This paper proposes an efficient two-stage fault prediction algorithm for fault detection and diagnosis of induction motors. In the first phase, we use a linear predictive coding (LPC) method to extract fault patterns. In the second phase, we use a dynamic time warping (DTW) method to match fault patterns. Experiment results using eight vibration data, which were collected from an induction motor of normal fault states with sampling frequency of 8 kHz and sampling time of 2.2 second, showed that our proposed fault prediction algorithm provides about 45% better accuracy than a conventional fault diagnosis algorithm. In addition, we implemented and tested the proposed fault prediction algorithm on a testbed system including TI's TMS320F2812 DSP that we developed.

Recently, the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor as low noise, high speed and high thrust force transportation system has been proposed but this motor causes an increase of material cost because of its characteristic arranging the armature on the full length of transportation lines when this system is applied to the long distance transportation system. Therefore, we suggested discontinuous arrangement method of the armature to solve this problem. However, Detent force which causes thrust force ripple generating noise, vibration and decline of performance is generated when a mover pass between the armatures. Thus, in this paper, we examined characteristic of detent force to reduce the end edge effect according to the end edge teeth's height and auxiliary teeth and suggested the shape that can the most reduce the detent force.

The operating sound radiated from a laser printer includes tonal noise components caused by the rotating mechanical parts such as gear, shaft, motor, fan, etc. The negative effects of the tonal noise components need to be considered in the process of developing a sound quality index for the quantitative evaluation of the emotional satisfaction in terms of psycho-acoustics. However, in a previous paper, it was confirmed that the Aures tonality did not have enough correlation with the results of jury evaluation. The sound quality index based on loudness, articulation index, fluctuation strength has a little problem in considering the effects of rotating mechanical parts on the sound quality. In this paper, to solve the tonality evaluation problem, the calculation algorithm of Aures tonality was investigated in detail to find the cause of decreasing the correlation. The new tonality evaluation model was proposed by modifying and optimizing the masking effect, loudness ratio, and shape of weighting curve based on the basic algorithm of Aures tonality, and applied to two kinds of operating sound groups in order to verify the usefulness of proposed model. As a result, it is confirmed that the proposed tonality evaluation model has enough correlation and usefulness for expressing the tonalness in the operating sounds of laser printers. In the following paper, this results will be used to model the sound quality index as the input data by using the classification algorithm.

The noise in a vehicle is an important factor for customers purchasing a car. Particularly, reduction of the noise that is generated from HVAC(heating, ventilation and air conditioning) is very important since it has considerable effects on interior noise. In general, identification of noise source is crucial to reduce noise level. The complex acoustic intensity method is widely used to obtain the accurate measurement and identification of noise source. Therefore, in the previous study, noise source of HVAC was identified through experimental approach using the complex acoustic intensity method. In this study, we are intended to confirm reduced level of noise by comparing the result between before and after modification of cam curve that is based on identified noise source of HVAC. It is found out that noise source of HVAC are motor and cam area using the complex acoustic intensity method in the previous study. We performed experiments to compare noise level between before and after modification of cam curve. Especially, it can be seen that complex acoustic intensity method using both active and reactive intensity is vital in devising a strategy for comparison to noise level. Also, the vector flow of acoustic intensity was investigated to identify sound intensity distributions and energy flow in the near field of HVAC.
We studied the effects of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, donepezil and galantamine, and an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor blocker, memantine, on sleep-wake architecture in rats. Screw electrodes were chronically implanted into the frontal and parietal cortex for the electroencephalography (EEG). EEG was recorded with a bio-potential amplifier for 8 h from 09:30 to 17:30. Vibration was recorded to monitor animal activity with a vibration measuring device. Sleep-wake states such as wake (W), slow-wave sleep (S) and paradoxical or rapid eye movement sleep (P), were scored every 10 sec by an experimenter. We measured mean episode duration and number of episode to determine which factor sleep disturbance was attributed to. Donepezil and memantine showed a significant increase in total W duration and decreases in total S and P duration and delta activity. Memantine showed increases in sleep latency and motor activity. Changes of S and P duration in memantine were attributed from changes of mean episode duration. Galantamine had little effect on sleep architecture. From these results, it is showed that galantamine may be an anti-dementia drug that does not cause sleep disturbances and memantine may be a drug that causes severe sleep disturbance.

