The Design and Implementation of AR Collaboration Service Platform for Technical Support in Industrial Sites (산업 현장의 기술 지원 AR 협업 서비스 플랫폼 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we explain the purpose of building a mobile app called "ARnetView" that can use the AR(augmented Reality)based calling function and AR based content creation function, and as well as an AR based data center that can share AR based video streaming and AR based contents on smartphones and tablet devices. For the AR(Augmented Reality) based data center implement, we have developed a mobile application and implemented a service system including an AR(augmented Reality) based calling function and AR based content production and AR based video streaming functions for real-time communication to connect a field technician and an expert so that the expert can see and discuss the situation in the field and technician and experts, they can draw digital annotation on mobile screen that accurately stick to 3D physical objects, allowing the expert to guide the technician step by step. In result, it provides a remote technical collaboration environment between field technician and expert. In addition, AR(Augmented Reality) collaboration service Platform was designed and implemented to increase work speed, efficiency, and utilization of advanced technicians, improve continuous productivity of equipment and facilities, maximize equipment and facility utilization, and strengthen industrial competitiveness. Therefore, through this, the AR collaboration service Platform can be applied to the industrial field, the medical field, and the entertainment/education field.

Development of Mobile AR Contents for Infant English Cognitive Training (유아영어 인지 능력 개발을 위한 모바일 AR 콘텐츠 개발)

  • Importance and necessity is enlarged due to globalization. So, English education is diverse and recently applies AR(Augmented Reality) technology to offer immersion and interest. Contents in this paper are Mobile AR contents for training infant English cognition. Our system displays teaching aid objects into 3D models, lets infants listen to English conversation and teaches them everyday English like a play. Considering infants that like games, this system adds an English game about each object of teach aids. To attract infants and parents interest persistingly, We give them immersion and interest by suggesting a different event at each step.

  • Spread of smartphone creates various contents. Among many contents, AR application using Location Based Service(LBS) is needed widely. In this paper, we propose error correction algorithm for location-based Augmented Reality(AR) system using computer vision technology in android environment. This method that detects the early features with SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) algorithm to minimize the mismatch and to reduce the operations, and tracks the detected, and applies it in mobile environment. We use the GPS data to retrieve the location information, and use the gyro sensor and G-sensor to get the pose estimation and direction information. However, the cumulative errors of location information cause the mismatch that and an object is not fixed, and we can not accept it the complete AR technology. Because AR needs many operations, implementation in mobile environment has many difficulties. The proposed approach minimizes the performance degradation in mobile environments, and are relatively simple to implement, and a variety of existing systems can be useful in a mobile environment.

  • In this paper, we propose CAMAR Core Platform as a framework for context-aware mobile augmented reality system development after brief introduction of limitations in the previous mobile augmented reality (AR). There have been many research activities on mobile AR due to recent enhancement of functionalities of mobile devices and development of relevant technologies to mobile augmented reality. In order to be used in ubiquitous computing environment, however, mobile AR systems should be able to utilize available contextual information, augment personalized contents, and share the augmented contents with other users. Thus, the proposed CAMAR Core Platform can provide such functionalities to those who want to develop CAMAR systems. To show the feasibility of the proposed framework, we show several applications based on the framework.

  • As the recent advances in network and wireless communications and semiconductor design and process technologies, our computing platform is rapidly shifting from desktop PCs to mobile devices such as UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC), Tablet PC, and Smartphone. Especially, wide-spreading Smartphones allow a new field of application based on location based services available with an user interface called augmented reality (AR). Therefore, this paper introduces an implementation of AR using various OpenAPls on Android Smartphones. In order to utilize enrich user data in real time, the system integrates with location based social network services also with OpenAPI. These APIs enable third-party developers to make use of rich contents of many portal web sites. The prototype was implemented on the real Android phone, Sky Sirius, and the result shows that it can provide an efficient location based service using AR technology without any constraints on mobile devices; in addition, it connects SNS to AR for sharing user data including photos, videos, and messages based on a specific location.

