  • We have conclusions after the study of muscular system about large intestine channel of hand yangmyung muscle. 1. Judging from many studies of interrelation between Meridian muscle and muscle. it is considered that Meridian muscle theory has some similarities with modern anatomical muscular system. 2. There is a wide defference betwean myofacial pain syndrome and meridian muscle theory in that the former explains each muscle individually, while the latter classifies muscles systematically in the view of organism. 3. It is considered that large intestine channel of hand yangmyung muscle contains extensor digitorum muscle, extensor muscle of index finger, brachioradialis muscle, triceps brachii muscle, Rhomboid major muscle, trapezius muscle, sternocleidomastoid muscle and muscle levator labii. 4. The symptoms of large intestine channel of hand yangmyung muscle is similar to referred pain of modern Myofacial pain syndrome, and the medical treatment of "I-Tong-Wi-Su" is similar to that of Myofacial pain syndrome.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between counseling skills and Sasang constitutional medicine(SCM). Methods Reviewing the texts relevant to SCM, comparison between counseling skills and the excerpt from the relating books was conducted in terms of the attitude of the counselor, the observation method, the evaluation of the counselee, the relationship between the counselor and counselee, and the counseling method. Results As the attitude of the counselor, many kinds of attitudes and skills including respecting the counselee and reciprocal belief were needed. The excerpt from "Gyeokchigo" meant that the counselor or a doctor should have the virtue of Truth. To evaluate the patient's problems in SCM and the counseling, diet, digestion, and sleep could be asked, but questions about the emotions such as Joy, Anger, Sorrow and Pleasure should be more carefully modified in a modern way, when applying clinical practices. Empathy as the main principle of the counseling could be attributed to the main idea of Dongmu Lee Jema, in which all the people could be in the same status in a natural way reflecting that they like the virtue and dislike the evil. Recommendations of regimen and directives could be followed according to SCM Conclusions Several items of counseling skills and SCM coincide but some of the modern counseling skills are still needed to apply SCM to make the patients with psychiatric problems treated efficiently.

  • Traditional Medicine (TM) is called as philosophical medicine in Korea. An unified theory named as Sihnsang-hanron (SSHR) was hypothesized through studies of scientific analyses on various theories of TM. SSHR has extracted seven concepts which are six common ones from the great three books (三大原典) and the Logic of Laotzu & Chuangtzu (老莊思想). Six common concepts are the affecting by cold (傷寒), qi (氣), cold or heat (寒熱), exterior & interior of body (表裏), deficiency or excessiveness (虛實), and yin & yang (陰陽). We have tried to apply these seven concepts to Physics and Life Science. The affecting by cold means anti-sunlight and the origin of all diseases. The difference between TM and modern medical science would be in diagnostic methods as well as their theoretical analyses for various diseases. The modern science follows Haeckel's positive dialectics applied by the biological monism, and oriental one(SSHR) does Yin-Yang monism from the studies of Logic of Laotzu (老子) & Chuangtzu (莊子). SSHR would make the theory of exterior & interior of body (表裏論) and six channels (六經) develope scientifically as a diagnostic technique of disease. This theory is an excellent one that can't be found out in modern medical science, and so it should be developed as a scientific theory by using modern mechanic instrument. Chuangtzu asserted that ai was the basic substance of the universe. It is hypothesized that qi (氣) is like small particles -higgs, with dynamic power in modern Physics. We consider cautiously qi could be calculated by mathematics through higgs' bosons in near future.

  • Objectives : The inclusion of Korean Medicine in the national health care system led to the need of a serious discussion on its modernization. This paper looked at how these discussions were progressed. Especially, a difference in the meaning of 'science' in the 1950s and the 1990s was observed. Methods : Articles related to the medical dispute between Korean and Western Medicine in "EE LIM", especially the ones from the 1950s, were selected, classified and analyzed. Research papers on Evidence-Based Medicine were also analyzed. Evidence-Based Medicine was a new medical research methodology in the 1990s. Articles on Evidence-Based Medicine were searched and selected from journal databases: DBpia, KISS, RISS, and OASIS. Results : The problem of establishment of modernity of Korean Medicine in the recent times was addressed in the context of scientification and systematization. Accordingly, the academic societies of Korean Medicine aimed for scientification. But efforts to secure the identity of Korean Medicine opposed to western science were also made. Meanwhile, Evidence-Based Medicine established in 1992 presented a different concept of science. This led to a new means of acknowledgement of Korean Medicine in the modern society. Conclusions : The modernization process of Korean Medicine up to now was a course of scientification. But as this process did not fully reflect its characteristics, the modernization of Korean Medicine still remains a pending question. A modern study methodology that fully reflects the identity of Korean Medicine needs to be established.

  • Objectives: "Exploring the origin of acupuncture medicine (針灸逢源)", a classical title of acupuncture medicine in the 19th century, has been reviewed with focus on its impact on the standardization of acupoint in the history of acupuncture medicine as an approach of yin-yang balancing medicine like the Temporomandibular joint Balancing Medicine. Methods: A narrative review of literature was performed with a focus on continuous development and revision of the knowledge system of acupuncture medicine in medical education and clinical application. Results: This title has provided a systematized knowledge on acupoint-acupuncutre including 361 acupoints, acupoint location, and acupoint-meridian association, which was adopted as a frame of core knowledge in modern acupuncture medicine. Critical review and rational reasoning on previously accepted but apparently incongruous strips of knowledge led to the accomplishment of this title. Conclusions: This title provided a revised and standard knowledge system in the field of medical education and clinical practice of acupuncture medicine, and also provided an exemplary model of unrelenting change and development of an approach based on the concept of yin-yang balance such as acupuncture medicine and the Temporomandibular joint Balancing Medicine.

  • Objectives : In Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, herbal medicinal preparations are defined as medicines made by Korean medicine principles. But in Act, Korean medicine principles are vague. Thus, there is a request to explain what the Korean medicine principles are. The aim of this study is to suggest implications of Korean medicine principles in definition of herbal medicinal preparations. Methods : With regard for definition of Korean medicine principles, we referred to the domestic and foreign regulations and literature about the history of herbal medicinal preparations. As a result, the meaning of Korean medicine principles was historically examined from various angles. Results : Through this study, we studied the Korean medicine principles from the past medical history. Due to the broad definition of Korean medicinal principles, we tried to extract general ideas of medicine principles first. We also found that we had scientific formulations based on korean medicine principles which could be used in modern society. In the end, we found that numerous medicine principles which include ‘Four qi and five flavors theory’, ‘Processing of medicinals’, ‘Yin and yang theory’, ‘Five phases theory’, ‘Meridian entry of viscera and bowels theory’, ‘Herb Couplet Interaction theory’, ‘Sovereign, minister, assistant and courier theory’, etc. Conclusions : Innumerable principles used from the past existed. These principles were broad and could be used as modern scientific principles. Based on these facts, we illustrated details of Korean medicine principles, hope this principles be widely shared and Korean herbal medicinal preparations be further developed.

Nevertheless, in Ethiopia, it is renowned as an insect repellent to drive-away insect vector of diseases, particularly mosquitoes in the early evening. However, there are many more issues and challenges which must be urgently addressed to scientifically formulate various potent, efficacious, safe and highly selective phytotherapeutic agents and insects' repellent from the Tinjute plant in the near future.
