Evaluating the Usability of Size Comparison UI for Online Clothing Shopping Malls

  • As mobile device usage time increases thanks to the development of information and communication alongside the increase in the spread of smartphones, mobile shopping has become a common trend. While mobile shopping has the advantage of saving both time and money, it may also result in dissatisfaction with product differences after purchase. For online clothing shopping malls, in particular, if the size does not match after purchase, it is difficult for customers to return or exchange the goods. To address this problem, some mobile apparel shipping malls offer a virtual fitting service and a size comparison function; however, the number of such malls remains low. In this paper, a usability evaluation was performed on a mobile apparel shopping mall that provides a size comparison function. The three apps selected for evaluation have different size input methods, and a slightly different method of providing results after comparing the user's dimensions with the dimensions of the clothes to be purchased. In this paper, the evaluators were asked to select clothes at the shopping mall and perform the task of deciding the size of the clothes to be purchased through their own measurements and comparison while also evaluating the effectiveness, meaning, and satisfaction of the apps. Based on the analysis of the results, this paper aims to produce an improvement plan and help design the size comparison UI (User Interface) in the future.

  • The user interface is an important factor in providing efficient services to application users. In particular, mobile applications that can be executed anytime and anywhere have a higher priority of usability than applications in other domains.Previous studies have used prototype and storyboard methods to improve the usability of applications. However, this approach has limitations in continuously identifying and improving the usability problems of a particular application. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a usability analysis method using touch gesture data. It could identify and improve the UI / UX problem of the application continuously by grasping the intention of the user after the application is distributed.

OverIT: An Interactive Overlay for Touchscreen-based UI Customization by Demonstration

  • Smartphones have been widely used for various purposes and stay connected with people at all times. However, the use of such touchscreen devices can be physically restricted depending on users' context where only one hand is available to interact with the device. Even major smartphone manufacturers (e.g., Apple, Samsung) offer one handed mode, they still lack functions in the third-party applications, and the process is also complicated. We propose OverIT, a system that enables users to customize interfaces by adding new buttons on an interactive overlay which can be positioned anywhere on the touchscreen where each button serves the same functionality as an existing one. It is designed to support users to map a certain button event freely and easily to a newly created button by performing a demonstration of a button tap. We expect our system to improve the overall user experience of one-handed interaction with touchscreen devices.

Development of User Interface for High Frequency Digital Oscilloscope based on Python (파이썬기반 고주파 디지털 계측기 사용자 인터페이스 개발)

  • Recently, with the development of mobile communication technologies such as 5G, interest in oscilloscope technology based on high bandwidth and user-friendly UI is increasing. In this paper, we proposed a Python-based UI(user interface) SW for a high-bandwidth digital oscilloscope in connection with the study of a 13GHz band digital oscilloscope system. The proposed UI SW is designed not only to be executed integrally with the oscilloscope, but also to be run on a separate PC or laptop cooperating with the instrument through WiFi communication. Functions of the UI SW consists of displaying and analyzing signal data, storing signal data in an external storage device, generating test signal data, and reconfiguring the toolbar. Finally, we have shown that the proposed digital oscilloscope system operates normally by interworking test with the signal generator.

  • Vector Graphics describes an image with mathematical statements instead of pixel information, Which enables easy scalability without loss in image quality and usually results in a much smaller file size compared with bitmap images. In this paper, we propose Vector Graphics Rasterizer for mobile device with scan-line edge flag algorithm. Proposed Vector Graphics Accelerator was verified with OpenVG 2D Vector image. The estimated performance of proposed Accelerator is 5 frame per second with Tiger image.

  • Recently, sudden interests of mobile cloud computing as well as conventional internet environment are rapidly increased as cloud computing spread out in our web society. Mobile devices including smart phone are rapidly changing in a wholesale way that covers hardwares, applications, and services. However, the Internet access using mobile device is not quite smooth in this local mobile internet environment which suffers from lack of understanding and observance of Web Standards. Although most of domestic web sites are developed focusing on various functions and eye-catching designs, this should became one of the main factors that make the usability and accessability decrease when accessing web with smart phones or table PCs. Therefore, this paper suggested a web interface that considered usability and accessability under mobile cloud environment and we tried to prove it via usability test. It could be found that there was an improvement of usability of interface of the main page that has been optimized to the mobile device environment suggested from the previous research we present, but this paper aimed to prove a usability improvement of total website as a whole by performing the usability test on the entire website. Selecting a special website optimized for mobile cloud computing, we prove an improvement of usability and accessibility. Therefore, we offer a guideline about user interface design applications to developers or companies who want to construct mobile website.

