DMSO-Oxalyl Chloride에 의한 당의 산화 (DMSO-Oxalyl Chloride for the Oxidation of Carbohydrates)

  • DMSO-oxalyl chloride at low temperature in methylene chloride reacted with isolated secondary hydroxyl groups in some monosaccharides to give alkoxysulfonium salts, convertible to carbonyls in high yields upon addition of triethylamine. And 1, 2:5, 6-di-O-isopropylidene-.alpha.- D-allofuranose which is the key intermediate in the synthesis of 3-O-acetyl-5-O-benzoyl- 2-deoxy-2- fluoro-D-arabinofuranosyl bromide, was also obtained by oxidizing 1, 2:5, 6-di-O-isopropylidene-.alpha.- D-glucofuranose with the oxidizing reagent, followed by reduction with sodium borohydride.

  • The chemistry of secondary products from Acanthopanax species and their pharmacological activities were reviewed. A nitrogenous compound, a furan compound, a quinoid, benzoids, coumarins, phenylpropanoids, lignans, flavonoids, terpenoids, phytosterols, polyacetylenes, a pyrimidine, cyclitols, monosaccharides and an aliphatic alcohol have been isolated from Acanthopanax species and have been shown to have various levels of activities such as anti-bacterial, anti-cancer, anti-gout, anti-hepatitis, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-inflammatory, anti-leishmanicidic, anti-oxidant, anti-pyretic, anti-xanthine oxidase, choleretic, hemostatic, hypocholesterolemic, immunostimulatory and radioprotectant effects, etc.

Effects of Mono- and Polysaccharides on In Vitro Fertility of Boar Spermatozoa

  • This study was conducted to examine the effect of several saccharides on the induction of capacitation and acrosome reaction (AR) and to examine the effects of mono and polysaccharides on the penetration activity of boar spermatozoa. Spermatozoa were inseminated in medium with fucose, galactose and mannose as monosaccharide, and fucoicIan. galactan and marman as polysaccharide. The penetration rates were significantly (p<0.05) lower in medium with galactose (40.6%), mannose (38.1%), fucose (41.6%) and fucoidan (36.6%) compared with control (56.7%). The rates of AR were increased (40.7 to 59.8%) by the preincubation periods prolonged from 0 to 4 hr (p<0.05). Similar tendencies were observed in AR when spermatozoa were treated with monosaccharides, but not significantly differ among the groups treated with different time of preincubation with some exception of galactose. When spermatozoa were treated with polysaccharides, the rates of AR were significantly (p<0.05) increased by preincubation time prolonged from 0 to 4 hr with an exception of fucoidan. In conclusion, the present study suggests that penetration rate of spermatozoa is higher in presence of polysaccharides than monosaccharides. Also, it may resume that the comparing to control, the all saccharides (L-fucose, D-galactose, D-mannose, fucoidan. galactan and mannan)-treated groups slightly increase the AR pattern as preincubation time prolonged.

Characterization of MABIK Microalgae with Biotechnological Potentials

  • This article emphasized the physiological characteristics of the selected marine microalgal strains obtained from the culture collection of the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea (MABIK). Therefore, in this study, 13 different marine microalgal strains belonging to the phylum Chlorophyta were analyzed for the composition of fatty acids, elements, photosynthetic pigments, and monosaccharides, as well as the lipid and protein contents. The results presented that the primary fatty acids were palmitic (C16:0), palmitoleic (C16:1 n-7), stearic (C18:0), oleic (C18:1 n-9), linoleic (C18:2 n-6), and α-linolenic (ALA, C18:3 n-3) acid in the evaluated microalgae. The lipid contents of heterotrophically grown strains ranged from 15.1% to 20.4%. The calorific values of the strains were between 17.4 MJ kg-1 and 21.3 MJ kg-1. The major monosaccharides were galactose, glucose, and mannose, while the primary photosynthetic pigments were chlorophyll-a (Chla), chlorophyll-b (Chlb), and lutein, respectively. Based on the results, the microalgal strains showed high potentials in the use of microalgae-based technologies to produce biochemicals, food, and renewable fuels as they are rich in sustainable sources of high-value bio-compounds, such as antioxidants, carbohydrates, and fatty acids.

Detoxification of Eucheuma spinosum Hydrolysates with Activated Carbon for Ethanol Production by the Salt-Tolerant Yeast Candida tropicalis

  • The objective of this study was to optimize the slurry contents and salt concentrations for ethanol production from hydrolysates of the seaweed Eucheuma spinosum. A monosaccharide concentration of 44.2 g/l as 49.6% conversion of total carbohydrate of 89.1 g/l was obtained from 120 g dw/l seaweed slurry. Monosaccharides from E. spinosum slurry were obtained by thermal acid hydrolysis and enzymatic hydrolysis. Addition of activated carbon at 2.5% (w/v) and the adsorption time of 2 min were used in subsequent adsorption treatments to prevent the inhibitory effect of HMF. The adsorption surface area of the activated carbon powder was 1,400-1,600 m2/g and showed selectivity to 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) from monosaccharides. Candida tropicalis KCTC 7212 was cultured in yeast extract, peptone, glucose, and high-salt medium, and exposed to 80, 90, 100, and 110 practical salinity unit (psu) salt concentrations in the lysates. The 100 psu salt concentration showed maximum cell growth and ethanol production. The ethanol fermentations with activated carbon treatment and use of C. tropicalis acclimated to a high salt concentration of 100 psu produced 17.9 g/l of ethanol with a yield (YEtOH) of 0.40 from E. spinosum seaweed.

