  • A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and toll.or structures, with irregular cross sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by Kim, D. H. in 1974. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the special orthotropic plates with free edges supported on elastic foundation and with a pair of opposite edges under axial forces is presented. Such plates represent the concrete highway slab and hybrid composite pavement of bridges. The reinforced concrete slab can be assumed as a special orthotropic plate, as a close approximation. The highway slab is supported on elastic foundation, with free boundaries. Sometimes, the pair of edges perpendicular to the traffic direction may be subject to the axial forces. The plate is subject to the concentrated load/loads, in the form of traffic loads, or the test equipments. Any method nay be used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis. Finite difference method is used for this purpose, in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation, the aspect ratio of the plate, and the magnitudes of the axial forces and the concentrated attached mass on the plate, on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.

  • In a Doppler weather radar, high resolution windspeed profile measurements are needed to provide the reliable detection of hazardous weather conditions. For this purpose, the pulse pair method is generally considered to be the most efficient estimator, However, this estimator has some bias errors due to asymmetric spectra and may yield meaningless results in the case of a multimodal return spectrum. Although the poly-pulse pair method can reduce the bias errors of skewed weather spectra, the modes of spectrum may provide more reliable information than the statistical mean for the case of a multimodal or seriously skewed spectrum. Therefore, the idea of relatively simple mode estimator for a weather radar is developed in this paper, Performance simulations show promising results in the detection of hazardous weather conditions.

  • This paper describes a new method of noise-canceling in an instrumentation using a pair of identical Potential Transformers (PT). This method allows us to get reliable signals without any noise, not only on the transmission line, but also on the sensors; even if we do not have a reference noise or a specific noise. In this case "any noise" means normal mode noise (NMN), under a quarter frequency of the switching. We proposed to call this method alternating noise-canceling (ANC). The accuracy of this new method has been verified by experimentations.entations.

  • In turbo-machines operated at high speeds through gear speed increasers a precise coupled analysis of lateral and torsional vibrations is required to achieve highly reliable designs with low vibration and low noise levels, where the vibration coupling is due to the gear pair mesh stiffness. In this paper, applying the generalized coupled lateral-torsional finite element model of a gear pair element, has been analyzed a coupled lateral-torsional vibration of the prototype 800 RT turbo-chiller rotor-bearing system with a bull-pinion gear speed increaser. Results have shown that the coupled torsional natural frequencies have decreased due to the coupling effect of lateral vibration and particularly, the 2nd torsional natural frequency and its mode shape have had big changes. However, changes of lateral vibration characteristics have been noticed only at high lateral whirl natural frequencies above 15,000 rpm.

  • We report on the development of a passively mode-locked near-infrared femtosecond laser with Cr:YAG crystal that operates near room temperature. The laser wavelength could easily be tuned by using only the internal prism pair over 110 nm from 1400 nm to 1510 nm in cw and over about 30 nm in mode-locked operation, respectively Maximum cw output powers of 810 mW were obtained with $1.5 \%$ output coupler for absorbed pump powers of 7.6 W. For compensation of the internal group velocity dispersion, an IR graded prism pair was used. The Cr:YAG laser delivered nearly Fourier-transform limited pulses with a pulse duration as short as 64 fs at 100 MHz repetition rate. In the mode-locked regime, the laser was operating at 1510 nm with a spectral bandwidth of 44 nm. In order to avoid unstable mode-locking and power instabilities, self-built tubes were inserted into the beam path in the resonator and purged with N2 gas. Finally, output powers of the Cr:YAG laser were optimized to 250 mW fer long time stable mode-locked operation.

  • Device-to-device (D2D) communication underlaying cellular networks can bring significate benefits for improving the performance of mobile services. However, it hinges on elaborate resource sharing scheme to coordinate interference between cellular users and D2D pairs. We formulate a joint mode selection, link allocation and power control optimization problem for D2D communication sharing uplink resources in a multi-user cellular network and consider the efficiency and the fairness simultaneously. Due to the non-convex difficulty, we propose a three-step scheme: firstly, we conduct mode selection for D2D pairs based on a minimum distance metric after an admission control and obtain some cellular candidates for them. And then, a cellular candidate will be paired to each D2D pair based on fairness. Finally, we use Lagrangian Algorithm to formulate a joint power control strategy for D2D pairs and their reused cellular users and a closed-form of solution is derived. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithms converge in a short time. Moreover, both the sum rate of D2D pairs and the energy efficiency of cellular users are improved.

  • Applying a general coupled lateral and torsional vibration finite element model of gear pair element, this paper intends to look into in detail the coupled lateral and torsional vibration characteristics of a turbo-chiller rotor bearing system, having a bull-pinion speed increasing gear. Investigations have been carried out systematically by comparing the uncoupled and coupled natural frequencies and their mode shapes upon varying the gear mesh stiffness with considerations on rotating speeds, and also by comparing the strain energies of lateral and torsional vibration modes. Results hale shown that some modes may hale the coupled lateral and torsional mode characteristics as the gear mesh stiffness Increases over a certain value, and moreover that their associated dominant modes may be different from their initial modes, j.e., a certain dominant mode may change from an initial torsional one to a lateral one or from an initial lateral one to a torsional one.

  • This paper represents a forgery attack on new authenticated encryption mode $NAE^{[1]}$ which was proposed at JCCI 2003. NAE is a new authenticated encryption mode which is combined with CFB mode and CTR mode. And it provides confidentiality. In this paper, we show that it is possible to make a valid ciphertext-tag pair only by modifying a ciphertext.

  • In this paper, a low-voltage CMOS squarer and a four-quadrant analog multiplier are presented. It is based on a source-coupled pair and a scaled-floating voltage generator which are modified to work as a voltage squaring and a sum/difference circuits. The proposed squarer/multiplier have been simulated with HSPICE, where -3㏈ bandwidth of 10MHz is achieved. The power consumption is about 0.6㎽, from a ${\pm}$1.5V supply, and the total harmonic distortion is less than 0.7%, with a 1.2V peak-to-peak 1MHz input signal.

  • This paper describes design technique of switched-capacitor 1V delta-sigma modulator. To solve the incomplete switching operation at low voltage, bootstrapping technique is used. For PMOS input pair of 1V operational amplifier, simple common mode level down technique is used. Designed 2nd order single loop modulator has an oversampling ratio of 64 and obtains a peak SNR of 71dB, a dynamic range of 73 dB with the power consumption of 350uW at 1V power supply.
