  • For the operation of the resonant DC link inverters, only limited number of modulation techniques such as the delta modulation and instantaneous current control techniques have been suggested. However, these modulation techniques have some limitations in practical operation. In this paper, the application of conventional inverter modulation techniques is suggested for the control of the resonant DC link inverter. The harmonic analysis results are presented. The results show that these modulation techniques offer good output characteristics similar to conventional inverter PWM techniques for the operation of the resonant DC link inverter. This implies that not only the delta modulation technique and instantaneous current control techniques but also various other modulation techniques can be applied to the operation of the resonant DC link inverter. This also indicates that open loop control as well as closed loop control can be used for the operation of the resonant inverter. The resonant DC link inverter with various modulation strategies is implemented using V-40 microprocessors.

  • In this paper, various modulation techniques, including the legacy Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal modulation techniques, are introduced and the spectral characteristics and correlation characteristics of signals with various modulation techniques are analyzed based on numerical simulation. With the development of various GNSS services, the limited frequency band has become increasingly saturated, and issues of interoperability and compatibility have emerged in the new GNSS design. Since the efficient allocation of frequency resources is closely related to spectrum design, modulation techniques are one of the important signal design parameters of new signal design. Signal modulation techniques are closely related to various figure of merits (FoMs) as well as spectrum characteristic, and in some cases there is a complicated trade-off between FoMs. Thus, the FoMs associated with modulation technology should be analyzed and the best signal candidates should be chosen carefully via the trade-off analysis for FoMs. In this paper, we define the modulation technique based on Phase Shift Keying (PSK), Binary Offset Carrier (BOC) and Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) for the design of KPS signals, and the FoMs of signals in terms of spectrum and correlation function are evaluated. Signals with various modulation techniques are implemented through a numerical simulation, and the relevant FoMs are analyzed.

  • This paper presents a digital pulse width modulator (DPWM) with a reduced digital modulation delay (a transport delay of the modulator) during the transient response of power converters. During the transient response operation of a power converter, as a result of dynamic variations such as load step-up or step-down, the closed loop controller will continuously adjust the duty cycle in order to regulate the output voltage. The larger the modulation delays, the larger the undesired output voltage deviation from the reference point. The three conventional DPWM techniques exhibit significant leading-edge and/or trailing-edge modulation delays. The DPWM technique proposed in this paper, which results in modulation delay reductions, is discussed, experimentally tested and compared with conventional modulation techniques.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), which employs orthogonal overlapping subcarriers to modulate the signals, has been attracted much attention in recent time as a favorable option for future generation wireless networks due to its ability to overcome many impairments in wireless channels. Since OFDM is a multi-carrier system adaptive modulation techniques can be effectively and efficiently used to enhance the system performance in terms of both BER and overall system capacity. This paper discusses a COFDM-CDMA system with adaptive modulation schemes for future generation wireless networks.

  • This paper describes the 2-channel telemeter system using AM(Amplitude Modulation) - FM (Frequency Modulation) techniques suitable for measurement of spindle torque by strain gage. In order to evaluate the developed system, the model tests were performed for test specimens. The developed system was installed on the plate mill and it was possible to measure and analyze the torque signal of spindle,

  • The most attractive feature of semiconductor lasers as sources for coherent optical communication system is the ability to produce frequency modulation by modulation of the bias current. The frequency deviation of semiconductor lasers under direct modulation depends on the laser structure and modulation frequency. This paper describes a circuit modeling techniques for the directly frequency modulated CSP (Channeled Substrated Planner) semiconductor laser. Predictions from this model are compared with the other published results of sinusoidal frequency modulation below than 1 GHz.

  • To analyze th frequency modulation system the characteristic equation of the F-M system, i.e., Mathieu's equation, is derived from the equivalent circuits of direct modulation system. The analysis of F-M equation is undertaken by the Yonsei 101 Analog Computer. And the computer solution is compared with the theoretical solution. It is concluded that not only the frequency but also the amplitude of the carrier wave are changed by varying the modulation index and the system becomes unstable if the modulation index is increased near to unity.

  • This paper deals with speech digitization and bandwidth compression techniques, particularly two predictive coding methods-namely, adaptive differential pulse code modulation(ADPCM) and adaptive delta modulation(ADM). The principle of a typical adaptive quantizer that is used in ADPCM is explained, and discussed. Also, three companding methods(instantaueous, syllabic, and hybrid companding) that are used in ADM are explained in detail, and their performances are compared. In addition, the performances of ADPCM and ADM as speech coders are compared, and the inerits of each coder are discussed.
