In the conventional AF lens actuating system the VCM actuator is used. However due to the actuating mechanism, the VCM actuator has disadvantage in miniaturizing which is essential to the actuator for the mobile device. Therefore novel type actuator is required and the one of the candidate is actuator using electoractive polymer (EAP). The EAP actuator is one of the attractive smart materials that is light and can be easily fabricated with low cost. This paper proposes an AF lens actuator for mobile phone using dielectric elastomer. The proposed actuator was designed and analyzed using finite element method. The designed actuator is verified by experiment and the position control algorithm is applied.
Vibrotactile actuators for small consumer electronic products, such as mobile devices, have been widely used for conveying haptic sensation to users. One of the most important things in vibrotactile actuators is to be developed in the form of thin actuator which can be easily embedded into mobile devices and to provide vibrotactile signals with wide frequency band to users. Thus, this paper proposes a thin film type haptic actuator with an aim to convey vibrotactile information with high frequency bandwidth to users in mobile devices. To this end, a vibrotactile actuator which creates haptic sensation is designed and constructed based on cellulose acetate material. A cellulose acetate material charged with an electric potential can generate vibration under the AC voltage input. It is found that the motion of the actuator can have concave or convex shape by controlling a polarity of both charged membranes and the actuator performance can be modulated by increasing level of biased electric potential. The experiment clearly shows that the proposed actuator creates enough output force to stimulate human skin with a large frequency bandwidth and to simulate various vibrotactile sensations to users.
This paper proposes a robust adaptive fuzzy tracking control scheme for a nonholonomic mobile robot with external disturbances as well as parameter uncertainties in the robot kinematics, the robot dynamics, and the actuator dynamics. In modeling a mobile robot, the actuator dynamics is integrated with the robot kinematics and dynamics so that the actuator input voltages are the control inputs. The presented controller is designed based on a FBFN (Fuzzy Basis Function Network) to approximate an unknown nonlinear dynamic function with the uncertainties, and a robust adaptive input to overcome the uncertainties. When the controller is designed, the different parameters for two actuator models in the actuator dynamics are taken into account. The proposed control scheme does not require the kinematic and dynamic parameters of the robot and actuators accurately. It can also alleviate the input chattering and overcome the unknown friction force. The stability of the closed-loop control system including the kinematic control system is guaranteed by using the Lyapunov stability theory and the presented adaptive laws. The validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme are shown through a computer simulation.
Recently, as the requirements of several mobile products come to the front, to cope with the market needs, various mobile storage applications have appeared. Therefore, the core components and technologies for mobile optical disc drives have been developed continuously. In case of the optical storage, the small sized optical pickup is necessary to realize the mobile optical disc drive, because the optical pickup height is determined by the optical parts and an actuator. In this paper, we propose the optical pickup actuator using the horizontally arranged magnetic circuit, and apply to 5mm height Small Form-factor Optical Drive.
Optical image stabilization is a technique to compensate the image blurring caused by some vibrations of camera at the exposure time. Pitching and yawing of camera are sensitive to the image quality so they are usually compensated by optical image stabilization. Corresponding pitching and yawing of a camera, a lens or the image sensor is translated in two-axis direction and then the optical path of camera is adjusted. In this paper, two-axis OIS actuator for mobile camera module is suggested and designed. The actuator is a voice-coil actuator that uses the electromagnetic force of voice-coil to make compensation motions. And ball bearing is used to reduce friction force. Magnetic attractive force between magnets and yokes acts as a preload and magnet springs. Prototype actuator is fabricated to measure the friction force and to verify the feasibility of the OIS actuator with ball bearing. At last, the actuator is improved in consideration of driving force and friction force. Design of experiments is used for designing the actuator.
In this paper, auto focus actuator, which is used to move a lens module in the mobile phone having a camera module, is developed. Camera module containing auto focus actuator requires to minimize total size because of characteristics of the application area such as mobile phone, digital camera, and personal digital assistant. There are stepping motor, voice coil motor, and piezoelectric motor as auto focus actuator. In this paper, voice coil motor having new electromagnetic configuration is proposed. And actuator using proposed voice coil motor is developed by optimal design method using magnetic circuit analysis. The sectional area of the developed actuator is reduced to 32.4% compared with actuator using general electromagnetic configuration. From the performance test, the developed actuator has moving stroke of 0.64 mm for 2.1 volt, hysteresis of 40 $\mu$m, full stroke current of 54 mA, and unit step motion of 3 $\mu$m.
This paper suggests a new film-type haptic actuator based on cellulose acetate electro-active paper. Conventional tiny haptic actuators in mobile devices can create vibrotactile sensation at only near resonant frequency. The strategy of operating near the resonant frequency, however, brought a new issue for creating vibrotactile sensation which can be strong enough to feel in arbitrary frequency. Another problem is that the size of the conventional actuator is not small enough to be embedded into slim mobile devices. In order to achieve these issues, we propose a thin and tiny actuator based on a cellulose acetate material charged with an electric potential. The motion of the actuator can be a concave or a convex by controlling a polarity of both charged membranes and the actuator performance can be modulated by increasing level of biased electric potential.
This paper proposes a small VCM (Voice coil motor) type actuator using curved suspensions for auto-focusing and zoom motions for mobile information devices. 1'he proposed focusing actuator adopts a nontraditional type of suspension using curved beams in order to extend output displacement within small height restriction. The curved beam is similar to the leaf spring type which is usually used in optical disk drives. In addition, three different materials are considered for the curved suspension model, and Aluminum shows the best dynamic characteristics. The proposed zoom actuator does not use a suspension supporting bobbin but a moving rail and a sloper mechanism by generating rotational force at lens holder. The sensitivity of design parameters on output performance is studied using ANSYS (3D FEM tool). Experiments using a prototype of the proposed actuator model verified the analytical prediction and performance.
This paper proposes a robust adaptive fuzzy backstepping control scheme for trajectory tracking of an electrically driven nonholonomic mobile robot with uncertainties and actuator dynamics. A complete model of an electrically driven nonholonomic mobile robot described in this work includes all models of the uncertain robot kinematics with a nonholonomic constraint, the uncertain robot body dynamics with uncertain frictions and unmodeled disturbances, and the uncertain actuator dynamics with disturbances. The proposed control scheme uses the backstepping control approach through a kinematic controller and a robust adaptive fuzzy velocity tracking controller. The presented control scheme has a voltage control input with an auxiliary current control input rather than a torque control input. It has two FBFNs(Fuzzy Basis Function Networks) to approximate two unknown nonlinear robot dynamic functions and a robust adaptive control input with the proposed adaptive laws to overcome the uncertainties such as parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed control scheme does not a priori require the accurate knowledge of all parameters in the robot kinematics, robot dynamics and actuator dynamics. It can also alleviate the chattering of the control input. Using the Lyapunov stability theory, the stability of the closed-loop robot control system is guaranteed. Simulation results show the validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme.
