In this study, the model cognition level of high school science-gifted students about the two types of acid-base models taught in secondary schools was analyzed. In order to find out the model cognition level of students, 12 items were developed based on the acid-base reaction and the dissociation reaction of acids and bases. The subjects of the study were 95 students of two science-gifted schools. As a result of the questionnaire analysis, model cognition levels were analyzed 6 levels in the context of consistency, inconsistency, and unexplainable scope of the two models. In the acid-base reaction item, the largest percentage of students cognized only understanding of the two models. In the acid-base dissociation reaction item, they understood the two models and perceived the 'Known Ignorance' that cognizes the limitations of one model. However, there was only one student who perceived the limitations of both models and all of the 'Unknown Ignorance' that the model could not explain. Through this, we argued that there is a need for educational efforts to raise the model cognition level of science-gifted students.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the cognition level and the performance level of universal precautions on blood-borne infections and to analyze related-factors on the performance level for universal precautions among the nurses. Method: A total of 166 nurses participated in the survey. We performed multiple linear regression to assess the related-factors on the performance level for universal precautions. Result: The mean scores of cognition and performance level for universal precautions were 65.61(${\pm}8.74$) and 53.98(${\pm}8.42$) respectively. The mean score of the cognition level was significantly lower than the performance level in all items. The cognition level was associated with the working field. The performance level was highest for nurses working over 36 years, nurses in university hospitals, and nurses in the operating room. The cognitive level for universal precautions, education level, exposure to blood-borne infection, family's income, and marital status significantly predicted the performance level for universal precautions in the multiple linear regression model (Adjusted $R^2=0.42$). Conclusion: The cognition level for universal precautions is the strongest predictor on the performance level for universal precautions. An integrated approach should incorporate training experiences to improve cognition and perception of risk on universal precautions for preventing blood-borne infections.
The purpose of this study is to obtain basic data for constructing a modeling practice program integrated with meta-modeling knowledge by analyzing the cognition level for each meta-modeling knowledge components through modeling practice in the context of the chemistry discipline content. A chemistry teacher conducted inquiry-based modeling practice including anomalous phenomena for 16 students in the second year of a science gifted school, and in order to analyze the cognition level for each of the three meta-modeling knowledge components such as model variability, model multiplicity, and modeling process, the inquiry notes recorded by the students and observation note recorded by the researcher were used for analysis. The recognition level was classified from 0 to 3 levels. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the cognition level of the modeling process was the highest and the cognition level of the multiplicity of the model was the lowest. The cause of the low recognitive level of model variability is closely related to students' perception of conceptual models as objective facts. The cause of the low cognitive level of model multiplicity has to do with the belief that there can only be one correct model for a given phenomenon. Students elaborated conceptual models using symbolic models such as chemical symbols, but lacked recognition of the importance of data interpretation affecting the entire modeling process. It is necessary to introduce preliminary activities that can explicitly guide the nature of the model, and guide the importance of data interpretation through specific examples. Training to consider and verify the acceptability of the proposed model from a different point of view than mine should be done through a modeling practice program.
Models for human cognition currently discussed in cognitive science cannot be appropriate ones. The symbolic model of the traditional artificial intelligence works for reasoning and problem-solving tasks, but doesn't fit for pattern recognition such as letter/sound cognition. Connectionism shows the contrary phenomena to those of the traditional artificial intelligence. Connectionist systems has been shown to be very strong in the tasks of pattern recognition but weak in most of logical tasks. Brooks' situated action theory denies the. notion of representation which is presupposed in both the traditional artificial intelligence and connectionism and suggests a subsumption model which is based on perceptions coming from real world. However, situated action theory hasn't also been well applied to human cognition so far. In emphasizing those characteristics of models I refer those models 'left-brain model', 'right-brain model', and 'robot model' respectively. After I examine those models in terms of substantial items of cognitions- mental state, mental procedure, basic element of cognition, rule of cognition, appropriate level of analysis, architecture of cognition, I draw three arguments of embodiment. I suggest a way of unifying those existing models by examining their theoretical compatability which is found in those arguments.
The objective of this study consists on clarifying what factors are influenced upon skin care behavior using fender's Health Promotion Model, widely used to anticipate practices of health care behavior for women with keen interest in skin care and then manifesting their correlations from July 1 to August 22, 1998, on 159 women interested in skin care. A subvariable included practice of skin care behavior and independent variables include general characteristics, health fitness, the level of agreement with the advantages of the perceived skin care behavior, the level of cognition of the necessity for skin care behavior The data collected processed with ANOVA and multiple regression analysis to clarify what factors among other independent variables have the most powerful effects upon skin care. The resultant findings were revealed, as follows : 1. In health care behavior among skin care behavior,'full ingestion of water' represented the highest value by 3.45 points, 2. The testees of this study had for the most part a higher level of cognition for the necessity for skin care behavior than for practice of skin care behavior. The more points they have for cognition of the necessity for skin care behavior, the more points they present for practice of skin care behavior. 3. From the perspective of the relationship between sociometic factors on the testees and their skin care behavior, the higher level married women were on (p<0.05) and the more points they have for economic status, the higher points were reflected . 4. The correlations between the testees' recognition or perception factors and points for practice of skin health state showed the higher points than the group who thought that they did not know their own skin health state (p<0.05). The higher the points of skin care fitness (p<0.0001), the higher the points of self-awareness (p<0.0001) 5. The factors that had the most powerful influence upon cognition and practice of women's skin care behavior were found, with statistical significance, to be adjustable factors such as age, smoking, drinking habit, economic status, etc. and points of cognition of the necessity for skin care behavior.