In this paper, we proposed a haptic navigation system which used the tactile data for the user guides of the mobile robot to the reference point via tele-operation in unknown blind environment. This navigation system can enable a mobile robot to avoid obstacles and move to the reference point, according to the direction provided by the device guides through a haptic device consisting of a vibration motor in a blind environment. There are a great deal of obstacles in real environments, and so mobile robots can avoid obstacles by recognizing the exact position of each obstacle through the superposition of an ultrasonic sensor. The navigation system determines the direction of obstacle avoidance through an avoidance algorithm that uses virtual impedance, and lets users know the position of obstacles and the direction of the avoidance through the haptic device consisting of 5 vibration motors. By letting users know intuitionally, it lets the mobile robot precisely reach the reference point in unknown blind environment. This haptic device can implement a haptic navigation system through the tactile sensor data.

In this study, the finite element analysis was carried out to investigate dynamic characteristics of the AGF(Active Gurney Flap) which is under development for reducing vibration and noise of the helicopter rotor system. The Gurney flap is a kind of small flat plate, mounted normal to the lower surface of the airfoil near to the trailing edge. An electric motor, L-shaped linkages and flap parts were integrated into a rotor bade, and 3~5/rev control was given to the AGF to reduce the vibration in the fixed frame. Thus, an explicit time integration method was adopted to investigate the dynamic response of the AGF with considering both centrifugal force due to the rotor rotation and active control input, and it can be seen that the vertical displacement of the AGF was satisfied to meet the design requirement.

Hyundai Motor Group(HMG) carried out experimental investigation of sunroof buffeting phenomena on a simplified car model called Hyundai simplified model(HSM). HMG invited participation from commercial CFD vendors to perform numerical investigation of sunroof buffeting for HSM model with a goal to determine whether CFD can predict sunroof buffeting behavior to sufficient accuracy. ANSYS Korea participated in this investigation and performed numerical simulations of sunroof buffeting for HSM using ANSYS fluent, the general purpose CFD code. First, a flow field validation is performed using closed sunroof HSM model for 60 km/h wind speed. The velocity profiles at three locations on the top surface of HSM model are predicted and compared with experimental measurement. Then, numerical simulations for buffeting are performed over range of wind speeds, using advanced scale resolving turbulence model in the form of detached eddy simulation (DES). Buffeting frequency and buffeting level are predicted in simulation and compared with experimental measurement. With reference to comparison between experimental measurements with CFD predictions of buffeting frequency and level, conclusion are drawn about predictive capabilities of CFD for real vehicle development.

The printer noise consists of the noise of the various components and parts such as motor, fan and solenoid. And the human's printing sound recognition shows various aspects when the printer starts to print papers because the components operate at the same time. Especially, printers are usually installed in the quiet office room. Therefore the printing noise is related to its competitiveness in the market. The importance of the printer sound qualities is increasing and it is necessary to develop the sound quality evaluation system, so it is a key point to identify the noise source of the printer and develop the sound quality index to each component. By using this evaluation system, it is possible to evaluate the sound quality of a prototype printer compared to the already existing one. In this paper, the printer sound quality evaluation system was developed by the following steps. Firstly, the signal processing method was applied to the recorded printing sound to identity and split the noise of components. Secondly, the MLR(multiple linear regression) method and the psychoacoustics were used to develop the sound quality index. Finally, the improvement of the printer sound quality is possible by using the result of the MLR and the path analysis. The output of this research will be applied to the development of a new printer.
Numerical methods for calculating both the natural frequencies and buckling loads of columns with the multiple elastic springs are developed. In order to derive the governing equations of such columns, each elastic spring is modeled as a discrete elastic foundation with the finite longitudinal length. By using this model, the differential equations governing both the free vibrations and buckled shapes, respectively, of such columns are derided. These differential equations are solved numerically. The Runge- Kutta method is used to integrate the differential equations, and the determinant search method combined with Regula-Falsi method is used to determine the eingenvalues. namely natural frequencies and buckling loads. In the numerical examples, the clamped-clamped. clamped-hinged, hinged-clamped and hinged-hinged end constraints are considered. Extensive numerical results including the frequency parameters, mode shapes of free vibrations and buckling load parameters are presented in the non-dimensional forms.
