  • This paper describes the speed-sensorless vector control system of a three-phase induction motor using sliding mode flux/speed observer. The sliding mode observer estimates the rotor speed. The error between the actual and observed currents converges to zero which guarantees the accuracy of the flux observer. The convergence of nonlinear time-varying observer along with the asymptotic stability of the controller was analyzed. To define the control action which maintains the motion on the sliding manifold, an "equivalent control" concept was used. It was simulated and implemented on a sensorless indirect vector drive for 750[W] three-phase induction motor. The simulation and experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed estimation method.

  • We propose the Poynting vector analysis of the air mode in a top-emitting organic light-emitting diode (OLED) by combining the transfer matrix method and dipole source term. The spatial profiles of the time-averaged optical power flow of the air mode are calculated inside and outside the multilayer structure of the OLED with respect to the thickness of the semi-transparent top cathode and capping layer (CPL). We elucidate how the micro-cavity effect controlled by the thickness variation of the semi-transparent top cathode or CPL affects the internal optical power and absorption loss inside the OLED multilayer and the external optical power coupled into the air. When the calculated absorption loss and external power obtained by the proposed Poynting vector and currently-used point dipole models are compared, two calculation results are identical, which demonstrates the validity of the two models.

  • In this paper, traction system for urban transit maglev system is proposed. Using vector control strategy to control magnitude and frequency of output voltage transiently is general. But in case of traction system for railway vehicle, it is impossible that adapt vector control because there is one-pulse mode in a high speed region. So this paper proposes the control strategy using vector control in a low speed region and slip frequency control in a high speed region. And also proposes overmodulation method that makes to change in one-pulse mode softly. The performance of traction system will be verified by simulation results using ACSL.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear controller based on adaptive sliding-mode method which has a sliding surface vector including new boundizing function is proposed and applied to a two-wheeled welding mobile robot (WMR). This controller makes the welding point of WMR achieve tracking a reference point which is moving on a smooth curved welding path with a desired constant velocity. The mobile robot is considered in view of a kinematic model and a dynamic model in Cartesian coordinates. The proposed controller can overcome uncertainties and external disturbances by adaptive sliding-mode technique. To design the controller, the tracking error vector is defined, and then the sliding surface vector including new boundizing function and the adaptation laws are chosen to guarantee that the error vector converges to zero asymptotically. The stability of the dynamic system is shown through the Lyapunov method. In addition, a simple way of measuring the errors by potentiometers is introduced. The simulations and experimental results are shown to prove the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

  • In general, the dynamic analysis with FEM(Finite Element Method) of large structures requires large computer memory space and long computational time. For the purpose of economical dynamic analysis of large structures, most of engineers want to use an efficient solution algorithm. This paper reports the modified CMS(Component Mode Synthesis) method which uses more efficient algorithm than the classical CMS method. In this paper, it is shown that Ritz vector sets can play the role of normal mode vector sets of substurctures in the CMS algorithm. The modified CMS method has good convergence performance compared with that of the classical CMS method.

  • In this paper, some crucial performance characteristics related to the operational reliability of the post-fault Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) rectifiers, such as line current harmonic distortion, Common Mode Voltage (CMV), and current stress on the capacitors, are fully investigated. The aforementioned performance characteristics of post-fault rectifiers are highly dependent on the utilized space vector modulation (SVM) schemes, which are also examined. Detailed analyses of the three most commonly used SVM schemes for post-fault PWM rectifiers are provided, revealing the major differences in terms of the zero vector synthesis approaches. To compare the performances of the three SVM schemes, the operating principles of a post-fault rectifier are presented with various SVM schemes. Using analytical and numerical methods in the time domain, the performances of the line current distortion, common mode voltage and capacitor current are evaluated and compared for each SVM scheme. The proposed analysis demonstrates that the zero vector synthesis approaches of the considered methods have significant impacts on the performance characteristics of rectifiers. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed SVM schemes are discussed. The experimental results verify the effectiveness and validity of the proposed analysis.

  • This paper presents an application of vector control strategy for 1.2MVA IGBT traction drive for electric railway vehicle. The vector control requires the control of the phase and amplitude of output voltage vector[5]. But in case of traction system far railway vehicle, the one-pulse mode is used in order to utilize the link voltage fully[8]. So it is impossible to control the flux axis current and the torque axis current instantaneously and independently. So this paper proposes the vector control strategy with slip-frequency control at one-pulse mode. And precise switching technique between the two different control structures has been proposed. And the strategy was verified by experimental result with 1.2MVA IGBT inverter with four 210㎾ induction motors.

  • Support vector machines have been extensively studied and utilized in pattern recognition area for years. One of interesting applications of this technique is music/speech classification for a standardized codec such as 3GPP2 selectable mode vocoder. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that improves the speech/music classification of support vector machines. While conventional support vector machine optimization techniques apply during training phase, the proposed technique can be adopted in classification phase. In this regard, the proposed approach can be developed and employed in parallel with conventional optimizations, resulting in synergistic boost in classification performance. We first analyze the impact of kernel width parameter on the classifications made by support vector machines. From this analysis, we observe that we can fine-tune outputs of support vector machines with the kernel width parameter. To make the most of this capability, we identify strong correlation among neighboring input frames, and use this correlation information as a guide to adjusting kernel width parameter. According to the experimental results, the proposed algorithm is found to have potential for improving the performance of support vector machines.
