Shotcrete has been referred to as gunite, pneumatically applied mortar or concrete, sprayed concrete or mortar. There are sound reasons why sprayed mortar is one of the best portland cement based material for repairing old concrete structures. However, it is difficult to find the research results on the latex-modified mortar nevertheless on the impact of air onto the fresh and hardened properties of latex-modified mortar. So, the main experimental program included strength test, slump test, rapid chloride permeability test, image analysis for air void system, and chemical attacks with the main experimental variables of latex content, fine aggregate content, water-cement ratio, and air foamer content.
It is known that latex-modified concretes were increased their durability and permeability by added latex. The purpose of this study was to analysis the air void systems in latex-modified concretes using a reasonable and objective image analysis method with main experimental variables such as water-cement ratios, latex contents(0%, 15%) and cement types(ordinary portland cement, high-early strength cement and very-early strength cement). The results are analyzed spacing factor, air volume after hardened, air distribution and structure. Also, air void systems and permeability of latex-modified concretes were compared with correlation. The results are as follows; The same w/c ratio LMC showed better air entraining effect than OPC with AE water reducer. The VES-LMC showed that the number of entrained air below $100{\mu}m$ increased more than four times. In the HES-LMC, micro entraining air having range from 50 to $500{\mu}m$ increased above 7 times without antifoamer. Though spacing factor was measured low, latex-modified concretes were showed that permeability was good. It is considered that air void system does not have an effect on the property of latex-modified concretes but latex film is more influenced in the their durability.

This study was performed to change the latex content for properties of freezing-thawing resistance. When styrene-butadiene latex is added to portland cement, aggregate and water, a concrete with the color, consistency and workability of ordinary conventional concrete results, but with 20% to 35% less water. When cured, the concrete consists of hydrated cement and aggregate interconnected by a film of latex particles. In general, increasing the amount of latex will produce concrete with increased tensile and flexural strength and lower modulus of elasticity. Air entrainment has been used in conventional concrete for the past 50 years to impart freeze-thaw resistance. Latex modified concrete does not need additional air entrainment for freeze-thaw resistance provided adequate cure occurs.

This research was to evaluate the shrinkage and durability performance of latex modified repair mortar and to improve the service lift of the agricultural concrete structures. The shrinkage characteristics of the repair material creates the delamination of repair materials and existing concrete. It may reduce the service life of structures. Also the reduction of durability performance of the repair materials induces the destruction of the repaired concrete structures at early stage. In this research, plastic and drying shrinkage, thermal expansion coefficient for shrinkage properties, durability performance, permeability, repeated freezing and thawing, and resistance of chemical solution test were performed. Test results showed that the latex modified repair mortar indicated the shrinkage amount which the delamination does not happen, and the latex modified repair mortar appeared excellent long-term durability performance which can increase the service life.
The purpose of this study was to remove the excessive air foaming which was produced in mixing the RSLMC(latex-modified concrete with rapid-setting cement) by choosing the best antifoam agent type. A series of RSLMM(latex-modified mortar with rapid-setting cement) experiments were carried out as a basic experiments for RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as antifiamer types(A, B, C, D), antifoamer contents(0, 1, 2, 3%), and latex contents(10, 15%). Air content test and compressive strength tests were carried out to measure the improved properties of RSLMM. SEM analysis, also, was carried to observe the formation of latex film. The results of RSLMM showed that the decrease of 50% air content was obtained by admixturing an antifoam agent by 1%. This made the strength enhanced and the workability be within the purposed. The best properties of compressive strengths was obtained at latex content of 15% and D antifoam agent of 1%. compressive strength increased about 32.6%. The analysis of SEM results no difference in a formation of later film.
This study investigated microstructural changes of cured urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins mixed with aqueous rubber latex emulsion after intentional acid etching. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used in order to better understand a hydrolytic degradation process of cured UF resins responsible for the formaldehyde emission from wood-based composite panels. A liquid UF resin with a formaldehyde to urea (F/U) molar ratio 1.0 was mixed with a rubber latex emulsion at three different mixing mass ratios (UF resin to latex = 30:70, 50:50, and 70:30). The rate of curing of the liquid modified UF resins decreased with an increase of the rubber latex proportion as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement. Ultrathin sections of modified and cured UF resin films were exposed to hydrochloric acid etching in order to mimic a certain hydrolytic degradation. TEM observation showed spherical particles and various cavities in the cured UF resins after the acid etching, indicating that the acid etching had hydrolytically degraded some part of the cured UF resin by acid hydrolysis, also showing spherical particles of cured UF resin dispersed in the latex matrix. These results suggested that spherical structures of cured UF resin might play an important role in hindering the hydrolysis degradation of cured UF resin.

The bond strength of latex-modified concrete to normal portland cement concrete measured with direct pull-out test. Using $250\times1100\times1400$mm concrete slab as the base concrete, an overlay of the latex-modified concrete is applied and cured similar to bridge deck and then tested in direct pull-out. The test results not only give values of the bond strength of the overlay tested but also clearly indicate whether the failure is in the bond interface or the materials tested.

This study are decided the mix proportion method of latex modified concrete for agricultural concrete structures from the results of workability and strength test with mix proportion factor. For mix proportion factor, this study are selected the water-cement ratio, unit cement amount and latex content. Also, this study were performed the slump, compressive strength test and microstructure analysis using the scanning electron microscope(SEM). The strength and slump of LMC are dependent with unit cement amount, latex content, and water-cement ratio. Especially, the strength of LMC are not controlled by single mix proportion factor but effected by combined mix proportion factor. Microstructure investigation are showed the LMC are reduced the internal pore volume and enhanced the transition zone between cement paste and aggregate interface. This effect get by consist of latex films in the concrete. Also, this study were recommended the mix proportion method for LMC. These mix proportions method are estimated the mix design for satisfied the target performance which are applied the agricultural concrete structure.
Three types of parylene (PA-N, PA-C, PA-D) were used for coating the surface on natural latex rubbers in order to improve surface characteristics including mechanical properties and biocompatibility. The parylene coating was the CVD (chemical vapor deposition) method, and the surface properties of the modified latex were measured. Annealing effects on the mechanical properties of the coated latex were also investigated. The adhesion between latex and parylene was good for all the types of parylene used. As annealing temperature was increased, latex modified with PA-N became more hydrophobic, while the latex treated with PA-C and PA-D became more hydrophilic. As the annealing temperature was raised, the tensile strength was increased, and the elongation was decreased. The biocompatibility was noticeably improved on the latex surface modified with the parylenes through CVD method.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of blast-furnace slag on strength development and durability of latex-modified concrete (LMC) and ordinary portland cement concrete as slag contents. Main experimental variables were performed latex contents (0%, 10%, 15%) and slag contents (0%, 30%). The compressive and flexural strengths, chloride-ion rapid permeability and chemical attacks resistance were measured to analyze the characteristic of the developed LMC and BS-LMC(latex-modified concrete added blast-furnace slag) on hardened concrete. The test results showed that compressive and flexural strength of BS-LMC increased as the slag contents increased from 0% to 30% at the long term of curing. It considers blast furnace slag used when latex content was up to 10%. The permeability resistance of BS-LMC(latex 10%, blast 30%) was extremely good at the curing time 90 days. Also. the effects of added blast furnace slag on OPC and LMC were increased on the permeability and chemical attacks resistance.
