The Modified Nonlinear Filter to Remove Impulse Noise (임펄스 잡음제거를 위한 변형된 비선형 필터)

  • In the transmitting process of image signal processing system, there are several different causes of degradation that have been occurring. The main cause of degradation is attributed to the noise. The most representive method of removing noise of image, which is caused by impulse noise environment, is using the SM(standard median filter). At edge, the filter has a special feature which has a tendency to decrease. As a result, we proposed a nonlinear filter that restores the image considering edge quality in the impulse noise environment. And through the simulation, we compared with the many of the conventional algorithms and the value of the PSNR(peak signal to nise ratio) is better than them and preserve the edge very well. So the nonlinear filter that proposed in this paper is excepted to help improve restoring the images that in impulse noise environment.

  • Organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) are fabricated on the plastic substrate through 4-level mask process without photolithographic patterning to yield the simple fabrication process. And we herewith report for the effect of dielectric surface modification on the electrical characteristics of OTFTs. The KIST-JM-1 as an organic molecule for the surface modification is deposited onto the surface of zirconium oxide $(ZrO_2)$ gate dielectric layer. In this work, we have examined the dependence of electrical performance on the interface surface state of gate dielectric/pentacene, which may be modified by chemical properties in the gate dielectric surface.

  • Application of organic materials with low cost, easy fabrication and advantages of flexible device are increasing attention by research work. Recently, one of them, organic solar cells were rapidly increased efficiency with regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyricacidmethylester (PCBM) used typical material. To increased efficiency of organic solar cell has tried control of domain of PCBM and crystallite of P3HT by thermal annealing and solvent vapor annealing. [4-6] In those annealing effects, be made inefficiently efficiency, which is increased fill factor (FF), and current density by phase-separated morphology with blended P3HT and PCBM. In addition, increased conductivity by modified hole transfer layer (HTL) such as Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), increased both optical and conducting effect by titanium oxide (TiOx), and changed cathode material for control work function were increased efficiency of Organic solar cell. In this study, we had described effect of organic photovoltaics by conductivity of interlayer such as PEDOT:PSS and TCO (Transparent conducting oxide) such as ITO, which is used P3HT and PCBM. And, we have measured with exactly defined shadow mask to study effect of solar cell efficiency according to conductivity of hole transfer layer.

Comparisons of Recognition Rates for the Off-line Handwritten Hangul using Learning Codes based on Neural Network (신경망 학습 코드에 따른 오프라인 필기체 한글 인식률 비교)

  • This paper described the recognition of the Off-line handwritten Hangul based on neural network using a feature extraction method. Features of Hangul can be extracted by a $5{\times}5$ window method which is the modified $3{\times}3$ mask method. These features are coded to binary patterns in order to use neural network's inputs efficiently. Hangul character is recognized by the consonant, the vertical vowel, and the horizontal vowel, separately. In order to verify the recognition rate, three different coding methods were used for neural networks. Three methods were the fixed-code method, the learned-code I method, and the learned-code II method. The result was shown that the learned-code II method was the best among three methods. The result of the learned-code II method was shown 100% recognition rate for the vertical vowel, 100% for the horizontal vowel, and 98.33% for the learned consonants and 93.75% for the new consonants.

The Effects of Air Stacking Exercise on Pulmonary Function in Elderly Adults

  • PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of air stacking exercise on lung capacity, activities of daily living, and walking ability in elderly adults. METHODS: A total of 27 subjects were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EG=13) or a control group (CG=14). Subjects in the experimental group participated in an active pulmonary rehabilitation program. 5 days a week for 4 weeks. The active pulmonary rehabilitation program was composed of an air stacking exercise with an oral nasal mask and manually assisted coughing. Conventional pulmonary rehabilitation exercises, such as, cough exercise, deep breathing, and abdominal muscle strengthening exercises were performed by both groups. Pulmonary function parameters, peak cough flow (PCF), and oxygen saturation were measured and the 6-minute walk test and Korean version of the modified Barthel index (K-MBI) scores were applied. RESULTS: Significant intergroup differences were observed for forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) results after intervention (p<.05), and for 6 minute walk test and PCF results after intervention and at 2-week follow-up visits (p<.05). Post hoc test results showed significant differences in K-MBI, 6-minute walk test, and FEV1 in the experimental group after intervention (p<.05). FVC values were significantly higher after intervention and at 2-week follow-up visits versus pre-intervention (p<.05). PCF values were also significantly higher after intervention and remained significantly higher at 2-week follow-up visits (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Air stacking exercise in elderly adults improves lung capacity and exercise tolerance.