단당류와 이당류를 환원제로 합성한 은 나노입자의 Resazurin 산화환원반응 메커니즘 (Resazurin Redox Reaction Mechanism Using Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized with Monosaccharides and Disaccharides)

  • 나노입자는 많은 화학합성에서 중요한 촉매역할을 한다. 촉매로 이용되는 나노입자를 합성할 때 colloidal synthesis를 많이 활용하고 있다. Colloidal synthesis를 이용해 나노입자를 합성할 경우 환원제, capping agent, shape directing agent 등이 촉매에 surface poisoning을 일으켜 촉매의 특성이 낮아질 수 있으며 합성 및 분리 과정 중 유해폐기물의 발생한다. Colloidal synthesis에서 사용되는 첨가제들의 양을 줄여 합성할 수 있는 새로운 나노입자를 합성법을 개발하여 은나노입자를 합성하였다. 결정화 기술을 이용하여 환원제, capping agent의 양을 줄일 수 있고 더욱이 합성된 나노입자 표면의 흡착되는 물질의 양을 줄여 surface poisoning을 낮출 수 있었다. 환원제로는 단당류와 이당류를 이용하여 surface poisoning이 거의 없는 은 나노입자는 resazurin의 산화환원 반응의 촉매로 이용할 수 있어 은 나노입자를 이용한 촉매 반응의 메커니즘을 분석하였다.

Helicobacter pylori의 생육에 영향을 미치는 성분과 식품첨가물에 관한 연구 (Studies on Food Components and Food Additives Affecting the Growth Patterns of Helicobacter pylori)

  • The purpose of this study was to choose prinicipal food components contained in diet foods and food additives used for manufacturing processed foods and elucidate their in vivo effects on the growth pattern of Helicobacter pylori. To do this the antibacterial effects of various sources of carbon nitrogen and mineral as an effect agent on Helicobacter pylori were first assessed based upon bacterial growth degree. results show that the source of carbon tested had different effects on bacterial growth of Helicobacter pylori. It was revealed that a promotional effect of monosaccharides resulted in enhanced growth of Helicobacter pylori compared with disaccharides and polysacchrides, in particular glucose was observed to be most effective in growth of Helicobacter pylori among monosaccharides teste whereas mannose to hinder the growth of Helicobacter pylori. Polyols such as sorbitol mannitol maltitol and xylitol was however observed to show no promotion or suppression effect on growth of Helicobacter pylori. Apart from these the sources of amino acid and inorganic nitrogen were chosen and tested to assess the promotion or suppression effect of nitrogen sources on growth of helicobacter pylori. It was found that amino acid such as lysine showed its promotion effect on the growth of Helicobacter pylori while arginine (NH4)2SO4 and NH4Cl showed no effect on its growth. Ammoia and urea were however observed to have a positive effect on the growth of Helicobacter pylori. Among these effect agents lysine and methionine were revealed to show the most positive effect on growth of Helicobacter pylori. Minerals such as MgSO4 KH2PO4 and MgCl2 appered to exert their positive growth effects whereas CaCl2 and CaSo4 had a little effect. In addition FeSO4 FeCl2 and FeCl3 brought suppression on the growth of helicobacter pylori. In studies of the growth of Helicobacter pylori by food additives ascorbic acid showed extreme suppression on its growth,. Sodium nitrate and sodium chloride were also found to be of negative effect on the growth of Helicobacter pylori in rder of degree whereas tocopherol had nothing to do with microbial growth.

Aureobasidium pullulans가 생산하는 과당 및 포도당 전이효소에 의한 올리고당류의 생산 (O1igosaccharide Formation and Production of Transfructosylase and Transglucosylase by Aureobasidium pullulans)

  • Aureobasidium pullulans를 설탕 및 맥아당을 주 탄소원으로 하는 배지에서 각각 배양하면서 여러 종류의 올리고당류의 합성, 기질 이용성, 그리고 과당 전이효소 및 포도당전이효소의 생산특성에 대해 고찰하였다. 맥아당 배지에 비하여 설탕배지에서 초기 기질의 소비속도가 더 빨랐고 합성된 올리고당류는 두 경우 모두 최대 중합도 6까지의 올리고당류를 생산하였고, 이때 합성된 올라고당류의 최대 농도는 초기 설탕농도 100g/ㅣ 의 경우에서 58g/ㅣ 이었다 이들은 대부분 배양 중에 탄소원으로 다시 이용되었으나 중합도 6의 이소말토올리고당은 기질로 이용되지 않고 배양 말기까지 계속 잔존하였다. 설탕을 주 탄소원으로 하는 배지에서 맥아당은 과당전이효소 및 포도당전이효소의 생산을 촉진시켰으나, 맥아당을 주 탄소원으로 하는 배지에서 설탕은 포도당전이 효소의 생산에 전혀 영향을 미치지 않았다.

길항균 Bacillus subtillis CAP134의 대량생산을 위한 배양조건 (Cultural Conditions for Mass Production of Antagonistic Bacillus subtills CAP134)

  • Cultural conditions for mass production of the antagonistic bacteria, Bacillus subtills CAP134 against pathogens causing major airborne diseases to apple tree, effect of temperature, pH, carbon and nitrogen source in the culture broth were investigated. The bacterial growth was most vigorous when the temperature and pH of the culture broth was 30~$35^{\circ}$C, and 7, respectively. As for carbon source, dextrose was best followed in order by dextrose(monosaccharides)>sucrose(disaccharides)$\geq$saccharose(di-saccharides)>starch (polysaccharides). Among different sugars, bacterial growth was favored by in the order of brown, black and white sugars, indicating that the bacterial growth might be promoted by the minor elements presented as impurities in the less purified sugars. As for nitrogen source, organic forms were better to bacterial growth than inorganic forms, that is polypeptone was best followed in order by soy sauce, soybeen milk and inoganic nitrogens. Differences in bacterial growth among different forms of inorganic nitrogen were negligible.
