Using Mobile Data Collectors to Enhance Energy Efficiency a nd Reliability in Delay Tolerant Wireless Sensor Networks

  • A primary task in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is data collection. The main objective of this task is to collect sensor readings from sensor fields at predetermined sinks using routing protocols without conducting network processing at intermediate nodes, which have been proved as being inefficient in many research studies using a static sink. The major drawback is that sensor nodes near a data sink are prone to dissipate more energy power than those far away due to their role as relay nodes. Recently, novel WSN architectures based on mobile sinks and mobile relay nodes, which are able to move inside the region of a deployed WSN, which has been developed in most research works related to mobile WSN mainly exploit mobility to reduce and balance energy consumption to enhance communication reliability among sensor nodes. Our main purpose in this paper is to propose a solution to the problem of deploying mobile data collectors for alleviating the high traffic load and resulting bottleneck in a sink's vicinity, which are caused by static approaches. For this reason, several WSNs based on mobile elements have been proposed. We studied two key issues in WSN mobility: the impact of the mobile element (sink or relay nodes) and the impact of the mobility model on WSN based on its performance expressed in terms of energy efficiency and reliability. We conducted an extensive set of simulation experiments. The results obtained reveal that the collection approach based on relay nodes and the mobility model based on stochastic perform better.

  • These days rapid improvement in Mobile phones and their multimedia limits made them powerful enough to manage complicated tasks. Image processing related support for mobile devices is extremely comprehensive in wireless telemedicine. A basic challenge is how to get best quality of image with the limited screen size and resources of mobile phones. This paper deals with image processing features (capturing rendering and zooming in and out) of Mobile Media API and Advanced Multimedia Supplements (MMAPI and AMS) developed for Mobile Java Platform and customized algorithm is designed to keep all image task cost efficient by using minimum device resources and memory. This scenario is driven by the need for evaluation of a distant patient that cannot be moved to the expert.

  • Growth in the device field is driven by various emerging devices, tablet PC are among the most recognizable. Tablet PC are mobile computing devices enabled with touch screens or pen inputs and provide the functions of various other devices. Firms are interested in utilization of tablet PC on task. Many of firms is considering accepting of tablet PC and is looking forward to performance of tablet PC. Thus, this study propose to discuss strategies for the usage of tablet PC from organizational needs perspective. The goal of this study is to identify factors influencing use of tablet PC and task performance. The results of this study showed that the proposed factors of organizational needs with a exception of Service Flexibility had a positive impact on perceived usefulness that then positively affected Usage of Tablet PC and Task Performance. In addition, perceived task-technology fit had a positive impact on perceived usefulness and Usage of Tablet PC. Finally, Innovative Culture of Organization as a moderating effect significantly influenced the relationship between perceived usefulness, perceived Task-Technology Fit and Usage of Tablet PC. This study is expected to be a reference for a subsequent study associated with Tablet PC at organizational viewpoints.

  • Selection of a suitable task from the extensively available large set of tasks is an intricate job for the developers in crowdsourcing software development (CSD). Besides, it is also a tiring and a time-consuming job for the platform to evaluate thousands of tasks submitted by developers. Previous studies stated that managerial and technical aspects have prime importance in bringing success for software development projects, however, these two aspects can be more effective and conducive if combined with human aspects. The main purpose of this paper is to present a conceptual framework for task assignment model for future research on the basis of personality types, that will provide a basic structure for CSD workers to find suitable tasks and also a platform to assign the task directly. This will also match their personality and task. Because personality is an internal force which whittles the behavior of developers. Consequently, this research presented a Task Assignment Model (TAM) from a developers point of view, moreover, it will also provide an opportunity to the platform to assign a task to CSD workers according to their personality types directly.

An Offloading Strategy for Multi-User Energy Consumption Optimization in Multi-MEC Scene

  • Mobile edge computing (MEC) is capable of providing services to smart devices nearby through radio access networks and thus improving service experience of users. In this paper, an offloading strategy for the joint optimization of computing and communication resources in multi-user and multi-MEC overlapping scene was proposed. In addition, under the condition that wireless transmission resources and MEC computing resources were limited and task completion delay was within the maximum tolerance time, the optimization problem of minimizing energy consumption of all users was created, which was then further divided into two subproblems, i.e. offloading strategy and resource allocation. These two subproblems were then solved by the game theory and Lagrangian function to obtain the optimal task offloading strategy and resource allocation plan, and the Nash equilibrium of user offloading strategy games and convex optimization of resource allocation were proved. The simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm could effectively reduce the energy consumption of users.

  • Material information for environment may be useful to accomplish mobile robot localization. A procedure to classify a set of indoor materials (glass, steel, wood, aluminum and concrete) with the reflected signal of ultrasonic sensor is proposed in this paper. The main idea is to use material-specific reflection characteristics for the recognition of material type. To achieve the classification task, we modeled reflected signal as a maximum amplitude with respect to distance. In this way, we can generate echo signal models for the given materials and these models are used to compare with the current sensor reading. The experimental results show that the proposed method may give material information during map building task of mobile robot.

