case of stereo system for volumetric display motion vectors, disparity vectors from the stereoscopic sequences and residual images with the reference images has been transmitted, and the stereoscopic sequences have been reconstructed at the receiver for volumetric display. So central issue for the design of efficient volumetric image system lies in selecting an appropriate stereo matching and robust vision system. In this paper, we proposed high efficient vision system, which design vision stage with rotating and moving horizontally, and match the successive stereo image efficiently. In experimental results with volumetric image system, the proposed method represents high efficiency with minimizing error and low computational load for volumetric display.

Possibilities and Limitations of Virtual Reality Based Content - Focused on the Theme Park (가상현실 기반 콘텐츠의 가능성과 한계 - 테마파크를 중심으로)

  • Recently, virtual reality contents are being experimented and introduced in various fields such as game, education, medical, exhibition, movie, SNS. However, research on virtual reality is mainly focused on industrial and technological perspectives, so contents-centric or contents-oriented research is on virtual reality is very rare. In order to prepare for the future of virtual reality properly, content-oriented research is very much needed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the types, characteristics, and possibilities of virtual reality contents applied to theme parks. For this purpose, we tried to classify the contents type of virtual reality based theme park. The criteria of type classification are divided into 'fixed type', 'continuous moving type', and 'segmented moving type' according to the player's position movement possibility and movement type, here we combine the senses such as tactile, taste, smell, balance etc.

  • These days, with the advent of digital broadcasting, media environment offers users an opportunity to enjoy differentiated contents in a more aggressive fashion through user-media interactions based on computer technology. In fact, the development of contents which can induce spontaneous acts from users such as outdoor ads which use certain sensors and devices and exhibition halls has been active. With the development of low-price motion recognition devices, people have been able to enjoy diverse interaction-applied media by recognizing users' motion data without body contact. In this paper, we developed an interactive media player that can recognize the user's motion and control the video in the web service environment without installing a specific program. In addition, we set user motion recognition range and developed a user motion recognition algorithm suitable for the Leap Motion equipment installed in the kiosk. The results of this study can be experienced by various interactive media such as interactive tourism, education, and movie contents in kiosks that can be installed in public places.

An Analysis on the Internet Uses and Barriers of the Older Adults in Korea (고령층의 인터넷 활용 및 장애 요인 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the patterns and barriers of the Internet for the elderly adults in Korea. Data was collected through the face to face interview using a questionnaire for the residence of Daegu and Kyungsang Buk-Do areas targeted over the 60-years-olds elder adults. A total of 119 valid response data were analyzed with the descriptive statistics and the group differences by age and gender using SPSS 18.00. It found that the most of the elder adults access the Internet to seek the entertainment contents, the knowledge-related contents, and the cultural and art contents. They spend most of the Internet online session to do searching information and enjoying movie and music. However, there were age differences and gender differences within the subjects. The complexity of computer and the Internet usage is one of the barriers for the Internet access, and they suggest that a customized education and training courses of computer literacy for the elderly adults would be the ways of resolve those obstructions.

  • With the help of information technology for a film, characteris both the composition of the story and one of the most important elements that lead the story. Character has a close relationship with personality description, and the character's age, background, education, and occupation help decide his or her personality. Charades are important in that by describing a character's psychology using charade techniques, it gives a stronger impression than by describing with merely lines or narration. When a man's thought changes, their behavior changes; when a behavior is repeated, it becomes habit; when a habit is repeated, it becomes nature. The nature is the person's personality, otherwise called character. Therefore, charade techniques describe a character's psychology well, and consequently, it has maintained its importance. Because human nature and in-depth psychological description have a connection with a character's personality development, I would like to discuss the topic through this research. By using Director Shunji Iwai's "April Story" as the text, the effects of charade techniques on a character's personality development in film will be analyzed by seeking and presenting the methodology shown within the work through charade-acting techniques used by the characters for the development of character's personality.

  • Culture contents are connected directly with our lives. Experts who produce culture contents or work at such industry or most of people regardless of age and gender are exposed to media contents like movie, game, animation, broadcasting and advertising. There are a number of users who use smart phones and smart pads which can view such media contents. The era of smart device which people easily surf, watch, and produce media contents will be opened. Therefore, the efficient curriculum for producing more touchable media contents should be developed continuously. Most of people recognize the necessity of educations to enhance creativity at university education. This paper intended to research the method of roles curriculum of university produce culture contents which stimulate emotion, creative and show new technology. This paper suggests academic curriculum for department of culture and contents based on the basics, even though new media device emerges the proper talents can be fostered.

  • With rapid development in ultra fast communication and digital multimedia, the realistic broadcasting technology, that can stimulate five human senses beyond the conventional audio-visual service is emerging as a new generation broadcasting technology. In this paper, we introduce a haptic broadcasting system and related core system and component techniques by which we can 'touch and feel' objects in an audio-visual scene. The system is composed of haptic media acquisition and creation, contents authoring, in the haptic broadcasting, the haptic media can be 3-D geometry, dynamic properties, haptic surface properties, movement, tactile information to enable active touch and manipulation and passive movement following and tactile effects. In the proposed system, active haptic exploration and manipulation of a 3-D mesh, active haptic exploration of depth video, passive kinesthetic interaction, and passive tactile interaction can be provided as potential haptic interaction scenarios and a home shopping, a movie with tactile effects, and conducting education scenarios are produced to show the feasibility of the proposed system.

  • With the advent of integration environment of broadcasting and communication, IPTV has been widely used. It provides services such as information, movie contents and broadcasting through TV using super-high speed networks. Developments of Wireless LAN and IP network technology create various and fusional services such as IPTV, VoIP that are based on IP network. The development of Wireless LAN is very important in IPTV network field which requires the best quality of service on the security, QoS and bandwidth. In this Paper, We configure the experimental network in its RIP and OSPF environment to test the Video Quality of IPTV in Wireless LAN. We measure and evaluate broadcasting quality by using PSNR to show the corelation of Routing Protocols in Wireless LAN in which how they affect to the IPTV real-time Video Quality.

Effects of Reading Aloud on International Students' English Formulaic Sequences Learning (소리 내어 읽기가 유학생의 영어 정형화 배열 학습에 미치는 영향)

  • Formulaic sequences are continuous or discontinuous series of words that are seemingly treated like single units. Formulaic sequences play a key role in language development, and formulaic sequences acquisition determines the success or failure of language development. This study proposes a reading aloud activity as a way for international students to learn formulaic sequences. A class focused on reading aloud was conducted with 41 international students taking a general English course at a university in Seoul. For 15 weeks, video lectures and real-time Zoom classes were conducted in parallel. The animated film Frozen was used as course material. In the video lectures, the teacher interpreted the movie script in easy Korean and read aloud formulaic sequences. Students were tasked with reading the sentences with formulaic sequences aloud, recording themselves reading aloud, and submitting their recordings. During real-time class meetings, students performed the activity of reading aloud the formulaic sequences they had studied in the video lectures. There was a significant increase in the interpretation and sentence writing of formulaic sequences in participants' post-evaluation compared to the pre-evaluation. Through the study's survey, students exhibited positive views in the affective domains.
