  • This paper presents an Image Motion Compensation (IMC) algorithm for the Korea's Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS)-1. An IMC algorithm is a priority component of image registration in Image Navigation and Registration (INR) system to locate and register radiometric image data. Due to various perturbations, a satellite has orbit and attitude errors with respect to a reference motion. These errors cause depointing of the imager aiming direction, and in consequence cause image distortions. To correct the depointing of the imager aiming direction, a compensation algorithm is designed by adapting different equations from those used for the GOES satellites. The capability of the algorithm is compared with that of existing algorithm applied to the GOES's INR system. The algorithm developed in this paper improves pointing accuracy by 40%, and efficiently compensates the depointings of the imager aiming direction.

  • A high compression rate is required to transmit video sequences over low bit rate networks such as low bit rate communication channels. When highly compressed videos are transmitted over mobile channels of high error rate, bitstreams corrupted by channel errors are not only difficult to be decoded, but also have fatal effects on the other parts of the bitstreams. In this Paper, we propose an error concealment algorithm for recovering the blocks which can not be decoded due to damaged bitstreams. The proposed error concealment algorithm recovers the damaged blocks using the information of adjacent blocks which are correctly decoded. In the proposed algorithm, the motion vector of the damaged block is estimated using the overlapped block motion compensation(OBMC) and block boundary matching(BBM) techniques. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits better performance in PSNR than existing error concealment methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an object-based stereo sequence compression technique using disparity-motion vector relationship. The proposed method uses the coherence of motion vectors and disparity vectors in the left and right Image sequences. After two motion vectors and one disparity vector ate computed using FBMA(Fixed Block Matching Algorithm), the disparity vector of the current stereoscopic pall is computed by disparity-motion vector relationship with vectors which are previously estimated. Moreover, a vector regularization technique is applied in order to obtain reliable vectors. For an object-based coding. the object is defined and coded in terms of layers of VOP such as in MPEG-4. we present a method using disparity and motion vector relationship for extending two-frame compensation into three-frame compensation method for prediction coding of B-VOP. The proposed algorithm shows a high performance when comparing with a conventional method.

  • In this paper, a disturbance feedforward compensator design technique is proposed for an active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion for attenuating disturbance responses. In the consideration of the requirements on the model accuracy in the model based compensator designs, an experimental feedforward compensator design based on adaptive estimation by means of the Multiple Filtered-x least mean square(MFXLMS) algorithm is proposed. The performance and the effectiveness of the proposed technique will be presented in the succeeding paper in which the proposed technique is applied to a 2-DOF active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion.

  • This paper proposes an efficient motion compensation algorithm for video sequences with brightness variations. In the proposed algorithm, the brightness variation parameters are estimated and local motions are compensated. To detect the frame with large brightness variations. we employ the frame classification based on the cross entropy between histograms of two successive frames, which can reduce the computational redundancy. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields a higher peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) than the conventional methods, with a low computational load, when the video scene contains large brightness changes.

  • This article deals with the problem of designing a robust algorithm for the motion control of robot manipulator whose nonlinear dynamics contain various uncertainties. To ensure high performance of control system, a model-based feedforward compensation with continuous robust control has been developed. The control structure based on the deterministic approach consists of two parts : the nominal control law is first introduced to stabilize the system without uncertainties, then a robust nonlinear control law is adopted to compensate for both the resulting errors(or structured uncertainties) and unstructured uncertainties. The uncertainties assumed in this study are bounded by polynomials in the Euclidean norms of system states with known bounding coefficients. The presented control scheme is relatively simple as well as computationally efficient. With a feasible class of desired trajectories, the proposed control law provides sufficient criteria which guarantee that all possible responses of the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded in the presence of uncertainties. Therefore, the control algorithm proposed is shown to be robust with respect to the involved uncertainties.

  • In this research, we propose a field mismatch compensation method for interlaced scan image and a image restoration technique for removing motion blur. In order to compensate field mismatch, the edge classification-based linear interpolation technique and the method using the object-based motion compensation are described. We also propose an edge estimation method and an motion-based image segmentation algorithm. For removing motion blur, we adopt an adaptive iterative image restoration method using the motion-based segmentation result to improve the quality of restored image.

  • It is assumed in the block matching algorithm(BMA) that all the pels in a block have a same motion vector. Then, the motion vector of a block in the BMA is matched to only one or none of the objects in the worst case if objects in a block have different motion vectors. This is apparent in the motion estimation using the fast BMA which has the effect of reducing the computation time and hardware complexity, compared to the full search BMA. Although the motion vector in the motion estimation using small block size is accurate, the increased number of bits is required to represent motion vectors. In this paper, new motion vector segmentation with less additional information and hardware complexity than the conventional method is proposed. In the proposed method, a motion vector is derived from the block for motion vector segmentation and another motion vector is extracted from four neighboring blocks to consiture a motion vector pair. For the accurate motion vector of each subblock, the motion vector is assigned to each subblock by mean squared error measure. And the overlapped motion compensation using window is also applied to reduce displaced frame difference.

  • Motion Estimation/compensation(ME/MC) is one of the efficient interframe ceding techniques for its ability to reduce the high redundancy between successive frames of an image sequence. Calculating the blocking matching takes most of the encoding time. In this paper a new fast block matching algorithm(BMA) is developed for motion estimation and for reduction of the computation time to search motion vectors. The feature of the new algorithm comes from the center-biased checking concept and the trend of pixel movements. At first, Motion Vector(MV) is searched in ${\pm}$1 of search area and then the motion estimation is exploited in the rest block. The ASP and MSE of the proposed search algorithm show good performance.

  • Recently, mobile video communication is getting more and more popular. Visual quality and computational complexity are primary factors affecting performance of video communication. Frame rate up-conversion (FRC) is necessary for achieving high visual quality in mobile projection displays. In this paper, a FRC method using motion compensation based on block matching algorithm (BMA) with adaptive block size is proposed. In order to improve the accuracy of the estimated motion vectors, the motion vector refinement technique is proposed. Experiment results indicate that the proposed technique exhibits better performance with lower hardware complexity compared to the conventional methods.