Scenario Usefulness and Avatar Realism in an Augmented Reality-based Classroom Simulation for Preservice Teacher Training

  • This study aimed to examine an augmented reality-based teaching simulation in a mobile application. We examined how AR-enabled interactions affect users' perceived scenario usefulness and avatar realism. The participants were forty-six undergraduate students. We randomly grouped them into two conditions: AR and Non-interactive video groups with equal sample sizes. This study employed an experimental design approach with a one-way multivariate analysis of variance with repeated measures. The independent variable is the presence/absence of AR interaction with a mobile application. The dependent variables were avatar realism and scenario usefulness. The measures explored how the student avatar's emotional intensity in a scenario influences user perception. The results showed that participants in the AR-interaction group perceived avatar realism significantly higher than those in the non-interactive video group. Also, participants perceived the high emotional intensity scenario (aggression toward peers) to be significantly higher usefulness than the low emotional intensity scenario (classroom disruption).

  • Augmented Reality (AR) is an emerging technology and a vibrant field, it has become common in application development, especially in smartphone applications (mobile phones). The AR technology has grown increasingly during the past decade in many fields. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the optimal approach to building the final product by evaluating the performance of each of them separately at a specific task. In this work we evaluated overall CPU and RAM performance for several types of Markerless Augmented Reality applications by using a multiple-objects in mobile development. The results obtained are show that the objects with fewer number of vertices performs steady and not oscillating. Object was superior to the rest of the others is sphere, which is performs better values when processed, its values closer to the minimum CPU and RAM usage.

  • Many applications, such as the lenses of mobile phones, involve complex 3D shapes. Delivering effective AR/AG surfaces in 3D is becoming an important challenge to the display industry.   • Recently various contents have been produced using the techniques that require high-performance computing process. A lot of services have been being producted as AR(Augmented Reality) service being combined with mobile information service that a moving user search various information based on one's location with. Mobile information service has a characteristic that it needs to get new information according to the location an user moves to. The characteristic requires a lot of communications when user search information moving to a different location. In order to make up for this drawback, we propose a prefetching technique based on speed and viewing angle in this paper. Existing prefetching techniques retrieve the following location of users considering moving speed and direction of the users. The data showed on the screen in AR is limited by the viewing angle of the mobile device. Due to the problems we discussed above, existing prefetching techniques have a demerit that they retrieve a lot more data than needed actually. We propose more efficient way of retrieving data with AR using the viewing angle of the mobile device. The method we propose reduces retrieval of unnecessary location using the users' speed, direction and viewing angle. This method is more efficient than the existing ways of retrieval because we don't need as many data.

Optimum AR Discovery On The MIPv6 Access Network (MIPv6 무선접근망에서 MN의 최적 AR 발견 방안)

  • AII IP망으로써의 성격을 지닌 차세대 인터넷망의 구축은 앞으로 다양한 서비스의 제공은 물론, 새로운 접속 기술의 개발을 앞당기게 될 것이다. 앞으로 제공될 서비스들은 시간에 민감하고, 대용량의 대역폭을 요구할 뿐만 아니라, 이동 중에도 적합한 서비스 품질(QoS Qualify of Service)의 보장을 요구한다. 현재, 호스트가 이동 중에 접점을 변경할 경우, 서비스의 무결절성을 보장해 주기 위해 가장 활발하게 연구가 진행되고 있는 protocol은 MIPv6(Mobile IPv6)이다. 그러나 MIPv6는 Best Effort 패킷 전송을 위해 디자인 되어 있기 때문에 QoS 보장 부분이 미약하다. 따라서 QoS 보장을 위해 IntServ에서 QoS 지원을 위해 구현된 시그널링 프로토콜인 RSVP(Resource Reservation)와의 연동에 관한 연구들이 많이 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 무선 access망에서 MIPv6와 RSVP를 기반으로 MN(mobile node)에게 서비스를 제공 해줄 수 있는 여러 AR(Access Router)들로부터 정보를 받아 저장하고 가장 적합한 AR을 찾는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 통해 라우터의 가용 자원에 따라 MN이 접점을 이동한 경우 적절한 AR로 빠른 핸드오프가 가능하여 핸드오프 시 발생되는 지연 시간(latency)을 감소 시켜 줄 수 있다.
