Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Levels in Garhwal Himalaya, India

  • Measurements of atmospheric $CO_2$ were made in the mountainous region of Srinagar-Garhwal, India (January to December 2006). Concentrations of $CO_2$ averaged $393\pm4.9$ ppm in 2006. Daily variations of $CO_2$ values showed minimum during the daytime (376.2 ppm) and peaked in the morning/evening (410.1 ppm). At monthly intervals, the $CO_2$ values varied from $367\pm11.14$ (May) to $425.2\pm13.54$ ppm (March). If divided on a seasonal basis, the values declined to minimum amounts in post-monsoon ($389.9\pm9.0$ ppm) and reached maximums during winter ($397.1\pm11.6$ ppm). Although phenology is significant in controlling $CO_2$ levels, short-term changes cannot be explained without the anthropogenic perturbations (e.g., vehicular pollution and forest fires). The $CO_2$ concentrations in Srinagar-Garhwal (393.4 ppm) were generally higher than those of other major monitoring locations around the world.

구조물의 6자유도 변위 측정을 위한 비주얼 서보잉 기반 양립형 구조 광 로봇 시스템 (Visual Servoing-Based Paired Structured Light Robot System for Estimation of 6-DOF Structural Displacement)

  • This study aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a visual servoing-based paired structured light (SL) robot for estimating structural displacement under various external loads. The former paired SL robot, which was proposed in the previous study, was composed of two screens facing with each other, each with one or two lasers and a camera. It was found that the paired SL robot could estimate the translational and rotational displacement each in 3-DOF with high accuracy and low cost. However, the measurable range is fairly limited due to the limited screen size. In this paper, therefore, a visual servoing-based 2-DOF manipulator which controls the pose of lasers is introduced. By controlling the positions of the projected laser points to be on the screen, the proposed robot can estimate the displacement regardless of the screen size. We performed various simulations and experimental tests to verify the performance of the newly proposed robot. The results show that the proposed system overcomes the range limitation of the former system and it can be utilized to accurately estimate the structural displacement.

Container Flow Management in Port Logistics Based on BPM Framework

  • To promote process effectiveness and efficiency, it is necessary that port logistics employ automated equipments for handling containers. There exists a system for automatically managing the container flow, called Control Module. However, it has limitation to assign the execution order to the machine and monitor the container flow in real time process. Business process management (BPM) provides a suitable and effective framework to address this problem including controlling and monitoring the flow of each container. Since the nature of container handling process is different with the common process in BPM that is conducted by human performer, it is necessary to adjust the BPM framework in the domain of port logistic management. This study presents a BPM framework corresponds with both human-based and machine-based activity to enhance the efficiency of port process flow including container flow. This framework is introduced as an integrated approach and mechanism of BPM application into the container handling system for the purpose of port logistics process automation.

Deformation analyses during subway shield excavation considering stiffness influences of underground structures

  • Previous studies for soil movements induced by tunneling have primarily focused on the free soil displacements. However, the stiffness of existing structures is expected to alter tunneling-induced ground movements, the sheltering influences for underground structures should be included. Furthermore, minimal attention has been given to the settings for the shield machine's operation parameters during the process of tunnels crossing above and below existing tunnels. Based on the Shanghai railway project, the soil movements induced by an earth pressure balance (EPB) shield considering the sheltering effects of existing tunnels are presented by the simplified theoretical method, the three-dimensional finite element (3D FE) simulation method, and the in-situ monitoring method. The deformation prediction of existing tunnels during complex traversing process is also presented. In addition, the deformation controlling safety measurements are carried out simultaneously to obtain the settings for the shield propulsion parameters, including earth pressure for cutting open, synchronized grouting, propulsion speed, and cutter head torque. It appears that the sheltering effects of underground structures have a great influence on ground movements caused by tunneling. The error obtained by the previous simplified methods based on the free soil displacements cannot be dismissed when encountering many existing structures.

IT 융합기술을 이용한 식물생장 제어시스템 연구 (A Study on the Control System of Plant Growth Using IT Convergence Technology)

  • 본 연구에서는 LED 광시스템과 식물생장제어시스템을 연계하여 센서를 이용하여 식물환경을 제어 가능한 모니터링시스템에 대한 연구이다. 시스템의 성능을 검증하기 위해 에너지효율, data 전송률, 광량제어 특성에 대한 실험을 실시하였다. 실험한 결과 에너지 효율은 80%이상, 무선통신속도가 1Mb/sec이고 광량제어를 5단계이상 조절 가능함으로써 만족한 결과를 얻었다. 제안된 시스템은 LED 식물공장설비에 적용가능하며, 향후 상용화를 위해서는 생산효율 및 노동비 절감을 위한 자동시스템을 구성하여 농업 자동화설비에 기여할 것이다.

