  • In this work, a new non-photolithographic micro-fabrication technique is presented. The motivation of this work is to overcome the demerits of the most commonly used photolithographic techniques. The micro-fabrication technique presented in this work is a two-step process which consists of mechanical scribing followed by chemical etching. This method has many advantages over other micro-fabrication techniques since it is simple, cost-effective, rapid, and flexible. Also, the technique can be used to obtain a metal structure which has sub-micrometer width patterns. In this paper, the concept of this method and its application to microsystem technology are described.

  • The main motivation of this research is to develop an intelligent control strategy for Activated Sludge Process(ASP). ASP is a complex and nonlinear dynamic system because of the characteristic of a wastewater, the change of an influent flow rate, weather conditions, and etc. The mathematical model of ASP also includes uncertainties which are ignored or not considered by process engineer or controller designer. The ASP is generally controlled by a PID controller that consists of fixed proportional, integral, and derivative gain values. The PID gains can be adjusted by the expert in the ASP. The ASP model based on Matlab$^{(R)}$5.3/Simulink$^{(R)}$3.0 is developed in this paper. Various control methods are applied to the ASP model and the control results are disscussed. Three control methods are designed and tested: conventional PID controller, fuzzy logic control approach to modify setpoints, and fuzzy-PID control method.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore the adaptation process of correctional officers' job stress. Methods: Participants collected were fourteen officers who had experienced the adaptation process of job stress. Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews until the point of theoretical saturation from May to August, 2017. Transcribed interview contents were analyzed using Corbin and Strauss' grounded theory method. Results: A total of 98 concepts, 27 subcategories, and 10 categories were identified through the open coding. As a result of axial coding based on the paradigm model, the job stress adaptation process centering phenomenon of correctional officers was revealed as 'repeat-mark hardening', and the core category was extracted as 'endurance in hardening' consisting of a three-step process: enduring, understanding prisoner management procedures, and rebuilding. The rebuilding was considered as the key phase to escape the repeat-mark hardening and the participants utilized various strategies such as finding fun elsewhere, restoring confidence, accepting values of the prison officer in this phase. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the adaptation process of correctional officers' job stress can be a process that endurance the hardening. Therefore, it is necessary to develop systematic practical education and vocational motivation programs.

  • The current study assumes that the net effect of rewards on creativity is determined by interactions of motivational and cognitive properties conveyed by rewards when rewards are actually delivered. To test this hypothesis, experimental research was manipulated with 81 fourth-grade elementary students in Seoul, Korea, consisted of two sessions separated by a one-week interval. Data analyses pointed out that the changes of the creativity performance cannot be explained by the motivational changes and, in general, supported the hypothesis proposed in this study.

  • The purpose of this paper was to analyze the kinds and roles of multimedia materials in E-works that are distributed with elementary textbooks (3~6 grade) of the 2009 revised science curriculum. Five criteria (forms, goals, key competencies, inquiry process, running time) were set for this. The sample of the paper was the 784 multimedia materials in E-works of elementary science textbooks (3~6 grade) of the 2009 revised science curriculum. The results of the multimedia materials analysis are as follows: The result of the material forms of multimedia is that the form of highest ratio is text type. But all forms were used evenly in E-work. 56.2% of the multimedia materials are for "inquiry" in the goal criteria, and 65.0% of the multimedia materials are related to "science inquiry" in the key competencies criteria. Two facts indicate many multimedia is used to develop students' inquiry ability. However the ratio of multimedia materials in motivation step is higher than that in inquiry activity step. In analysis of running time, the ratio of "under 5 min" multimedia materials is the highest. But, the ratio of 5~10 min multimedia materials in inquiry part is higher than that in motivation part in The Chi-square test between "running time" and "parts" that consist of motivation part and inquiry part. Through the analysis of module and the categorizing the multimedia materials, we found that the multimedia materials play eleven roles in E-works that are distributed with elementary textbooks.

  • This study investigates the potential components for academic research collaboration, and the factors that make it possible to achieve higher academic productivity. The components include collaboration factors and a collaboration model. We use two major collaboration factors to develop a framework for understanding the mechanisms that influence academic research collaborations: motivational factors and mediating factors. Motivational factors include self-motivation and trust whereas mediating factors are collaboration orientation and peer support. We analyze the effect for use of e-collaboration with research performance, reward, and satisfaction with e-research output. A survey of academicians was conducted, and by using the factor analysis and the structural equation model with SPSS 20 AMOS, we illustrate the possible influence of these factors on research performance and satisfaction. We discovered that both motivational and mediating factors play important roles on the success of academic research. This study offers several implications for academicians. We develop a parsimonious research model, which is related to e-collaboration in academic research. This unique model offers academicians to achieve good publication output from the research team. The motivational factor, self-motivation and trust, are important factors which has received positive impact of mediating factor collaboration orientation and peer support. Our research sheds light on the crucial factors for use of e-collaboration which offer the ultimate effect on performance and satisfaction with e-research output. Satisfaction motivates people to work more and more on the field of their interest, thereby influencing the performance of academicians. Rewards should be distributed according to performance of the individual, which will motivate the person to become more enthusiastic for his work of interest. Our evidence suggests that in understating the collaborative process, one must account for the context in which the collaboration occurs, the motivation of the collaborators, the scope and nature of the project, the roles and activities undertaken, and interpersonal processes such as trust. Researchers' motivations for engaging in collaboration were both instrumental and intrinsic.