This paper presents a new learning model, "BoX(Battle of X)", which is based on a concept from the culture of B-Boys who enjoy the race of "distributed cognition" to win in their contests. The "battle" means a contest and "X" means a course to which our learning model can be applied. The goal of this paper is to present a learning model that allow students to be in a state of learning-flow and provides them with the ability of creative problem solving simultaneously. The key of the "BoX" implementation is to design a principle that controls contests between students to maximize distributed cognitive activities for reducing individual's cognitive load. This paper also presents how-to of "BoX" implementation and its effects. Through the analysis on learning achievement of students during one year course of IT education, we have confirmed that the "BoX" model provides students with higher learning achievement and learning-flow level in comparison with traditional learning model.

PURPOSE: Social participation is essential for stroke survivors. Although participation restrictions are affected by several factors, a few studies have focused on the effects of living in a particular residential area (urban versus rural) on the participation restrictions after a stroke. This study examined the factors affecting participation restrictions in stroke survivors according to the residential area. METHODS: One hundred sixty-six stroke patients (including 130 living in urban areas and 36 living in rural areas) were recruited for this study. The Korean Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI) was used to assess the activities of daily living (ADL). The Korean Mini-Mental Examination Status (MMSE-K) was used to assess cognition. The motor function was evaluated using the Fugl-Meyer function assessment (FMA). Path analysis was used to test the hypothesized model of participation restriction. RESULTS: The proposed path model showed good fit indices. In rural and urban areas, the direct effects were significant between the ADL and participation restrictions (β = -.673 and -.457, respectively). For urban areas, the direct effects were significant between cognition and participation restrictions (β = -.252). In both area types, motor function and cognition had a significant direct effect on the ADL. CONCLUSION: For urban community-dwelling stroke survivors, the ADL and cognition had direct effects on participation restrictions. For rural area stroke survivors, the ADL had direct effects on participation restrictions. Activity level exercise programs help reduce the participation restrictions. Moreover, it is essential to address cognition training to improve participation in urban community-dwelling stroke survivors.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of appearance management cognition on attitude toward appearance management and the effect of this attitude on appearance management behavior. It also examines how demographic factors affect these relationships. This study gave a questionnaire survey to adults between the ages of 40 and 50 in Seoul, Daegu, and Ulsan, South Korea. Data collected from 368 respondents were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. The study model was tested by structural equation modeling, the results of which revealed a positive effect of appearance management cognition on attitude toward appearance management and a positive effect of attitude toward appearance management on appearance management behavior. The results of t-testing showed that there were significant differences in cognition, attitude, and behavior toward appearance management by gender, age, educational level, and income.
This study analyzed the level of chemistry teachers' cognition related to two types of acid-base models taught in secondary schools. For the purpose, a questionnaire was developed to identify teachers' cognitions based on previous studies that analyzed the 'Ignorance' of each model. The questionnaire consisted of two items, one related to acid and base reactions and one related to acid and base dissociation, which suggested inconsistencies between the two models. The subjects were 15 chemistry teachers, and as a result, teachers' cognitions were analyzed at four levels. The four levels are: if they don't know the two models, if they only understand one model, if they understand the two models, and perceived the 'Ignorance' of one model, and if they understand the two models and perceived the 'Ignorance' of the two models. The largest proportion of teachers understood the two models and perceived the 'Ignorance' of one model. However, the proportion of understanding the two models and perceiving the 'Ignorance' of the two models was very small. Through this, we argued that efforts to increase the level of chemistry teachers' cognition of the model and 'Ignorance' were necessary.

All human spatial behavior and psychological stress are affected by the 'Privacy'of each space. This Paper deals with the theoretical review of 'privacy'concept and establishment of 'Privacy Model' that can be a useful design tool. 'Privacy Index(Pl)' model of 10 point scale, which is based on 'Hierarchic system of Privacy' in urban spaces by Chermeyeff and Alexander(1963), was established as a hypothetical model in this study. And'Activity Suitability', based on each hierarchy of primacy level, was investigated at each site to construct the validity of 'Privacy Model'. Total 67 sites were investigated by on.-site questionnaire in 3 types of outdoor spaces, (Park), (Campus), and (Garden) respectively. The major results are as follows; 1. The P7rivacy level of earth spaces, distributed from to in and . and (Groun Private> spaces are dominant In , spaces are dondnant 2, Privacy level, based on , showed higher privacy level than that of . This means the criteria of each privacy level should be modified for more specific space. The . could be derived from the (Activity Suitability) of each space. 3.The cognition of privacy level. by user group, showed no significant difference in dach group by sex, age, education, and job, respectively.