스마트플러그(IOT)를 이용한 대학시설의 전기에너지 사용량 계측 및 분석 사례 연구 (A Case Study of Measuring and Analyzing Electric Energy Usage in University Facilities Using Smart Plug)

  • The purpose of this study is to demonstrate and analyze the function of a Smart Plug before and after it is applied on the electrical appliances by controlling standby power usage. The research measures and analyzes the amount of electrical energy used while activating the Smart Plug with two types of appliances in a university facilities. The smart plugs were applied into a Group 1 appliances (Multi-function device, computer, laptop, Air con) which completely hinder the standby power, and a Group 2 appliances (Refrigerator, cold and hot water dispenser) which does not completely hinder the standby powers due to the characteristics of the function. First, the total standby power saving of all electrical appliances (Group 1 and Group 2) using the Smart plug was measured as 4.59%. Second, the energy saving of the Group 1 products was analyzed as 26.43%. Third, the standby power saving of the air conditioners from mid October to early December was measured as 31.06%, during the seasons when air conditioning was not actively in use. The research indicates that all specified appliances did have better energy efficiency with the Smart plug regardless of the amount of energy usage.

가상 실험실 구현을 위한 시스템 설계 (System Design for the Implementation of Virtual Laboratory)

  • Virtual Laboratory는 네트워크 기술의 발전에 따라 제어 및 계측 분야에서 등장하게 된 새로운 개념으로서 현재 여러 대학 및 연구기관에서 폭넓게 사용되고 있다. Virtual Laboratory를 통하여 사용자는 언제 어디서든지 인스트루먼트에 대한 제어 및 모니터링을 할 수 있는데 이러한 특징은 기존의 실험실에서는 얻을 수 없었던 사용자 효율성 및 향상된 성능을 제공한다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 이러한 Virtual Laboratory의 개념 및 필요성에 대해 간략히 살펴본 후 이를 구현하기 위한 방안에 대해 논의하고자 한다. 사용자가 네트워크상에서 원격의 인스트루먼트를 조작 및 운용할 수 있는 클라이언트-서버 기반의 Virtual Laboratory 구현을 위한 프레임워크 설계를 하고자 하며 단일 프로세서는 물론이고 네트워크상에서 대칭적 다중 프로세서 기반의 제어 및 계측 기능을 수행할 수 있는 시스템 모델을 제안하고자 한다.

고속 전송을 위한 적응형 FEC 및 전송률 제어 (Adaptive FEC and Rate Adaptation for High-speed Transport)

  • 본 논문은 적응형 오류제어 기법을 바탕으로 신뢰성 있는 UDP 기반의 미디어 고속 전송을 제안한다. 제안된 적응형 전송기법은 대역폭의 변화에 효과적으로 대처하기 위해서 네트워크 모니터링을 기반으로 잉여 데이터의 양을 제어한다. 수신측 피드백은 패킷 손실의 유형, 전송률 등의 수신 상황을 송신측이 인지하도록 하여 앞으로 발생될 네트워크 상황을 예측하고 이를 바탕으로 전송률과 적응형 FEC 코드 조합을 적응적으로 제어함으로써 신뢰성 있는 전송을 가능하게 한다. 제안된 시스템의 성능을 측정하기 위한 고속 네트워크에서의 전송 실험은 수백 Mbps의 전송 속도를 보이며 향상된 신뢰성을 보여준다.

디지털전관방송을 위한 통합믹서컨트롤러 개발 (Development of Integrated Mixer Controller for Digital Public Address)

  • 최근 IT기술의 발전을 근간으로 PA시스템에 IT기술이 접목된 혁신적인 제품들이 개발되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 디지털 전관방송을 위한 통합 믹서 컨트롤러를 제안하였다. 기존 디지털 전관방송을 구성하는 디지털믹서와 디지털 통합 컨트롤러의 기능을 포함한 통합믹서컨트롤러를 개발하였다. 개발된 통합믹서컨트롤러는 16개의 오디오입력채널과 8개의 출력채널을 가진 다채널 믹서 기능을 가진다. 그리고, 디지털오디오신호를 처리하기 위한 EQ, Matrix, Limiter을 가지고 있다. 또한, 개발된 컨트롤러는 믹서의 동작상태 모니터링과 전체 PA시스템을 제어하기 위한 인터넷 연결기능을 가진다.

이중화 구조를 가진 변전소자동화시스템의 개발 (The Development of Dual Structured Power Management System)

  • In order to improve the quality of electricity in large scale power systems, stability of power system has to be achieved. This can be done by the means of preventative diagnosis of power equipments and protection, monitoring and control of the power system. Since the recent adoption of digital controllers, an improvement in stability was observed; in particular, IED, which contained self-diagnostic abilities such as fault tolerance, allowed for automatic recovery via redundancy or switching-over functions should there be faults with the equipments. Furthermore, communication lines have been hugely simplified, thus adding to the improvement in stability significantly. Taking these error reports and forecasting emergency reports and by effectively responding to them in the overiding controlling systems, high levels of system stability can be obtained. Power Management System that is being applied to automated power sub-stations, takes the IEC61850 international standard as its specification. In this paper, additional research into achieving stability of already developed PMS system and also the stability of the overall system was carried out, and the results of development of communication servers, which play a pivotal role in connecting systems, are stated.
