ABS Test를 이용한 아스팔트 혼합물의 수분에 의한 점착특성 평가 (Evaluation of Bond Strength Characteristic of Moisture Induced Asphalt Mixtures using ABS Test)

  • PURPOSES : The objectives of this study are to evaluate moisture sensitivity of various asphalt mixtures and to suggest an alternate method for the dynamic immersion test, which is used to determine the application of anti-stripping agent, by analyzing bond strength. METHODS : The bond strength of various asphalt mixtures such as hot mix asphalt, warm mix asphalt, and polymer-modified asphalt was evaluated by the ABS test. In order to characterize moisture sensitivity at different temperatures of the mixtures, the ABS test was conducted at $-10^{\circ}C$, $5^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, and $54^{\circ}C$ under both dry and wet conditions. The concept of the bond strength ratio was applied for objective moisture sensitivity analysis. Moreover, the bond strength characteristic was compared to the dynamic immersion test to suggest an alternate method to determine the application of anti-stripping agent. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Overall, the polymer-modified asphalt demonstrates the highest bond strength characteristic regardless of moisture condition and temperature. The bond strength characteristic displays a highly reliable linear relationship from $5^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$, and the relationship could be used to predict bond strength at any intermediate temperature. Based on the analysis of bond strength and retained asphalt ratio, the bond strength value of 1254 kPa could be applied as a criterion for anti-stripping agent.

폴리머 개질 아스팔트 콘크리트의 푸아송비에 관한 실험적 연구 (Evaluation of Poisson's Ration of Polymer-Modified Asphalt Concretes)

  • This study was performend to examine Poisson's ration of polymer-modified asphalt concrete due to temperature variatino . Asphalt binder used in this study was an AC85-100, penetration grade of 85-100, and polymer for modifying asphalt were domestic LDPE(Low-density polyethylene) and SBS(Styrene-butadiene-styrene). Aggregate was a crushed gneiss which was most widely used in the middle part of Korea. Using these materias, asphalt mixture slab(340mm$\times$240mm$\times$80mm) with optimum asphalt content from mix design was made and cut into square pillar (80mm$\times$80mm$\times$160mm). Poisson's ration was measured in various temperture (-15$^{\circ}C$, -1$0^{\circ}C$, -5$^{\circ}C$,$0^{\circ}C$,5$^{\circ}C$,1$0^{\circ}C$ and 2$0^{\circ}C$) under the load of one axis repeated compression mode. Poisson's ration of normal asphalt polymer modified asphalt mixtures in normal temperatures. This indicated that AP mixture was more susceptible to temperature effects. From regression aalysis of experimental results, the difference of Poisson's ration between normal and low temperature showed that polymer modified asphalt mixture were lower than AP mixture except for SBS modified asplat mixture.

가공된 석탄재를 사용한 석탄재혼합시멘트의 모르터 특성 (The Mortar Properties of Portland Cements Blended with Modified Coal Ashes)

  • For the development of multi-functional materials which has water reducing power, air entraining power and waterproofing power as well as blending additive in cement mortar the coal ash was modified with asphalt-stearic acid or asphalt-boiled oil mixtures by mechanical treatment. And the physical properties of cement mortar blended with modified coal ashes were compared with those of the water-tightness-cement mortar and the ordinary-portland-cement mortar added with AE.water reducing agent. The mortar of coalash-blend-cement modified with asphalt-stearic mixture was increased acid about 20% in initial strengths and decreased about 20% in water absorption ratio than those of ordinary coalash-blend-cement. The mortar of coalash-blend-cement modified with asphalt-bolied oil mixture was similar to the cement mortar added with AE.water reducing agent in water reduction ratio, air entraining conents and the initial strengths, also was similar to the water-tightness-cement mortar in water absorption and water permeability ratios.

배수성 포장용 고점도 개질 아스팔트 바인더 개발 (Development of High Viscous Modified Asphalt Binder for Porous Asphalt Pavement)

  • 본 연구는 배수성 아스팔트 포장에 사용하기 위하여 국내에서 개발한 개질 아스팔트 바인더 및 혼합물의 실내 및 현장 공용성을 평가한 연구이다. 국내에서 개발된 개질 아스팔트 2종에 대한 DSR, BBR 및 다양한 바인더 시험을 실시하여 공용성능이 상대적으로 우수한 1종의 개질 아스팔트를 선정하였다. 선정된 개질 아스팔트와 기존에 일본에서 사용되는 개질 아스팔트를 사용하여 각각에 대하여 배합설계를 실시하고, 배수성 아스팔트 혼합물을 생산하여 실내 공용성을 비교하기 위해 휠트래킹 시험, 수분손상 시험, 피로시험 등을 수행하였다. 그 결과, 공용특성 측면에서 국산의 개질 아스팔트가 일본 개질 아스팔트와 비슷하거나 경우에 따라서는 우수함을 확인하였다. 실내시험결과를 바탕으로 현장 시험시공을 실시하였고, 추적조사를 통하여 시간에 따른 공극률과 소음특성의 변화를 측정하였다. 그 결과 시공 초기에는 배수 및 소음 저감 능력이 우수하였으나 2년이 경과한 후 소음 저감 능력이 감소하여 SMA 포장과 비슷한 수준의 소음저감효과를 나타내었다.

