This paper deals with the design of a brushless synchronous motor with an inverter integrated rotor instead of a brush and a slip ring. It is designed for 80kW output power and compared with an induction motor and a permanent magnet synchronous motor of the same specifications. Brushless synchronous motor, induction motor and permanent magnet synchronous motor have the same amount of magnet flux density at an air gap. As a result, the brushless synchronous motor can be reduced volume of motor and power losses comparing to the induction motor.
In this study, we suggested an integrated humidification system for a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) as an efficient method of humidification under the various driving condition of the fuel cell vehicle and system. It is improving air humidification system combined the existing membrane humidifier and water injection. As a result, we verified it through experiments and the vehicle test and could get a result of improvement of humidification performance. The results show that an integrated humidification system is a useful method for FCEV applications.
An integrated charger is used for bi-directional power conversion between an electric vehicle and a power grid. The proposed integrated charger works in a way that motor windings are utilized as filter inductances for charging/discharging of batteries in addition to the original purpose of motor drives. After a mathematical model of the integrated charger based on an dual winding induction machine (DWIM) is discussed, a current control method is designed for grid connection. The effectiveness of the proposed method is examined with simulation results.
This paper presents a current mode integrated control technique (CM-ICT) using a modified voltage space vector modulation (MSVM) for Z-source inverter (ZSI) fed induction motor drives. MSVM provides a better DC voltage boost in the dc-link, a wide range of AC output voltage controllability and a better line harmonic profile. In a voltage mode ICT (VM-ICT), the outer voltage feedback loop alone is designed and it enforces the desired line voltage to the motor drive. An integrated control technique (ICT), with an inner current feedback loop is proposed in this paper for the purpose of line current limiting and soft operation of the drive. The current command generated by the PI controller and limiter in the outer voltage feedback loop, is compared with the actual line current, and the error is processed through the PI controller and a limiter. This limiter ensures that, the voltage control signal to the Z-source inverter is constrained to a safe level. The rise and fall of the control signal voltage are made to be gradual, so as to protect the induction motor drive and the Z-source inverter from transients. The single stage controller arrangement of the proposed CM-ICT offers easier compensation. Analysis, Matlab/Simulink simulations, and experimental results have been presented to validate the proposed technique.
An autofilter is a device that removes impurities contained in heavy fuel oil used in diesel engines of ships or power plants, and also automatically removes impurities accumulated in the filter through a reverse washing function. The reducer-integrated motor serves to rotate the filter at low speed to enable reverse automatic cleaning in the autofilter device. To achieve a low speed of 0.65 to 0.75 rpm in a reducer-integrated motor, a small motor that can operate at 97rpm at a rated voltage of 110 V and 112.5 rpm at 220 V is required. Additionally, a large gear ratio of 1/150 is required. To ensure the durability and reliability of these reducers, the strength of the gear must be evaluated at the design stage. In general, there is a limit to evaluating the stress and strain state according to the vibration characteristics acting on each gear in the driving state of the reducer through quasi-static analysis. Therefore, in this study, the operation characteristics of the auto filter's reducer-integrated motor were first analyzed using the rigid body dynamics analysis method. Then, this rigid body dynamics analysis model was extended to a flexible multibody dynamics analysis model to analyze the stress and strain states acting on each gear and evaluate the design feasibility of the gear.
Hybrid electric vehicles have applied electric parts for saving fuel consumption and reducing levels of environmental pollution. Electrification of automobiles is indispensable for entering into global market because of enhanced environment restriction. ISG (Integrated Starter & Generator) system is one of main electric parts and can improve fuel efficiency more than other components by using Idle Stop & Go function and regenerative braking system. However, if ISG motor and inverter work under the continuously high load condition, it will make them the decrease of performance and durability. So the ISG motor and inverter need to properly design the cooling system of them. In this study, we suggested the enhancement points by modifying the thermal design of ISG motor and then confirmed the improvement of the cooling performance.
In this paper, dual rotor disk configuration with a coreless stator is proposed for the Lorentz force type integrated motor bearing system. An experimental compensation for the effects of high order harmonics is performed using the digital controller of the experimental setup. The runout profile and rotor unbalance are also identified by the extended influence coefficient method. The experimental results confirm that this compensation method effectively attenuates the rotor vibration all over the operating range of rotational speed.
Automotive inverters may require current sensors for motor torque control, especially, in applications of hybrid electric vehicles or fuel cell vehicles. In this paper, to achieve a compact, integrated and low cost current sensor, a hall current sensor without magnetic core is introduced for integrating an automotive inverter. The compactness of the current sensor is possible by using integrated magnetic concentrators based on the Hall effect. Magnetic fields caused by three-phase currents are analyzed and a magnetic shield design is proposed for decoupling the cross-coupled field. It offers galvanic isolation, wide bandwidth (>100kHz), and accuracy(< 1%). Using 2D FEM analysis, its performance is demonstrated with design parameters at a U-shaped magnetic shield. The proposed coreless current sensor is tested with rated current to validate the linearity and accuracy.
In this paper, a motor control algorithm for performing a mode change without an integrated starter generator (ISG) is suggested for the automatic transmission-based hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). Dynamic models of the HEV powertrains such as engine, motor, and mode clutch are derived for the transient state during the mode change, and the HEV performance simulator is developed. Using the HEV performance bench tester, the characteristics of the mode clutch torque are measured and the motor torque required for the mode clutch synchronization is determined. Based on the dynamic models and the mode clutch torque, a motor torque control algorithm is presented for mode changes, and motor control without the ISG is investigated and compared with the existing ISG control.
The received signal of a mobile phone is normally sensed through two independent means which are the sound generation of a speaker and vibration generation of a vibration motor. As an improvement scheme to meet the consumer's demand on weight reduction and miniaturization of a mobile phone, the design and development of an integrated vibration and sound generating device are performed in this research. To this purpose, the optimal shapes of the voice coil. the permanent magnet and the vibration plate are designed, and the excitation force applied to the vibration system of the new device is estimated and verified through theoretical analyses, computer simulation, and experiments using an expanded model. In addition, vibration performance comparison of the device with the existing vibration motor is performed, and from the overall process, therefore, the method and procedure for the vibration performance analysis of the integrated vibration and sound generating device are established.
