The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mandibular movements of TMD patients comparing to normal persons. Sirognathograph was used to measure five parameters of mandibular movements of twenty normal persons and eight TMD patients. Five parameters were (1) Maximum opening during maximum opening and closing, (2) Mean velocity during maximum opening and closing, (3) Maximum opening during unilateral chewing, (4) Mean velocity during unilateral chewing, (5) Consistency of mandibular movement during unilateral chewing. Based on above results, new Mandibular Movement Index(M.M.I.) was formulated and compared to Helkimo's Clinical Dysfunction Index by measuring two indices before treatment and 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks after treatment. The conclusions were as follows: 1, The amounts of maximum opening and mean velocity during maximum opening and closing of TMD patients were less than those of normal persons(p<0.01). 2. The amounts of maximum opening and mean velocity during unilateral chewing of TMD patients were less than those of normal persons(p<0.05) (P<0.01). 3. Although TMD patients showed limited mandibular movements during unilateral chewing, the consistency of mandibular movements was better than that of normal persons(p<0.05). 4. Both mandibular movement index and Helkimo's Clinical Dysfunction Index, were useful in diagnosing TMD patients.
Background: We evaluated whether eye movements could reflect the efficacy of antiepileptic drugs in patients with epilepsy. Methods: Thirty patients with epilepsy of unknown cause as well as age- and sex-matched normal controls were enrolled in this study. We divided the patients into drug-controlled epilepsy (n = 22) and drug-resistant epilepsy (n = 8) groups according to their seizure controls. We analyzed the differences in the parameters of the eye movements in these two groups compared with normal controls using video-based electro-oculography. In addition, we investigated the differences in the cerebellar volumes of these two groups using whole-brain T1-weighted images. Results: The latency and accuracy of saccade in patients with epilepsy were significantly different from normal controls, but they were not different between patients with drug-controlled epilepsy and drug-resistant epilepsy. However, the gain of pursuit was significantly decreased in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy compared with normal controls (p = 0.0010), whereas it was not different between patients with drug-controlled epilepsy and normal controls (p = 0.9646). In addition, the patients with drug-resistant epilepsy had lower cerebellar volumes than normal controls (p = 0.0052), whereas the cerebellar volumes in patients with drug-controlled epilepsy were not different from normal controls (p = 0.5050). Conclusions: We demonstrated that pursuit eye movements could reflect the efficacy of antiepileptic drugs in patients with epilepsy, a finding that may be related to cerebellar dysfunction.

Background: Stroke patients require arm movement exercising for various stimulations in standing position for various stimulations rather than in a sitting position because they require integrated skillful movements, such as stretching, holding, and controlling. Objective: This study was conducted to provide foundational clinical data about lower limb global synkinesis in stroke patients using arm movements in a standing position. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: The subjects were divided into a control group (n = 10) and an experimental group (n = 10), and a pre-test was conducted to evaluate leg global synkinesis (GS) and balance. Intervention method is stretching an arm to hold a ball, repeating supination and pronation of the hand only while maintaining the arm extended as much as possible, repeating shoulder abduction and adduction while holding the pegboard. This was followed by a three-week intervention during which re-measurement was conducted in the same way as was done for the pre-test. Results: The control group showed a significant difference in GS and balance during plantar flexion (p<.05), and the experimental group showed a significant difference in GS and balance during all movements (p<.05, p<.01, respectively). There was a significant difference in GS and balance between the two groups during dorsiflexion (p<.05, p<.01, respectively). Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that human arm movements in a standing position can reduce GS in the affected limb, and balance can be improved by stimulating the surrounding tissues of the affected limb and changing them positively.