중온화 첨가제를 사용한 중온 재생 아스팔트 혼합물 평가 (Evaluation of Warm-Recycled Asphalt Mixtures using Polyethylene Wax-Based Additive)

  • PURPOSES : The main purposes of this study are to examine the influences of polyethylene wax-based WMA additive on the optimum asphalt content of warm-recycled asphalt mixture based on the Marshall mix design and to evaluate performance of warm-recycled asphalt mixture containing 30% RAP with polyethylene wax-based WMA additive. METHODS: Physical and rheological properties of the residual asphalt were evaluated in terms of penetration, softening point, ductility and performance grade (PG) in order to examine the effects of polyethylene wax-based WMA additive on the residual asphalt. Also, To evaluate performance characteristics of the warm-recycled asphalt mixtures using polyethylene wax-based WMA additive along with a control hot-recycled asphalt mixture, indirect tensile strength test, modified Lottman test, dynamic immersion test, wheel tracking test and dynamic modulus test were conduced in the laboratory. RESULTS : Based on the limited laboratory test results, polyethylene wax-based WMA additive is effective to decrease mixing and compacting temperatures without compromising the volumetric characteristics of warm-recycled asphalt mixtures compared to hot-recycled asphalt mixture. Also, it doesn't affect the optimum asphalt content on recycled-asphalt mixture. All performance test results show that the performance of warm-recycled asphalt mixture using polyethylene wax-based WMA additive is similar to that of a control hot-recycled asphalt mixture. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, the performance of warm-recycled asphalt mixture using polyethylene wax-based WMA additive is comparable to hot-recycled asphalt mixture.

개질아스팔트 콘크리트 혼합물의 기계적 특성평가 (An Evaluation of Mechanical Characteristics of Modified Asphalt Concrete Mixture)

  • 현재 개질 아스팔트 콘크리트 혼합물의 공용성을 평가하기위한 많은 연구가 진행되었다. 본 연구는 개질 아스팔트 바인더 중에서 D사에서 개발된 Elvaloy개질 아스팔트 바인더를 사용한 아스팔트 혼합물의 기계적 특성을 평가하기위하여 수행되었다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기위하여 간접인장강도와 회복탄성계수 시험이 수행되었다. 시험결과, Elvaloy개질 아스팔트 콘크리트 혼합물의 간접인장강도와 회복탄성계수 값은 일반 밀입도 아스팔트 콘크리트 혼합물보다 높은 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, Elvaloy개질 아스팔트 혼합물의 공용성과 안정성은 일반 밀입도 아스팔트 혼합물보다 우수할 것으로 예상된다.

한국형 도로포장 설계 프로그램의 소석회 사용 아스팔트 혼합물 특성 적용 (Application of Hydrated Lime-Modified Asphalt Mixture Properties to Korean Pavement Research Program)

  • PURPOSES : The hydrated lime-modified asphalt, which improves moisture resistance, is normally used for pavements to reduce the number of potholes. However, the method of applying the material properties of the lime-modified asphalt mixture for use in pavements is not covered in the Korean Pavement Research Program (KPRP). The objective of this research is to find a method for the design application of lime-modified asphalt's material properties to the KPRP. METHODS: The section for test design is selected in some conditions which are related to the level of design regarding Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT). To define the application methods of hydrated lime in the KPRP, the models of fatigue, rut and international roughness index (IRI) are determined based on the M-EPDG test results from some earlier research results. Moreover, it is well known that dynamic moduli of the unmodified mixture are not different from those of the lime-modified mixture. RESULTS: The performance results of hydrated lime-modified asphalt pavement were not very much different from those of the unmodified pavement, which meant the limited design regulations regarding fatigue failure, rutting deformation and IRI. CONCLUSIONS: The KPRP uses the weather model from the data for previous 10 years. It implies that the KPRP cannot predict abnormal climate changes accurately. Hence, the predictive weather data regarding the abnormal climate changes are unreliable. Secondly, the KPRP cannot apply the moisture resistance of asphalt mixtures. Therefore, a second level of design study will have to be performed to reflect the influence of moisture. It means that the influence on pavement performance can be changed by the application of hydrated lime in asphalt mixture design.

대입경 혼합물의 역학적 특성 평가 (Evaluation of the Mechanical Characteristics of the Large Stone Asphalt Mixtures)

  • 본 연구는 대입경 혼합물의 배합설계와 소성변형 및 균열특성에 관련된 역학적 특성에 관한 연구결과이다. 대입경 혼합물은 1989년 미국 아스팔트기술쎈타의 Kandhal에 의해서 연구되었으며, 일본 및 아랍의 여러 국가에서 포장건설에 사용하고 있다. 이들의 경험과 연구결과에 의하면 대입경 혼합물을 구성하고 있는 골재의 구성은 결합력이 견고하고 바인더가 고온에서 영향을 받지 않아 소성변형에 큰 저항성을 보이는 것으로 알려져 있으나, 실제로 증명할 수 있는 역학적인 시험을 수행한 자료는 없는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 크리프시험, 회복탄성계수시험, 휠 트래킹시험 및 라벨링 시험을 실시하여 대입경 혼합물의 특성을 분석하였으며 시험 결과를 일반 혼합물 및 개질아스팔트 혼합물과 비교한 결과 대입경 혼합물의 소성변형에 대한 저항성은 매우 우수한 것으로 나타났다.