A Reinforcement learning-based for Multi-user Task Offloading and Resource Allocation in MEC

  • Mobile edge computing (MEC), which enables mobile terminals to offload computational tasks to a server located at the user's edge, is considered an effective way to reduce the heavy computational burden and achieve efficient computational offloading. In this paper, we study a multi-user MEC system in which multiple user devices (UEs) can offload computation to the MEC server via a wireless channel. To solve the resource allocation and task offloading problem, we take the total cost of latency and energy consumption of all UEs as our optimization objective. To minimize the total cost of the considered MEC system, we propose an DRL-based method to solve the resource allocation problem in wireless MEC. Specifically, we propose a Asynchronous Advantage Actor-Critic (A3C)-based scheme. Asynchronous Advantage Actor-Critic (A3C) is applied to this framework and compared with DQN, and Double Q-Learning simulation results show that this scheme significantly reduces the total cost compared to other resource allocation schemes

Hierarchical Mobile IP에서 라우터기반 바인딩 업데이트 방법을 이용한 네트워크 이동성 지원 (Network Mobility Support Using Router-based Binding Update Scheme in Hierarchical Mobile IP)

  • IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)에서 IP망에서 이동성 지원을 위해 Mobile 1Pv6(M1Pv6)를 시작으로 Hierarchical MlPv6(HMIPv6) 등을 제안하였지만, 이러한 클라이언트 기반 이동성 지원 연구들은 이동성 지원 메시지 전송을 위한 무선자원 낭비와 긴 핸드오버 지연 등을 야기함으로 인해 주목을 받지 못하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 클라이언트 기반 이동성 지원 기술의 문제점 해결을 위해 Router-based Binding Update(RBU) 방법을 제안한다. RBU 방법은 기존 HMIPv6에서 단말기에 추가 구현없이 Neighbor Discovery 프로토콜을 통해 라우터가 Mobility Anchor Point(MAP)에 위치등록을 한다. 이와 같은 방법을 통하여 RBU 방법은 부분적인 네트워크 기반 이동성을 지원하며 HMIPv6에 비해 핸드오버 시간을 줄일 수 있도록 설계 되었다. 제안방안의 성능검증을 위해 기존 HMlPv6와 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과 RBU 방법이 HMlPv6에 비해 매크로 도메인 핸드오버에 대해 지연시간이 최대 약 15% 줄어들며 특히 무선링크 지연이 큰 경우 좋은 성능을 보인다.

  • 인터넷은 이미 대중화되어 있으며, 이러한 인터넷 망을 기초로 한 All-IP 망으로의 망 진화에 대한 논의가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 또한 현재 상용중인 IPv4에 이동성을 부여한 이동 인터넷(Mobile IPv4)에 대한 연구는 IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)를 중심으로 활발하게 진행 중에 있으며, 이에 대한 구현 및 개발은 이미 많은 연구단체에서 많은 성과를 보여주고 있다. 본 논문에서는 3세대 이동통신 모델 중의 하나인 CDMA2000 1x 환경에서 기 구현된 Wire-less LAN에서의 이동 인터넷(Mobile IPv4)을 연동하여, 이기종 망(Heterogeneous Network)에서의 이동 인터넷(Mobile Ipv4) 모델을 제시한다. 제시된 이동 인터넷(Mobile IPv4) 프로토콜은 Layer-2망으로서 Wireless LAN과 CDMA2000 1x을 모두 사용하며, 하부 망(Layer-2 Network)의 변화에 능동적으로 반응하여, 통신을 유지한다.

확률기반 상위수준 컨텍스트 인식기를 활용한 라이프로그 태깅 인터페이스 (A Lifelog Tagging Interface using High Level Context Recognizer based on Probability)

  • 모바일 디바이스의 발전으로 이를 이용하여 개인의 일상정보를 지속적으로 수집할 수 있게 되었다. 하지만 모바일 환경에서 수집한 개인의 일상정보는 그 양이 매우 방대하고, 모바일 환경의 불확실성과 모바일 디바이스의 제한된 용량과 배터리 등의 제약사항이 있어 수집한 일상정보가 불확실하다는 문제점이 있다. 위의 문제점을 극복하고, 일상정보를 효과적으로 관리하기 위해서는 검색성을 갖는 특징정보를 이용하여 태깅하는 작업이 요구된다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 상위수준 컨텍스트 인식기를 활용한 태깅 인터페이스를 이용하여 보다 정확한 특징정보를 태깅하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 일상정보의 특징정보인 상위수준 컨텍스트를 베이지안 네트워크로 모델링한 인식기로 추출한 후, 인식한 상위수준 컨텍스트를 태깅 인터페이스를 이용하여 사용자에게 추천하고, 사용자는 추천된 상위 수준 컨텍스트를 선별하여 일상정보에 직접 태깅할 수 있는 것이 특징이다. 제안하는 태깅 인터페이스는 사용성, 목표성, 기능성, 주도성 측면에서 작업지원수준을 평가한 결과 81%의 만족도를 보임을 확인하였다.
