Performance Improvement Design and Characteristics Analysis of SRM for EPS Application (EPS 적용을 위한 SRM의 효율향상 설계 및 특성)

  • This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of an SRM drive for EPS application. A rack mounted EPS system is considered in this paper. In the unrestricted design conditions, motor parameters are determined for sufficient torque and speed with some restrictions. For the smooth torque generation and simple circuit of power system, 12/8 motor drive is considered. With FEM and magnetic circuit analysis, redesigned motor is simulated to meet the requirement of specifications. Effectiveness of the suggested SRM drive for EPS application is verified by redesigned motor drive tests.

  • For high performance induction motor drives such as mill drives, elevator, spindle drive, NC and so on, smart speed controls is usually required, that requires a precise current control. This paper is proposes design of fuzzy controller which makes use of the output voltage of the space vector PWM inverter. Also, proposes the performance fuzzy controller for high performance vector control of induction motor drive system. The performance of a fuzzy controller is compared with that of an PI controller in an internal loop. The validity of the proposed technique is confirmed by simulation results for induction motor drive system.

  • The direct drive motor is directly coupled by load. So, it is directly affected by load and disturbances. To control the direct drive motor, a robust controller is need. The main feature of variable structure system is that system trajectories are robust and insensitive to parameter variations and disturbances in the sliding mode. In this paper, adaptive variable structure controller, is used for the BLDD SM(Brushless Direct Drive Servo Motor) control. The chattering problem is reduced by using the saturation function.

  • This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of a SRM drive for EPS application. A rack mounted EPS system is considered in this paper. A conventional driving room space and mechanical structure are suggested in design stage. In the restricted design conditions, motor parameters are determined for sufficient torque and speed. For the smooth torque generation and simple circuit of power system, 12/8 motor drive is considered. With FEM and magnetic circuit analysis, designed motor is simulated to meet the requirement of specifications. Effectiveness of the suggested SRM drive for EPS application is verified by the manufactured prototype motor drive tests.

  • In this paper proposes a very simple method to estimate the rotor position of a switched reluctance motor. By on-line estimating the self-inductance of the motor, the rotor position of the SR motor is obtained, and a closed-loop drive system can be achieved. Proposed methods can easy implement to application with sensorless SR motor drive system. Speed 2000rpm SR motor simulation executed with self inductance estimation and result represented. Simulation result verified the rotor position using the proposed self-inductance estimation method.

  • A sensorless control scheme for the switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive at speed control is presented in this paper. In this paper proposes a very simple method to estimate the rotor position of a switched reluctance motor.   • This paper aims to compare the performance of three phase induction motor drives using Five Leg Inverter (FLI) and Three Leg Inverter (TLI) configurations. An Indirect Field Oriented Control (IFOC) method using a TLI is well established and incorporated for high performance speed drives in various industries. The FLI dual motor drive system on the other hand shows good workability in the independent control of two induction motor drives simultaneously. In this experiment, the IFOC method is utilized for both drive systems, and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) is used to generate pulses for both inverters. For the FLI, the Double Zero Sequence (DZS) Injection technique is used to generate the modulation signal. The complete experiment setup is done by using a DSpace 1103 controller board. The individual motor performances are analyzed using similar schemes, equipment setups and controller parameter values. The results show similar speed performance response capability between the single motor operation using a TLI system and the two motor operation using a FLI system based on the variable speed range either in forward or reverse operation. They also show similar load rejection abilities. However, the single motor with a TLI has a better power quality aspect such as ripple current and total harmonics distortion (THD).

  • In the case of 4 wheel drive (4-WD) type car, power switching occurs to 4-WD by operating lever or switch that operates power switching device attached in transfer case which can operate motor by electric signal. So if the RPM of motor is high, power switching will not exactly occur and can cause damage to gear in transfer case according to circumstances. So in this study, we applied 2 level of planet gear type motor spindle of motor drive part of a power train. And conducted decelerating to increase torque to switch power safe and accurately. Also, we researched efficiency of gear by designing reduction gear ratio and gear type and by calculating contact stress and bending strength. Based on researched content, we made drive head of power switching device and a reduction module which uses type that uses motor spindle as sun gear and ring gear as cover.

  • Demand for high fuel efficiency and smart features of the vehicles, research has been intensified. Hence, research and development on electric power steering (EPS) system to replace the existing hydraulic steering system has been actively conducted. Permanent magnet motors are widely used in automotive applications due to their high power density and high efficiency. However, increasing price and limited production of rare-earth permanent magnets has recently prompted the auto parts makers to substitute permanent magnet motors by non- or less rare earth magnet motors. Switched reluctance motors SRMs), known as typical non-rare earth motors have simple structure, low manufacturing cost, and high reliability. This paper discusses design, modeling, simulation, and experimental verification of a prototype SRM drive for electric power steering system.

  • In the two-mass motor drive system driving a load through a flexible shaft or transmission system, a shaft torsional vibration is often generated. The overshoot of the motor drive system easily causes vibration. In this case I-PD controller has been generally used in speed control, because of the simplicity of structure. This paper using an analytical pole assignment design, proposes the overshoot formulas, and the settling time formula. The objective of this paper is to provide a design method of I-PD controller by using overshoot formulas, and settling time formula. The simulation results show that we can design the controller with desired overshoot and settling time.
