  • Mobile phones are the most common communication devices in history. For this reason, the number of mobile subscribers will increase dramatically in the future. Therefore, the determining the location of a mobile station will become more and more difficult. The mobile station must be authenticated to inform the network of its current location even when the user switches it on or when its location is changed. The most basic weakness in the GSM authentication protocol is the unilateral authentication process where the customer is verified by the system, yet the system is not confirmed by the customer. This creates numerous security issues, including powerlessness against man-in-the-middle attacks, vast bandwidth consumption between VLR and HLR, storage space overhead in VLR, and computation costs in VLR and HLR. In this paper, we propose a secure authentication mechanism based new mobility management method to improve the location management in the GSM network, which suffers from a lot off drawbacks, such as transmission cost and database overload. Numerical analysis is done for both conventional and modified versions and compared together. The numerical results show that our protocol scheme is more secure and that it reduces mobility management costs the most in the GSM network.

  • Network Mobility Basic Support (NEMO BS) protocol has been accredited and approved by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) working group for mobility of sub-networks. Trains, aircrafts and buses are three examples of typical applications for this protocol. The NEMO BS protocol was designed to offer Internet access for a group of passengers in a roaming vehicle in an adequate fashion. Furthermore, in NEMO BS protocol, specific gateways referred to Mobile Routers (MRs) are responsible for carrying out the mobility management operations. Unfortunately, the main limitations of this basic solution are pinball suboptimal routing, excessive signaling cost, scalability, packet delivery overhead and handoff latency. In order to tackle shortcomings of triangular routing and Quality of Service (QoS) deterioration, the proposed scheme (Diff-FH NEMO) has previously evolved for end-users in moving network. In this sense, the article focuses on an exhaustive analytic evaluation at Home Agent (HA) entity of the proposed solutions. An investigation has been conducted on the signaling costs to assess the performance of the proposed scheme (Diff-FH NEMO) in comparison with the standard NEMO BS protocol and MIPv6 based Route Optimization (MIRON) scheme. The obtained results demonstrate that, the proposed scheme (Diff-FH NEMO) significantly improves the signaling cost at the HA entity in terms of the subnet residence time, number of mobile nodes, the number of DMRs, the number of LFNs and the number of CNs.

  • System Architecture Evolution (SAE) with Long Term Evolution (LTE) has been used as the key technology for the next generation mobile networks. To support mobility in the LTE/SAE-based mobile networks, the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIP), in which the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) of the PMIP is deployed at the Serving Gateway (S-GW) of LTE/SAE and the Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) of PMIP is employed at the PDN Gateway (P-GW) of LTE/SAE, is being considered. In the meantime, the Host Identity Protocol (HIP) and the Locator Identifier Separation Protocol (LISP) have recently been proposed with the identifier-locator separation principle, and they can be used for mobility management over the global-scale networks. In this paper, we discuss how to provide the inter-domain mobility management over PMIP-based LTE/SAE networks by investigating three possible scenarios: mobile IP with PMIP (denoted by MIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE), HIP with PMIP (denoted by HIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE), and LISP with PMIP (denoted by LISP-PMIP-LTE/SAE). For performance analysis of the candidate inter-domain mobility management schemes, we analyzed the traffic overhead at a central agent and the total transmission delay required for control and data packet delivery. From the numerical results, we can see that HIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE and LISP-PMIP-LTE/SAE are preferred to MIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE in terms of traffic overhead; whereas, LISP-PMIP-LTE/SAE is preferred to HIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE and MIP-PMIP-LTE/SAE in the viewpoint of total transmission delay.

  • In this paper, we propose the enhanced network-based mobility management protocol, called enhanced proxy mobile ipv6 (E-PMIPv6), which can provide mobile nodes (MNs) with a fast and efficient mobility service in PMIPv6 domain. The proposed scheme can provide a fast and efficient mobility service to MNs and also the strength of network scalability and stability to an access network by proposing the dynamic virtual hierarchical network architecture. In addition, the pre-authentication procedure for an MN, based on the information of neighbor mobile access gateway (MAG) list in the enhanced-policy server (E-PS), is proposed to support seamless handover by reducing MN's handover latency. Through performance evaluations of numerical analyses and simulations, we have confirmed and verified the superiority of the proposed scheme compared to the conventional proxy mobile ipv6 (PMIPv6).

