  • The development of the latest media technology has changed the traditional broadcasting system. The traditional broadcasting system, which was operated by the mass media and the terrestrial broadcasters, is now transformed to the viewer-centered and bidirectional media through the convergence of internet and mobile. In terms of broadcasting environment, the function of the traditional TVs has been changed to the Smart TVs combined with an open platform which not only deliver visual contents, but also supply various applications and additional information linking the content providers and viewers. This ongoing broadcasting environmental change has made it possible for viewers to participate in the programs such as reality shows or sports events through SNS, texting or phone calls. Therefore, the purpose of this experiment is to present the ways to promote easier and more convenient viewer-participation in the programs by applying mobile messenger to existing broadcasting system in order to enhance the involvement of broadcasters and viewers of the programs and to diversify the roles of content providers and viewers in broadcasting.

Design and Implementation of the Multi-Mode Mobile Broadcasting EWS Encoding and Decoding Systems (멀티모드 이동 방송용 EWS(Emergency Warning System) 송·수신 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper presents the design and implementation of a multi-mode mobile broadcasting Emergency Warning System (EWS) transmission and reception system which enables the propagation of disaster information using the encoding and transmission, reception and decoding methods specified in diverse mobile broadcasting standards. The implemented system supports global mobile broadcasting standards such as Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H), Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T), and the Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) digital radio standard. The system consists of two key part: an encoding/transmission part and a reception/decoding part. The multi-mode mobile broadcasting EWS encoding and transmission system generates EWS data according to each broadcasting specification. The generated EWS data is then transmitted through a channel interface which meets the commercial broadcasting equipment specification. The receiver system receives and decodes the EWS data on a single hardware platform and can display the results on screen. Verification and conformity testing has been carried out on the implemented system by transmitting emergency data for each mode in real-time and displaying the received information in text on the receiver display.

  • The existing wireless village broadcasting systems use the method to connect to village broadcasting system using wire/wireless telephone to announce the important notices, public relations, and disater status. This type of systems have the problems that if broadcaster is facing rough going or forget the announcement time, it is impossible to inform village people important contents, urgent disaster status, evacuation method. This paper describes internet based village broadcasting system using mobile App to solve these problems. Broadcaster can save the voice and send the voice to App server using the mobile App to activate that voice specific day and time. This mobile App system can improve the efficiency and customer satisfaction of village broadcasting system.

A Probabilistic Broadcasting Mechanism based on Cross Layer Model Deliberating Received Signal Strength Ratio in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

  • Mobile Ad Hoc Networks(MANETs) consists of mobile nodes which communicate with each other without any centralized infrastructure. Message broadcasting by flooding for route discovery in MANET can result in high redundant retransmission, contention and collision of broadcasting packet, known as the broadcast storm problem collectively. The cross-layer design is adopted in this paper, which lets routing layer share the received signal strength information at MAC layer. Also this paper proposes a new probabilistic approach that dynamically adjusts the rebroadcasting probability of a node for routing request packets (RREQs) according to the received signal strength. The simulation results show that the proposed approach demonstrates better performance than blind flooding, fixed probabilistic broadcasting approaches.

  • In this paper, the technology verification of next generation broadcasting technology and service suitable for domestic broadcasting environment was carried out to build and activate domestic terrestrial UHD broadcasting. ATSC 3.0-based mobile HD broadcasting is currently conducting experiments with various parameters from broadcasting companies, research institutes and others. However, experiments on integrated transmissions, including audio services, have not been carried out. Through this experiment, we first performed the theory and experiment on the maximum number of ATSC 3.0 based UHD broadcasting service, maximum service number of HD broadcasting considering mobility, and maximum service number of audio broadcasting within one channel (6MHz). Second, parameters for integrated transmission of each service (UHD broadcasting, mobile HD and audio broadcasting) in one channel were derived. Finally, we studied technical possibilities through field tests that we receive while moving directly in the field.

  • Since the existing analog village broadcasting system has some technical problems in applying and degradations in performance due to its old equipments, it had been required recently to be changed to a wireless digital system and to develop the standardization. However, it is important to analyze the interference between villages in deploying the efficient digital wireless village broadcasting system. In this paper, simulations for co-channel and adjacent channel interference have been carried out considering digital private mobile radio(dPMR) and digital mobile radio(DMR) systems as a representative mobile radio. These results for frequency reuse and channel separation drawn from the separation distance between villages in co-channel interference and the frequency offset in adjacent interference can be helpful to establish a standard and the testing service in the near future.

  • VOD Service, which has established a solid foothold as a profit model of digital broadcasting companies, is emerging as a key application of the N-screen technologies and services. In the circumstance, broadcasting companies are trying to promoting their VOD services by providing mobile services for improving the VOD service usability. The paper introduces a VOD mobile app (of a domestic digital cable broadcasting), which includes the functions of promoting the VOD programs and events printed on a VOD guide book, directly transmitting the information (e.g., book-marking and remote-control signals) to a set-top box, and watching the video contents stored in the mobile device on TV.

  • This paper proposes a method to provide the high quality 3D broadcasting service in a mobile broadcasting system. In this method, audio and video data are delivered through a heterogeneous network, consisting of a mobile network as well as a broadcasting network, due to the limited bandwidth of the broadcasting system. However, it is more difficult to synchronize the left and right video frames of a 3D stereoscopic service, which come through different types of networks. The proposed method suggests the use of the offset from the initial timestamp of RTP (Real Time Protocol) to determine the order of frames and to find the pair of a left and a right frame that must be played at the same time. Additionally, a new signaling method is introduced for a mobile device to request a 3D service and to get the initial RTP timestamp.

  • In this paper, we propose three symbol syn-chronization schemes for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) systems. The cyclic extension preceding OFDM symbols is of decisive importance for these schemes. The first scheme uses the phase-differential coding of the received OFDM signal. The second and the third schemes use the length of the received OFDM signal. All three schemes make symbol synchronization possible, even though there is a frequency off-set in the system. Simulation results show that these schemes can be used to synchronize an OFDM system over AWGN and multi-path fading channels.

  • 세계 주요 국가들은 HDTV 이후의 방송 서비스를 위한 준비 작업들을 진행하고 있으며, 그 중 하나가 UHDTV이다. UHDTV는 가정에서 70 mm 영화 수준의 화질(화면 해상도 $7680{\times}4320$, HD 화면 16배 크기에 해당)을 갖는 초고선명 비디오 서비스 제공을 목표로 한다. 본 고에서는 초고선명 비디오 서비스의 핵심 기술 중 하나인 초고선명 비디오 부호화 기술에 대한 기술 동향을 소개한다.