  • This study is based on big big data base for real-time collection/analysis/processing of data, creative analysis of data assets, and intelligent processing system based on IoT, which can measure distribution phase in real time. The mobile terminal uses the SDK of the provided device to measure the data information on the consumption of specific seafood production and distribution. We use the oneM2M protocol to store various kinds of information needed for seafood production, and implement a DB Server and a system that allows the administrator to manage the system using the UI.

Context Adaptive User Interface Generation in Ubiquitous Home Using Bayesian Network and Behavior Selection Network (베이지안 네트워크와 행동 선택 네트워크를 이용한 유비쿼터스 홈에서의 상황 적응적 인터페이스 생성)

  • Recently, we should control various devices such as TV, audio, DVD player, video player, and set-top box simultaneously to manipulate home theater system. To execute the function the user want in this situation, user should know functions and positions of the buttons in several remote controllers. Normally, people feel difficult due to these realistic problems. Besides, the number of the devices that we can control shall increase, and people will confuse more if the ubiquitous home environment is realized. Therefore, user adaptive interface that provides the summarized functions is required. Moreover there can be a lot of mobile and stationary controller devices in ubiquitous computing environment, so user interface should be adaptive in selecting the functions that user wants and in adjusting the features of UI to fit in specific controller. To implement the user and controller adaptive interface, we modeled the ubiquitous home environment and used modeled context and device information. We have used Bayesian network to get the degree of necessity in each situation. Behavior selection network uses predicted user situation and the degree of necessity, and it selects necessary functions in current situation. Selected functions are used to construct adaptive interface for each controller using presentation template. For experiments, we have implemented ubiquitous home environment and generated controller usage log in this environment. We have confirmed the BN predicted user requirements effectively as evaluating the inferred results of controller necessity based on generated scenario. Finally, comparing the adaptive home UI with the fixed one to 14 subjects, we confirmed that the generated adaptive UI was more useful for general tasks than fixed UI.

  • 1990 년대부터 본격적으로 시작된 국내 휴대폰의 역사는 불과 10 년 사이에 전체 인구 중 3600 만명 이상의 가입자가 휴대폰을 사용하고 있는 모바일 강국으로 발전하였다. 국내 이동통신사들의 다양한 서비스 전략과 단말 제조사들의 다양한 기술의 발전으로 휴대폰은 단순한 전화기능만을 담당하는 커뮤니케이션 디바이스(Communication Device)에서 다양한 VOD, AOD 서비스들의 도입으로 엔터테인먼트 디바이스(Entertainment Device)로 발전했고, DMB, TV, MP3, 카메라 등 다양한 디바이스들이 결합된 컨버전스 기능성 기기(Functional Device)로 발전해 가고 있다. 이런 과정에서 사용자들은 휴대폰에서 다양한 경험을 하게 된다. 본 연구는 다양한 매체와 디바이스가 결합 된 모바일 환경 속에서 이동통신사와 제조사의 관점에서 분석한 자료를 바탕으로 하나의 통합된 경험을 사용자들에게 제공할 수 있는 방법을 고찰해 보고자 한다. 휴대폰을 만드는 제조업체가 수행하는 경험 디자인은 이동통신사에 상관없이, 자사의 경험 통일성(identity)을 강조하게 되고, 이동통신사는 제조업체와 상관없이 자사의 경험 통일성을 강조하게 된다. 통일성 뿐만 아니라 기능이나 직무(task)의 중요성도 다르기 때문에 경험 디자인을 위한 우선순위도 다르게 된다. 이것의 결과는 모두 사용자가 떠 앉게 된다. 즉 사용자의 경험이 복잡해지게 되고 이것은 장기적으로 제조업체 및 이동통신사 모두에게 불이익을 주게 된다. 본 논문에서는 제조사와 이통사를 위한 사용자 경험 모형을 세웠고, 각 요소별로 접근 방법의 차이에 대해 논의를 하였다. 사용자가 휴대폰 경험에서 혼돈을 적게 하기 위해서는 제조사와 이통사의 인터랙션은 서로 일관성이 있어야 하고, 스타일 부문에서는 서로간의 입장차이가 좁히기 쉽지 않으므로 둘 다 사용자의 선택의 폭을 넓혀주는 방향으로 진행을 한다. 기획단계에서 부터 협력을 함으로써 양사의 갭을 줄일 수 있다.