It is widely known that the Bugis people, originally from South Sulawesi, have been migrating to many places, including both the Indonesian and Malaysian sides of the borders today. The translocal and transnational movements of the Bugis people, especially to North Kalimantan of Indonesia and Sabah and Johor of Malaysia, have occurred in several waves, particularly during the 17th century, around 1965 and from 1980 to the present. The fall of the kingdom of Somba Opu in South Sulawesi and the rise Dutch colonial power have been the triggers for the early movement of the Bugis to both the Indonesian and Malaysian borders. This was followed by the second push of the Islamic rebellion in South Sulawesi, around 1965, creating another big wave of Bugis movement. The most recent one has been mainly due to economic reasons. These different phases of the movements, as well as the dynamic interplay of various aspects, such as citizenship, ethnic, and sub-ethnic groupings, practicing of cultural traditions and keeping the language, to mention a few, have contributed to the process of the construction of the multiple identities of the Bugis. Indeed, the Bugis people are no longer identified or identify themselves as a single group, but rather have fluid and contesting identities. This paper will discuss three main issues: the history of the translocal and transnational movements of the Bugis to North Kalimantan, Sabah and Johor; the process of adaptation to these new places; and the construction of Bugis identities.
Clearance movements of engine piston are very related to the piston impact to the engine block as well as many tribological problems. Some of the major parameters that influence these kinds of performances are piston profiles, piston offsets and clearance magnitudes. In our study, computational investigation is performed about the piston movements in the clearance between piston and cylinder liner by changing the skirt profiles and piston offsets. Our results show that curved profile and more offset magnitude to thrust side have better performance that has low side impact during the engine cycle.
An engineer designing a tunnel in an urban area should be to predict the magnitude and distribution of ground movements which are important to Investigate the potential damage to the existing structures around tunnel. The present study examines available theories and emprical equations, and tries to investigate quantativily ground movements around tunnel with tunnel progressing. Approcaches to the problem of ground movements associated with twin tunnel was and elasto - plastic finite element method. Typical section in Seoul Subway were selected in numerical study. The analysis and study was done with respect. to surface, subsurface and crown settlements with varying ground conditions, tunnel geommetry and construction conditions.
GPS has become an established technique in structural health monitoring. This paper presents the application of an on-line GPS RTK system on the Zhujiang Huangpu Bridge (China) for monitoring bridge deck and towers movements. In this study, both the form and functions of movements of the deck and towers of the bridge under affecting loads were monitored in lateral, longitudinal and vertical directions. Such movements were described in time and frequency domains by determining the trend, torsion, periodical of the series using probability density function (PDF). The results of the time series GPS data are practical and useful to bridge health monitoring.

An examination is made of container movements, air cargo/passengers and telecommunications traffic in Northeast Asia during 1995. A drawback to studying flows between major cities is that information on telecommunications traffic is only available between countries. Also container traffic data are restricted to individual ports. Consequently, most attention is paid to movements of passenger aircraft between major cities derived from analysing timetables, particularly as they can be related to regional development concepts applied in Europe such as the 'blue banana' and 'bunches of grapes' concepts. A 'peas in a pod' may be a more appropriate movements are examined again in 1998 to gauge the impact of the Asian crisis.
This study takes a close examination of the Saturday protest movement in Korea and explores how the politics by social movements challenges the extant theorization of democratization. The paper begins with a brief description of the presidential scandal, the eruption of massive protests, and its impact on formal politics. By situating the Korean case in a comparative theoretical discussion, it engages with important debates in the latest scholarship of democracy that complicate given assumptions and conceptualization. The paper closes with theoretical suggestions of how the Korean drama of protest movements contributes to altering the imagination of democratic politics, both conceptually and substantively.
Italian Rationalism held a specific position in the Modern Movements of Architecture, due to the fact that Italian Rationalism could not totally escape from the classical tradition of Italy. Until the seventies, Italian Rationalism had been criticized for having made no contribution to the progressive aspects of the Modern Movements owing to the very keeping of tradition. After the seventies, however, there emerged a movement which tries to reinterprete the Modern Movements of Architecture in relation to tradition and under this new situation, Italian Rationalism is believed to have a historical possibility of unifying tradition with modernity. This study is to show how Italian Rationalism struggled with the issue of tradition, why Italian Rationalism was under-evaluated and which historic lesson we can learn from it in the contemporary days of the revivalistic Post-Modernism.
