  • This paper describes a speech enhancement scheme that leads to significant improvements in recognition performance when used in the ASR front-end. The proposed approach is based on adaptive comb filtering and an MMSE-related parameter estimator. While adaptive comb filtering reduces noise components remarkably, it is rarely effective in reducing non-stationary noises. Furthermore, due to the uniformly distributed frequency response of the comb-filter, it can cause serious distortion to clean speech signals. This paper proposes an improved comb-filter that adjusts its spectral magnitude to the original speech, based on the speech absence probability and the gain modification function. In addition, we introduce the modified comb filtering-based speech enhancement scheme for ASR in mobile environments. Evaluation experiments carried out using the Aurora 2 database demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms conventional adaptive comb filtering techniques in both clean and noisy environments.

  • Hull form generation and variation methods to be mainly discussed in this study are based on the fairness optimized B-Spline form parameter curves (FOBFC). These curves can be used both as indirect modification function for variation and as geometric entities for hull form generation. The flexibility and functionality of geometric control technique play the most important role for the success of hull form optimization. This study shows the hydrodynamic optimization process and the characteristics of optimum design hull forms of a 14,000TEU containership and 60K LPG carrier. SHIPFLOW has been used as a CFD solver and FS-Framework as a geometric modeler and optimizer.

  • We consider multiobjective fractional programming problems with generalized invexity. An equivalent multiobjective programming problem is formulated by using a modification of the objective function due to Antczak. We give relations between a multiobjective fractional programming problem and an equivalent multiobjective fractional problem which has a modified objective function. And we present modified vector saddle point theorems.

  • In this paper, a simple improved 8-node finite element for the finite element analysis of fibrous composite plates is presented by using the direct modification. We drive explicit expressions of shape functions for the 8-node element with bilinear element geometry, which is modified so that it can represent any quadratic fields in Cartesian coordinates. The refined first-order shear deformation theory is proposed, which results in parabolic through-thickness distribution of the transverse shear strains and stresses from the formulation based on the third-order shear deformation theory. It eliminates the need for shear correction factors in the first-order theory. This finite element is further improved by combined use of assumed strain, modified shape function, and refined first-order theory. To show the effectiveness of our simple modification on the 8-node finite elements, numerical studies are carried out the static, buckling and free vibration analysis of fibrous composite plates.

  • Background: The current study was undertaken to investigate the results of a modification in the conventional Maze III Procedure devised by the authors. The aim of the technical modification was in improving the left atrial contractility. Material and Method: Between July 1997 and December 1998, 34 patients with chronic atrial fibrillation for more than 1 year duration underwent a modified Maze III procedure. The assessment of the left atrial function was made by various echocardiographic measurements and SA nodal recovery was evaluated by HRV Holter monitoring. Result: All 34 patients were in sinus rhythm. On echocardiography, right atrial contraction was detected in 32 patients(94.1%) and left atrial contraction in 33 patients(97.1%). The echocardiographic A wave at 1, 6, and 12 months or more were 50.5$\pm$31.5, 62.1$\pm$25.1, 66$\pm$20.6 cm/sec, respectively, and the E wave measurements at the same time points were 152$\pm$31.1, 134.4$\pm$35.2, 133$\pm$27.5 cm/sec. The corresponding A/E ratios were 0.32$\pm$0.13, 0.48$\pm$0.18, 0.5$\pm$0.15, showing a rising trend. Treadmill evaluation at 6 months showed a mean 82% increase in heart rate after excising, and the SDNN and SDANN upon HRV Holter at 1 and 3 months postoperatively were 65.3$\pm$28.1/87.8$\pm$27.2 ms, and 60.0$\pm$24.1/83.4$\pm$25.7 ms, respectively, showing a predoinant autonomic recovery in the parasympathetic system(PSDNN = 0.01, PSDANN =0.015). Conclusion: The results of our data suggest that the current modification in the conventional Maze III Procedure was efective in enhancing the postoperative left atrial contractility.

  • The sensor network for the health care application service has the man or movable object as the main sensing object. In order to support inter-node interaction by the movement of such sensing objects, the node's dynamic function modification, dynamic self-configuration and energy efficiency must be considered. In this paper, the Agilla model which supports the dynamic function modification through the agent migration between nodes and LEACH protocol which guarantees the dynamic self-configuration and energy efficiency through the configuration of inter-node hierarchical cluster configuration are analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis, the Mobility Agent Middleware which supports the dynamic function modification between nodes is designed, and LEACH_Mobile protocol which guarantees the node nobility as the weakness of the existing LEACH protocol is suggested. Also, the routing module which supports the LEACH_Mobile protocol is designed and the interface for conjunction with Mobility Agent Middleware is designed. Then, it is definitely increase performance which un mobility node of transfer data rate through LEACH_Mobile protocol of simulation result.

  • Laser induced surface hardening of Tool steel(STC5) can be achieved either with or without surface melting. In trans-formation hardening as the surface is heated to a temperature below its melting point and is rapidly cooled solidified microstructures are usually much finer and stronger than those of the base matals. For this reason surface modification of tool steel by YAG laser irradiation has been studied as a function of processing parameters such as power density pulse width defocusing distance and molten depth. The high energy density changes and refines the microstructure of the near surface layer. In the case of beam passes martensite formed in the melt zone exhibited very high vickers hardness values. Molten depth and width depend on defocusing distance and energy of black color painting is more absorptive than other color painting.

  • Toxicoproteomics integrates the proteomic knowledge into toxicology by enabling protein quantification in biofluids and tissues, thus taking toxicological research to the next level. Post-translational modification (PTM) alters the three-dimensional (3D) structure of proteins by covalently binding small molecules to them and therefore represents a major protein function diversification mechanism. Because of the crucial roles PTM plays in biological systems, the identification of novel PTMs and study of the role of PTMs are gaining much attention in proteomics research. Of the 300 known PTMs, protein acylation, including lysine formylation, acetylation, propionylation, butyrylation, malonylation, succinylation, and crotonylation, regulates the crucial functions of many eukaryotic proteins involved in cellular metabolism, cell cycle, aging, growth, angiogenesis, and cancer. Here, I reviewed recent studies regarding novel types of lysine acylation, their biological functions, and their applicationsin toxicoproteomics research.

  • Among the conventional time-scale modification (TSM) methods, the synchronized overlap and add (SOLA) method is widely used due to its good performance relative to computational complexity But the SOLA method remains complex due to its synchronization procedure using the normalized cross-correlation function. In this paper, we introduce a computationally efficient SOLA method utilizing 3 level center clipping method, as well as zero-crossing and level-crossing information. The result of subjective preference test indicates that the proposed method can reduce the computational complexity by over 80% compared with the conventional SOLA method without serious degradation of synthesized speech quality.

  • A novel method for improving the adhesion of diamond films on cemented carbide tool inserts has been investigated. This method is based on the formation of a compositionally graded interface by developing a microrough surface structure using a pulsed laser process. Residual stresses of diamond films deposited on laser modified cemented carbides were measured as a function of substrate roughness using micro-Raman spectroscopy. The surface morphology and roughness of diamond films and cemented carbides were also investigated at different laser modification conditions. It was found that the increasing interface roughness reduced the average residual stress of diamond films, resulting in improved adhesion of diamond films on cemented carbides.
