Investigation on Dissolution and Removal of Adhered LiCl-KCl-UCl3 Salt From Electrodeposited Uranium Dendrites using Deionized Water, Methanol, and Ethanol

  • Deionized water, methanol, and ethanol were investigated for their effectiveness at dissolving LiCl-KCl-UCl3 at 25, 35, and 50℃ using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to study the concentration evolution of uranium and mass ratio evolutions of lithium and potassium in these solvents. A visualization experiment of the dissolution of the ternary salt in solvents was performed at 25℃ for 2 min to gain further understanding of the reactions. Aforementioned solvents were evaluated for their performance on removing the adhered ternary salt from uranium dendrites that were electrochemically separated in a molten LiCl-KCl-UCl3 electrolyte (500℃) using scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Findings indicate that deionized water is best suited for dissolving the ternary salt and removing adhered salt from electrodeposits. The maximum uranium concentrations detected in deionized water, methanol, and ethanol for the different temperature conditions were 8.33, 5.67, 2.79 μg·L-1 for 25℃, 10.62, 5.73, 2.50 μg·L-1 for 35℃, and 11.55, 6.75, and 4.73 μg·L-1 for 50℃. ICP-MS analysis indicates that ethanol did not take up any KCl during dissolutions investigated. SEM-EDS analysis of ethanol washed uranium dendrites confirmed that KCl was still adhered to the surface. Saturation criteria is also proposed and utilized to approximate the state of saturation of the solvents used in the dissolution trials.

  • The properties of materials which are widely used in industry fields like automobile, shipbuilding, casting, and electronics are strongly needed to have higher surface hardness, lower surface roughness, and higher compressive residual stress. As mentioned above, for the purpose of satisfying three factors, a variety of researches with respect to surface improvement have been actively studied and applied to every industry. SKD61 which is mostly used for die casting process of cold chamber method must meet a countless number of problems which are thermal, mechanical and chemical from highly specific working environment at high temperature over 600℃. Above all, in case of plunger sleeves used for die casting process, thermal fatigue has a bad effect on the surface of an inlet where molten metal is repeatedly injected. On account of it, plunger sleeves cause manufacturers to deteriorate quality of products. Therefore, in this paper, to improve the surface of an inlet of plunger sleeve, multilayer PVD coating using Ti, Cr and Mo is suggested. Furthermore, The surface characteristics such as surface roughness(Rsa, Rsq), surface hardness(HRB, HRC) and residual stress using XRD(X-ray diffractometer) of coated samples and specimens are studied and discussed.

Assessment of the core-catcher in the VVER-1000 reactor containment under various severe accidents

  • The core catcher is used as a passive safety system in new generation nuclear power plants to create a space in the containment for the placing and cooling of the molten corium under various severe accidents. This research investigates the role of the core catcher in the VVER-1000 reactor containment system in mitigating the effects of core meltdown under various severe accidents within the context of the Ex-vessel Melt Retention (EVMR) strategy. Hence, a comparison study of three severe accidents is conducted, including Station Black-Out (SBO), SBO combined with the Large Break Loss of Coolant Accident (LB-LOCA), and SBO combined with the Small Break Loss of Coolant Accident (SB-LOCA). Numerical comparative simulations are performed for the aforementioned scenario with and without the EX-vessel core-catcher. The results showed that considering the EX-Vessel core catcher reduces the amount of hydrogen by about 18.2 percent in the case of SBO + LB-LOCA, and hydrogen production decreases by 12.4 percent in the case of SBO + SB-LOCA. Furthermore, in the presence of an EX-Vessel core-catcher, the production of gases such as CO and CO2 for the SBO accident is negligible. It was revealed that the greatest decrease in pressure and temperature of the containment is related to the SBO accident.