A Study on Robust Median Filter in Impulse Noise Environment (임펄스 노이즈에 강인한 메디안 필터에 관한 연구)

  • With the development of Information Technology in recent years, the image has been an important means to store or express information. Generally, during the process of acquiring and storing images, the images can be corrupted by noise of which typical types are Impulse(Impulse Noise) and AWGN(Addiction White Gaussian Noise). Impulse noise shows irregularly in black and white over the length and breadth of the image by sharp and sudden disturbance of the image signal. In the Impulse noise environment, SM(Standard Median) filter would be used because of its good noise removal performance and simple algorithm. However, when SM filter removes noise, it also produces error at the edge of image and causes whole image quality deterioration. In this paper, we propose a method based on modified nonlinear filter operation scheme which enhances the features of noise removal and detail image preservation when restoring image in Impulse noise environment. And, we compared it with existing methods and the performances through simulation.

Development of a Coded-aperture Gamma Camera for Monitoring of Radioactive Materials (방사성 물질 감시를 위한 부호화 구경 감마카메라 개발)

  • A coded-aperture gamma camera was developed to increase the sensitivity of a pin hole camera made with a pixellated CsI(Tl) scintillator and a position-sensitive photomultiplier tube. The modified round-hole uniformly redundant array of pixel size $13{\times}11$ was chosen as a coded mask considering the detector spatial resolution. The performance of the coded-aperture camera was compared with the pin hole camera using various forms of Tc-99m source to see the improvement of signal-to-noise ratio or the improvement of the sensitivity. The image quality is much improved despite of a slight degradation of the spatial resolution. Though the camera and the test were made for low energy case, but the concept of the coded-aperture gamma camera could be effectively used for the radioactive environmental monitoring and other applications.

  • Corruption occurs in the process of processing image signal and the corruption changes the pixel value within the image to damage the original information. AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) is a representative example. For filters to remove AWGN, there are filters such as MF(mean filter), WF(wiener filter), and AWMF(adaptive weighted mean filter). However images processed through standard previous filters lock preservation characteristics in edge areas. Therefore, threshold value is applied for processing on the standard deviation of the local mask in this study and if the standard deviation is smaller than the threshold value, it is not filtered and if the value is bigger than the threshold value, the study suggested an algorithm that processes using weighted value utilizing standard deviation.

  • Recently, digital image processing is applied a lot to the broadcasting, communication, computer graphic, and medical sectors. It generates noise when data is transmitted. There are many kinds of noises that add to the image such as salt and pepper noise, AWGN, and complex noise. Thus, this study divides the corrupted image into four4 areas and estimates the types of noises each pixel, and this study suggested a switching filter that separates the estimated into salt and pepper noise and AWGN. In the case that center pixel of local mask is corrupted by salt and pepper noise, it used a histogram probability weighting of subdivided area. Also, in case that it is corrupted by AWGN, algorithm that is applied to with different weights given for the distribution of each area with using subdivided area's distribution was suggested. For an objective comparison and conclusion, this study used PSNR and compared to existing methods.

A Study on Modified Spatial Weighted Filter in Mixed Noise Environments (복합잡음 환경에서 변형된 공간 가중치 필터에 관한 연구)

  • In recent image processing, active researches have been made along with rapid development in digital times. However, it is know that the image degradation occurs due to various external factors in the processes of image data processing, transmission and storage, and the main reason of image degradation is due to the noise. Typical methods to remove the noise are CWMF(center weighted median filter), A-TMF(alpha-trimmed mean filter) and AWMF(adaptive weighted median filter) and these methods have a little bit lacking noise reduction characteristics in mixed noise environments. Therefore, in order to remove the mixed noise, image restoration filter processing algorithm was suggested in this paper which processes by applying the median value of the mask and space weighted value after noise judgment. And for the objective judgment, it was compared with existing methods and PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) was used as a judgment standard.