  • We propose an advanced transaction scheduling protocol to improve the concurrency and to guarantee the mobility for the mobile database management systems. Mobility, portability, and wireless link In mobile computing environment can cause certain drawbacks, and thus it is more difficult to solve the concurrency control problems. However, a locking scheme should be used to guarantee the data consistency and to prevent the data conflicts. It is well known that data consistency is guaranteed by standard transaction scheduling schemes like two-phase locking (2PL). It has two of operation, lock and unlock. But 2PL does not give solution for mobile system. Altruistic Locking (AL) and classifying transactions, we adapt, can give solution for the previous problems. AL, as an advanced protocol, has attempted to reduce delay effects associated with lock release moment by the use of donation. In this paper, we extend those approaches and classify the transactions to reduce delay effects of short-lived transaction caused by long-lived transaction. In addition, we show efficient solution for the case of disconnection occurrence. Our protocol, namely, Mobile Altruistic Locking (MAL) is shown to be efficiently used in order to reduce delay effects and to guarantee database consistency in a state of the slippery connection in mobile database systems.

  • In the future Network Centric Warfare(NCW), changing to IPv6 based network environment is required to enable various future technologies such as the Internet of Things(IoT) and cloud technology which are expected to be introduced to the tactical network evolution. With the change to the IPv6 network, an ID/LOC(Identifier/Location) separation protocol that decomposes context of the IP address to location and identifier can enhance network capacity of increasing number of device and provide efficient mobility management in the tactical network that changes topology dynamically. In this paper, we choose ILNP(Identifier-Locator Network Protocol) as an ID/LOC separation for tactical network environment. In addition to ILNP-based tactical network design, this paper proposes a network-based mobility management scheme for providing efficient mobility management. Through numerical performance analysis, we show that the proposed scheme can reduce network loads more effectively than the conventional IP-based mobility management scheme and common handover procedure in ILNP.

  • In a wireless mesh network, there are two types of nodes: mesh routers and mesh clients. These two contradistinct network entities will be characterized and modeled depending on their role in the network. Mesh routers are essentially not mobile unlike the mesh clients. The differences on these nodes should be noted in any protocol design. In this paper, we present a mobility management for wireless mesh network (WMN). This mobility management handles movement of wireless mesh clients as it leaves from a coverage area of a wireless mesh router to another. We consider signaling overhead and mobility as performance metrics.

  • Nowadays, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely adopted in structural health monitoring (SHM) systems for social overhead capital (SOC) public infrastructures. Structural health information, environmental disturbances and sudden changes of weather conditions, damage detections, and external load quantizing are among the capabilities required of SHM systems. These information requires an efficient transmission with which an efficient mobility management support for wireless networks can provide. This paper deals with the analysis of mobility management schemes in order to address the real-time requirement of data traffic delivery for critical SHM information. The host-based and network-based mobility management protocols have been identified and the advantages of network mobility (NEMO) enabled Proxy Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (PMIPv6) have been leveraged in order to address the SHM information transmission needs. The scheme allows an efficient information transmission as it improves the handover performance due to shortened handover latency as well as reduced signaling overhead.

  • IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)의 MVPN(Mobile Virtual Private Network) 은 NEMO(NEtwork MObility)를 지원하도록 설계되어 있지 않기 때문에 실시간 응용에 적합하지 않다. 따라서 안전한 NEMO에서 VPN을 지원하는 아키텍처와 프로토콜이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 VPN 환경에서 실시간 응용을 위해 설계된, SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)에 기반한 CR-SeMMS(Cost-Reduced Secure Mobility Management Scheme) 시스템을 제안한다. HOTP(HMAC based One Time Password)