수분이 NaKZn-Chloride의 녹는점과 고온안정성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Moisture on the Melting Point and High-Temperature Stability of NaKZn-Chloride)

  • $NaCl-KCl-ZnCl_2$ 혼합물(NaKZn-Chloride)의 열물성을 조사하여 열저장 매체로서의 잠재성을 평가하였다. 고온용 축열물질로 이용하기 위해서는 축열온도 범위에서 안정된 열물성을 유지하여야 하는데, 사전실험 결과 해당 혼합물은 알려진 고온안정온도인 $850^{\circ}C$ 보다 훨씬 낮은 온도에서 급격한 분해가 진행되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는, 흡수된 수분에 의해 축열물질의 열적 성질이 변화되는지 확인하고자 하였다. 혼합물의 수분함량에 따라 열물성이 변화되는 지를 열물성 장비로 측정하였으며, 가열-냉각 반복실험을 통해 다시 한 번 확인하였다. 그 결과 녹는 점의 경우 흡수된 수분에 관계없이 일정하지만, 고온 안정성의 경우 흡습한 샘플에서 다소 낮아지는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구결과에 따라 흡습성을 가지는 고온 축열물질을 사용하는 시스템에서 수분과의 접촉을 줄임으로써 축열물질의 손실을 줄일 수 있다.

CaO에 의하여 부분 안정화된 $ZrO_2$의 고온 전기 전도도에 대한 연구 (Investigation of High Temperature Electrical Conductivity of CaO-partially Stabilized $ZrO_2$)

  • The present work was undertaken: (1) to determine if CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ prepared by Hot Petroleum Drying Method would show better ionic conductor as an oxygen sensor in molten metals than that prepared by Oxide Wet Mixing Method and than CaO-fully stabilized $ZrO_2$, and (2) to understand the nature of conduction mechanism of CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ by a comparison of measured electrical conductivity data with theory on defect structure of pure monoclinic $ZrO_2$ and fully stabilized cubic $ZrO_2$. The DC electrical conductivity was measured by 3-probe technique and the AC electrical conductivity by 2-probe technique as a function of temperature in the range 973-1373 K and oxygen partial pressure in the range 10-1-10-25Mpa. The results of the experiments were as follows: 1. CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ prepared by Hot petroleum Drying Method showed at T=1094-1285 K and $Po_2$=10-7-10-25 MPa a nearly ionic conduction with 4 times higher conductivity than that prepared by Oxide Wet Mixing Method. 2. High-oxygen pressure conductivity tends toward a Po_2^{+1/5}-Po_2^{+1/6}$dependence. An analysis of possible defect structures suggests that CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ has an anti-Frenkel defect in which singly or doubly ionized oxygen interstitials and defect electrons predominate at T=1094-1285 K and $Po_2$=10-1-10-7MPa. 3. The activation energy for pure electron hole-conduction and ionic conduction of CaO-partially stabilized $ZrO_2$ was found to be 130 KJ/mol at T=973-1373 K, $Po_2$=2, 127 10-2 MPa(air) and 153KJ/mol at T=1094-1285 K respectively.

  • In this study, successive coating and co-sintering techniques have been used to fabricate LSM/GDC based cathode supported direct carbon fuel cells. The porous LSM/GDC cathode substrate, dense, thin and crack free GDC and ScSZ layers as bi-layer electrolyte, and a porous Ni/ScSZ anode layer was obtained by co-firing at $1400^{\circ}C$. The porous structure of LSM/GDC cathode substrate, after sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$, was obtained due to the presence of GDC phase, which inhibits sintering of LSM because of its higher sintering temperature. The electrochemical characterization of assembled cell was carried out with air as an oxidant and carbon particles in molten carbonate as fuel. The measured open circuit voltages (OCVs) were obtained to be more than 0.99 V, independent of testing temperature. The peak power densities were 116, 195 and $225mWcm^{-2}$ at 750, 800 and $850^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • In the power plant using high temperature fuel cells such as Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell(MCFC), and Solid Oxide Fuel Cell(SOFC), the generated electric power per area of power generation facilities is much higher than any other renewable energy sources. - High temperature fuel cell systems are capable of operating at MW rated power output. - It also has a feature that is short for length of the line for connecting the interior of the generation facilities. In normal condition, these points are advantages for voltage drops or power losses. However, in abnormal condition such as fault occurrence in electrical system, the fault currents are increased, because of the small impedance of the short length of power cable. Commonly, to minimize the thermal-mechanical stresses on the stack and increase the systems reliability, we divided the power plant configuration to several banks for parallel operation. However, when a fault occurs in the parallel operation system of power main transformer, the fault currents might exceed the interruption capacity of protective devices. In fact, although the internal voltage level of the fuel cell power plant is the voltage level of distribution systems, we should install the circuit breakers for transmission systems due to fault current. To resolve these problems, the SFCL has been studied as one of the noticeable devices. Therefore, we analyzed the effect of application of the SFCL on bus tie in a fuel cell power plants system using PSCAD/EMTDC.

