Most of the statistical signal analysis processed in the time domain and the frequency domain are based on the assumption that the signal is weakly stationary(wide sense stationary). Therefore, it is necessary to know whether the surface EMG signals processed in the statistical basis satisfy the condition of the weak stationarity. The purpose of this study is to find optimal segment length of surface EMG signal for assessing stationarity with the modified Run-test and RA-test. Ten stationary surface EMG signals were simulated by AR(autoregressive) modeling, and ten real surface EMG signals were recorded from biceps brachii muscle and then modified to have non-stationary structures. In condition of varying segment length from 20ms to 100ms, stationarity of the signals was tested by using six different methods of modified Run-test and RA-test. The results indicate that the optimal segment length for the surface EMG is 30ms~35ms, and the best way for assessing surface EMG signal stationarity is the modified Run-test (Run2) method using this optimal length.
We consider some problems of the Modified SPRT(Sequential Probability Ratio Test) method for fault detection and isolation of inertial redundant sensor systems and propose an Advanced SPRT method to solve the problems of the Modified SPRT method. One problem of the Modified SPRT method to apply to inertial sensor system comes from the effect of inertial sensor errors such as misalignment, scale factor error and sensor bias in the parity vector, which make the Modified SPRT method hard to be applicable. The other problem is due to the correlation of parity vector components which may induce false alarm. We use a two-stage Kalman filter to remove effects of the inertial sensor errors and propose the modified parity vector and the controlled parity vector which removes the effect of correlation of parity vector components. The Advanced SPRT method is derived form the modified parity vector and the controlled parity vector. Some simulation results are presented to show the usefulness of the Advanced SPRT method to redundant inertial sensor systems.
An important problem in frequency analysis is the estimation of the quantile for a certain return period. In frequency analysis an assumed probability distribution is fitted to the observed sample data to estimate the quantile at the upper tail corresponding to return periods which are usually much larger than the record length. In most cases, the selection of an appropriate probability distribution is based on goodness of fit tests. The goodness of fit test method can be described as a method for examining how well sample data agrees with an assumed probability distribution as its population. However it gives generally equal weight to differences between empirical and theoretical distribution functions corresponding to all the observations. In this study, the modified Anderson-Darling (AD) test statistics are provided using simulation and the power study are performed to compare the efficiency of other goodness of fit tests. The power test results indicate that the modified AD test has better rejection performances than the traditional tests. In addition, the applications to real world data are discussed and shows that the modified AD test may be a powerful test for selecting an appropriate distribution for frequency analysis when extreme cases are considered.

The combined waterproofing method is an excellent method to overcome the disadvantages of the single waterproofing method by composing two or more materials to complement each other, but it is a method that can cause defects such as separation and peeling between materials due to the heterogeneity of the applied two materials. In order to improve this, in this study, we aimed to develop a technology for inducing chemical unification between materials through a urea reaction with a coating material applied on the lower side by laminating a nonwoven fabric treated with a modified amine on the back surface of the sheet material, The adhesion performance test was carried out with the presence or absence of denatured amine treated nonwovens as variables. As a result of the test, it was confirmed that the adhesion performance of the specimen to which the modified amin - treated nonwoven fabric was applied was improved by about 60% or more as compared with the specimens not having the denatured amine treated specimen.

The objective of this paper is to apply the load ratio method to the measurement of the crack length of the real scale pipe specimen. The load ratio method was modified and finite element analyses were performed to derive the relationship between the normalized compliance and the normalized crack length for the pipe specimen. In order to measure the crack length, the direct current potential drop method and the modified load ratio method were applied to the pipe test. The applicability of the modified load ratio method was confirmed by comparing the calculated crack length with the measured crack length from the pipe experiment.

We propose the new sampling method, called modified ranked ordering set sampling (MROSS). Kim and Kim (2003) suggested the sign test using the ranked ordering set sampling (ROSS), and showed that the asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) of ROSS against RSS for sign test increases as sample size does. We propose the estimator for the population mean using MROSS. The relative precision (RP) of estimator of the population mean using MROSS method with respect to the usual estimator using modified RSS is higher, and when the underlying distribution is skewed, the bias of the proposed estimator is smaller than that of several ranked set sampling estimators.
The paper is intended to propose design strength of slender steel reinforced beam-columns by using the modified superposed method. The design of composite members is carried out by a superposed strength method in AIJ (Architectural Institute of Japan) design method. The bearing capacities of the steel part and the concrete part have to be determined separately and then added to a combined capacity. Authors have proposed a new superposed method in a modified form for the slender composite beam-columns and reinforced column. The modified superposed method is adopted for the slender steel reinforced beam-columns. Validation of the modified superposed method is undertaken by comparison with analytical results calculated assuming a sine curve deflected shape of the beam-columns, and with the test results conducted in Japan.

A modified Bagdonavičius-Nikulin chi-square goodness-of-fit is defined and studied. The lymphoma data is analyzed using the modified goodness-of-fit test statistic. Different non-Bayesian estimation methods under complete samples schemes are considered, discussed and compared such as the maximum likelihood least square estimation method, the Cramer-von Mises estimation method, the weighted least square estimation method, the left tail-Anderson Darling estimation method and the right tail Anderson Darling estimation method. Numerical simulation studies are performed for comparing these estimation methods. The potentiality of the new model is illustrated using three real data sets and compared with many other well-known generalizations.
The governing design point of shallow foundation is not its bearing capacity but its settlemen and N-value by the SPT is one of the key parameters for settlement estimation. However, if the N-value is more than 50/30, such as 50/10 or 50/20, the N-vlaues are not blow count of 30cm depth penetration. In these cases, the estimated settlements have big difference with the measured values because the applied maximum N value for the settlement estimation is 50. Therefore, in this study, the modified method for N-value estimation is suggested. The settlements by four methods, which are based on Elastic Theory with application of modified N-value, are compared with the Origina Plate Load Test data. The same comparision was carried out with another seven Empirical Methods. The result of this study showed that the error range of settlement is decreased from 260.4~2136.5% to 20.3~272.7%. Among four methods which are based on Elastic Theory, the original method by Elastic Theory is the most accurate with the application of modified N-value. Among Empirical Methods, Terzaghi-Peck's(1948, 1967) modified method 1 is the most accurate with the application of modified N-value. The differences between the original method by Elastic Theory and Terzaghi-Peck's(1948, 1967) modified method 1 are neglectable.

Theoretical and experimental result studies of the unconfined penetration test (UP) method are conducted to suggest a new test method by improving the UP method for determination of the tensile strength of compacted fine-grained soils. From the theoretical aspect, the tensile strength of the specimen is estimated from the maximum load by the theory of perfect plasticity with assumptions, sufficient local deformability and modified Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. Experimentally, some factors including relative size of specimen-disc, disc diameter, and loading rate are needed more study, because these factors significantly affect the results of tensile strength. Improvement of the alignement between two discs and specimen in the UP test is also necessary to eliminate the error due to eccentrically loading.
