  • Fly ash produced in coal combustion is a fine-grained material consisting mostly of spherical, glassy, and porous particles. A study on the formation mechanism of the fly ash from coal particles in the pulverized coal power plant is investigated with a physical, morphological, and chemical characteristic analysis of fly ash collected from the Samchonpo power plant. This study may contribute to the data base of domestic fly ash, the improvement of combustion efficiency, fouling phenomena and ash collection in the electrostatic precipitator. The physical property of fly ash is determined using a particle counter for the measurement of ash size distribution. Morphological characteristic of fly ash is performed using a scanning electron micrograph. The chemical components of fly ash are determined using an inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry(ICP). The distribution of fly ash size was bi-modal and ranged from 12 to $19{\mu}m$ in mass median diameter. Exposure conditions of flue gas temperature and duration within the combustion zone of the boiler played an important role on the morphological properties of the fly ash such as shape, particle size and chemical components. The evolution of ash formation during pulverized coal combustion has revealed three major mechanisms by large particle formation due to break-up process, gas to particle conversion and growth by coagulation and agglomeration.

  • Existing FPS(Friction Pendulum System) is isolation system which is possible to isolate structures by pendulum characteristic from ground vibration. Structural natural frequency could be decided by designing the radius of curvature of FPS. Thus, response vibration could be reduced by changing natural frequency of structures from FPS. But effective periods of recorded seismic wave were various and estimation of earthquake characteristic could be difficult. If effective periods of seismic wave correspond to natural frequency of structures with FPS, resonance can be occurred. Therefore, CFPBS(Cone-type Friction Pendulum Bearing System) was developed for controlling the response acceleration and displacement by the slope of friction surfaces. Structural natural frequency with CFPBS can be changed according to position of ball on the friction surface which was designed cone-type. Therefore, Divergence of response could be controlled by CFPBS which had constantly changing natural frequency with low modal participation factor in wide-range. In this study, Seismic performance of CFPBS was evaluated by numerical analysis and shaking table test.

  • It is attempted to estimate excitation force of a linear vibratory system using measured vibration responses. The excitation force is estimated from the relationship between the vibration response and system characteristic matrices which are extracted from both the mathematical model of the system and actual response in contrast to the usual approach of inverting the frequency response matrices. This extraction scheme is based on the fact that the vibration response can be expressed in term of linear combination of frequency domain modal vectors defined as mutually orthonormal basis vectors in frequency domain. The extracted frequency domain basis vectors are very stable in computational manipulation. It is found that the estimated excitation force is in good agreement with actually measured force except at the natural frequencies the structure, which is the common feature still to be overcome by the research efforts in this area. From the results of this paper, this disagreement is considered to come from the discrepancy between the model and actual value of the mass, damping and stiffness of the structure.

  • The vibration characteristic is a primary design factor. The cylindrical shells are used as a primary components of complex structure. also, The cylindrical shells have oblique angle. In this study, The vibrational characteristics of steel and plain wave GFRP cylindrical shell with an oblique end are given by experimental and finite element method. To be find characteristic of the oblique end, the mass of the cylindrical shell is maintained. Natural frequency and mode shapes of isotropic and plain weave composite shells are obtained by modal test. The results are compared with those of the finite element method. The simply supported boundary conditions with bolts along the circumferential direction of the GFRP shell are well achieved. Also, The clamped boundary conditions is applied to the steel specimen. Those are shown to agree well with the analytical results and finite element analysis results.

  • Recently, various acoustic artifacts that contains speaker have been produced such as cellular phone. Speaker consists of diaphragm generating sound and coil vibrating diaphragm. Generally, good speaker means that it has a wide frequency range, high output power rate to input power and flat sound pressure level in specified frequency range. Acoustic characteristic was estimated through the experiment and computer simulation, or sound power was controlled with acoustic sensitivity in a natural frequency range fer last decade. However, the flatness of sound pressure level has not been considered to enhance the sound quality of a speaker. Tn this study, a method for speaker design is proposed for a good acoustic characteristic, which is flatness of SPL(sound pressure level) and wideness between the first and second natural frequency. SYSNOISE is used fer acoustic analysis and ANSYS is used for harmonic response analysis and modal analysis. Optimization for acoustic characteristics of a speaker diaphragm is performed using ModelCenter. All analyses are done within a frequency domain. And we confirm that the experimental and computational simulations have similar trend.

  • In this paper, the content to carry out the modal testing and to analyze the data as the target of the main transformer installed on KTX is mentioned. The main transformer for KTX is a structure which is over 10 Ton. For the possibility to occur a stress concentration phenomenon exists, the dynamic durability of the system is experimentally needed to understand. To do this, we obtained the vibration data using an accelerometer, an impact hammer, a measuring instrument and gained the frequency response function of the main transformer based on the acquisition data. In this content, when the theoretical model for structural analysis should be established, we think it will be used for the property verification of analytical model. Also, we expect that the measured and analysed data will offer basic research material to maintain the system and diagnose the condition by monitoring the natural frequency of the main transformer for KTX periodically.

  • Dynamic analysis using impulse responses is formulated to estimate effect of slider rail shape on dynamic responses in near-field optical recording drive. Impulse responses are obtained on numerical nonlinear model including rigid motion of a slider and fluid motion of an air bearing under the slider. Dynamic characteristics of slider motion are evaluated by utilizing the decay ratio of impulse responses and modal frequencies from frequency response functions. The dynamic characteristics of the designed NFR slider are checked by comparing those of a HDD slider(Nutcracker). Also, sensitivities of slider Position conditions and rotation speed on the dynamic characteristics are investigated.

  • The precision positioning system requires robust design to obtain enough bandwidth. Therefore, The sub-resonance occurred by the disaccord of force center and mass center should be oppressed. And it is necessary to move the flexible mode to a higher frequency. In this paper, the 3-axis nano stage was proposed and dynamic characteristics was improved by design of experiments (DOE).

  • This paper presents to predict the powertrain structure-borne noise which is primary resource of interior noise. As the first step, it is built up a hybrid powertrain model which is based on the real powertrain which is verified with static and dynamic properties. The methods for verifying are modal analysis and running vibration testing which are experimentally implemented. Based on the Hybrid powertrain component model, an initial predictive assembly model is simulated. As the second step, the characteristic transfer functions are measured that are dynamic stiffness of rubber mounts and vibro-acoustic transfer function based on the acoustic reciprocity. Several techniques utilizing special experimental devices have been proposed for this research. Finally, the structure-borne noise by powertrain will be predict and verify with dynamic simulation and experiment.

  • The frequency response function(FRF) of each substructure is used for the transfer function synthesis method(TFS). The dynamic characteristics of the full system are obtained by synthesizing FRFs of each substructure. The validation of TFS depends on accuracy for FRF of each substructure. Impact hammer testing is widely used to obtain the modal characteristics of structures. However, the FRF obtained from impact hammer testing contains several errors, such as finite record length error and leakage error of which characteristic depends on data acquisition time which we call record length. In this paper, a method to remove these errors is proposed so as to enhance results of TFS. Numerical examples show that the FRF of full structure can be predicted exactly by the method proposed in this paper.