축열조 내 패킹 모듈의 방열 성능에 대한 수치해석 (A Numerical Study on the Discharging Performance of a Packing Module in a Thermal Storage Tank)

  • 이번 연구는 패킹 모듈로 채워진 축열조의 방열 성능을 수치해석 하였다. 해석에는 PCM의 상변화 현상을 계산하기 위해 엔탈피-공극률 방법을 이용하였다. 이 방법을 통해서 방열 시 축열조 상부로부터 열전달유체가 흐를 때 모듈에서의 녹는 현상을 계산하였다. 축열조 디자인에 모듈 배치, 모듈 수 등의 다양한 인자가 있지만, 본 해석에서는 유량의 변화에 따라 나타나는 축열조 출구온도, 전체 PCM의 시간에 따른 녹은 양 및 축열밀도를 확인하였다. 결과적으로 유량이 증가할수록 출구온도가 높게 형성되었으며, 전체 PCM이 녹는데 필요한 시간이 짧아지고 축열 밀도 역시 증가하여 목표치의 93% 수준에 도달하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 가압주조법을 이용하여 전자 패키징용 고부피분율 $SiC_p/Al$ 금속복합재료를 제조하였다. $SiC_p$ 예비성형체를 제조하기 위하여 예비성형체 금형을 고안하였으며, $Al_2O_{3f}$섬유 보강재를 $SiC_p$ 입자 보강재의 1/10비율로 첨가하고, 무기 성형제($SiO_2$)를 0.8% 이하로 사용하여 49~70 vol.% 의 예비성형체 제작에 성공하였다. 제조된 고부피분율 예비성형체로 금속용탕을 원활히 침투시키기 위해 온도, 가압력 등의 제조조건을 정하였으며, 이러한 새로이 고안된 금형조건을 FEM 열전도 해석에 도입하여 금속복합재료 제조시 몰드 내부에서 발생하는 온도변화를 분석하였다. 제조된 금속복합재료에 대해서는 충격특성 및 열팽창계수 특성평가를 실시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 제조된 금속복합재료의 충격흡수 에너지는 0.2~0.3J, 열팽창계수는 $8~10ppm/^{\circ}C$, 밀도는 $2.9~3.0g/cm^3$로 나타나 패기징 재료로서 적합한 특징을 가진 복합재료가 성공적으로 개발되었음을 확인하였다.

폐자동차 파쇄 잔류물을 이용한 고분연료의 제조연구 (Preparation of Refuse-Derived-Fuel from Automobile Shredder Residues)

  • 폐자동차 shredder line에서 발생한 ASR 재질을 사용하여 가열성형법으로 RDF 시편을 제조하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 성형 실험은 ASR 재질 가운데 플라스틱, 섬유 및 스폰지의 3종을 선택하고 이들을 미리 크기 10mm 이하로 절단하여 사용하였으며, 성형용 mold는 직경 40, 60 및 80mm의 3종류를 사용하였다. 실험결과 가열온도, 가열시간 및 재질 혼합비가 RDF 성형에 중요한 변수로 나타났으며, 가열온도가 높을수록 또한 스폰지 함량이 낮을수록 성형상태는 양호하였다. RDF 시편의 성형밀도는 성형조건에 따라 0.5∼0.9gr/ml 의 범위인 것으로 확인되었으며, 스폰지 혼합비율이 클수록 성형밀도는 낮았다. RDF 성형시편의 파괴강도는 대체로 0.8∼3.0MPa의 값을 보였으며, 성형밀도가 증가할수록 강도가 향상되었다. 한편, 가열온도가 높을수록 ASR 재질의 용융부위가 늘어나 성형밀도가 증가하며, 이에 따라 RDF 시편의 파괴강도는 상대적으로 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.
