A field survey was carried out in Korea to assess the mineral composition of rice straw since it is a cheap and available cattle feedstuff. Forage and soil samples were collected in 4 localities in the Kyongbuk province. Soil analysis were also carried out in order to establish the relationships between soil composition and mineral content in the rice straw. Based on NRC tables, the rice straw samples provided adequate amounts of Mg, Ca, K, S, Mo, Mn and Zn. Percentages of samples deficient in P, Na, Cu and Se were 83, 50, 67 and 83 respectively. Soil samples, whose mean pH was 5.8 and mean organic matter content was 3.99%, were comparatively acidic and had high organic matter content. They also had high amounts of extractable Fe and Mn. Correlation coefficients between mineral content in soil and rice straw were low, i.e., 0.42 for Me (p < 0.05), and 0.37 for Mo (p < 0.05). The low or nonexistent correlation between soil and forage composition indicates the difficulty of establishing appropriate methods of mineral availability to the plants.
Cr-Mo-V steel is widely used as a material for the turbine structural component in fossil power plants. It is well known that this material shows the various material degradation phenomenons such as temper embrittlement, carbide coarsening. and softening etc. or ins to the severe operation conditions as high temperature and high pressure. These deteriorative factors cause tile change of mechanical properties as reduction of fracture toughness. Therefor it is necessary to evaluate tile extent of degradation damage for Cr-Mo-V steel in life assessment of turbine structural components. In this paper. the electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation(EPR) test in $50wt%-Ca(NO_3)_2$ solution is performed to develop the newly technique for degradation damage evaluation of Cr-Mo-V steel. The results obtained from the EPR test are compared with those in small punch(SP) tests recommended by semi-nondestructive testing method using miniaturized specimen. The evaluation parameters used in EPR test are tile reactivation current density$(I_R)$ and charge$(Q_{RC})$ reactivation rate$(I_R/I_{Crit},\;Q_R/Q_{Crit})$. The results suggest that $I_R/I_{Crit}$ in these parameters shows a good correlation with SP test results.
A new circulating hydroponic system was invented for oriental melons grown in the greenhouse. For developing nutrient solution management techniques, we examined the changes of nutrient contents of circulating solution in three different types of new hydroponic systems. The yield and fruit quality of oriental melons in Hydroponics were better than those in soil culture. The substrate culture was appropriate fer hydroponics of oriental melons, and NFT was turned to be the opposite due to the physiological disorder during hot seasons. Yamazaki's melon solution with EC 2.0dS.m$^{[-10]}$ was the most appropriate for oriental melons. The new circulating hydroponic system seemed to be appropriate for oriental melons because of the stable EC, pH and the macro- and micro-element contents. NO$_3$-N, Ca and Mg contents in the circulating solution kept a good balance in all types of hydroponics. However, p content, compared to other types, decreased by the degree of 1 me.L$^{[-10]}$ in perlite medium. K content showed irregular status in perlite but showed the stable status in cocopeat. Generally, microelements, except Mo, showed stable absorption in the substrate culture. However, in NET, most of the elements showed irregular absorption except B and Mn. Microelement absorption, especially Cu, Zn and Mo, decreased during hot seasons.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a cognitive enhancement program combined Silbot on cognitive function, depression, and dementia prevention behavior in the elderly complaining of subjective memory decline. The subjects were 170 elderly people living in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, and the study was performed at a welfare center. A total of 20 sessions program using Silbot and physical activity was developed and applied, and were evaluated using the Korean version of Montreal Cognitive Assessment (K-MoCA), Geriatric depression Scale(GDS) , and Dementia Prevention Behavior before and after intervention. As a result of the study, the cognitive enhancement program combined Silbot showed statistically significant changes in cognitive function (t=-4.49, p<.001) and depression (t=2.58, p=.023) in the elderly. Therefore, it is expected that the cognitive enhancement program using Silbot will be a useful program that can enhance the cognitive function of the elderly and reduce depression.

The nutritional medium requirement for biosurfactant production by Bacillus licheniformis K51 was optimized. The important medium components, identified by the initial screening method of Plackett-Burman, were $H_3PO_4,\;CaCl_2,H_3BO_3$, and Na-EDTA. Box-Behnken response surface methodology was applied to further optimize biosurfactant production. The optimal concentrations for higher production of biosurfactants were (g/l): glucose, $1.1;NaNO_3,\;4.4;MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O,\;0.8;KCl,\;0.4;CaCl_2,\;0.27;H_3PO_4,\;1.0ml/l;\;and\;trace elements\;(mg/l):H_3BO_3,\;0.25;CuSO_4,\;0.6;MnSO_4,\;2.2;Na_{2}MoO_4,\;0.5;ZnSO_4,\;6.0;FeSO_4,\;8.0;CoCL_2,\;1.0;$ and Na-EDTA, 30.0. Using this statistical optimization method, the relative biosurfactant yield as critical micelle dilution (CMD) was increased from $10{\times}\;to\;105{\times}$, which is ten times higher than the non-optimized rich medium.

This research was conducted to improve the cold tolerance of the gerbera cv. Gold Eye by introduction of the Arabidopsis $Ca^{2+}/H^+$ antiporter gene (CAX1) via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Prior to genetic transformation, we optimized a combination of plant growth regulators; $1.0mgl^{-1}$ 6-Benzyladenine (BA) and $0.1mgl^{-1}$3-indole-acetic acid (IAA) were found to lead to proper in vitro shoot regeneration from petiole explants. In addition, $50mgl^{-1}$ kanamycin was determined to be the minimal concentration useful for selection of putative transgenic plants. In this study, transgenic gerbera expressing the Arabidopsis $Ca^{2+}/H^+$ antiporter gene (CAX1) were obtained using the optimized concentrations. We expect that introduction of the gene to the cultivar will improve cold tolerance, which will be important in the winter months.
The effect of acidity and the metal surface area of the Pd loaded zeolite catalysts; prepared from $Ca^{2+}-,\;La^{3+}-,\;NH_4^+-$exchanged Y and dealuminated HY was studied for the reaction of n-butane. The amount of strong acid site determined by the temperature programmed desorption of ammonia increased in the order NaY < CaY < LaY. Total amount of acid site decreased with increasing degree of dealumination, but the portion of strong acid site increased with increasing $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio. The effective metal surface area determined by the CO adsorption technique was large for those zeolite catalysts having strong acidity. It was found that conversion of n-butane was strongly dependent on the acidity and the effective metal surface area of the catalysts. The fact that the conversion of n-butane was proportional to the effective metal surface area suggests that the dehydrogenation by metallic component is the primary step in the reaction of n-butane.
Rice flour reference materials were prepared from the unpolished rice grown in Korea and certified for elemental composition. The reference materials consist of two samples containing normal and high level. The reference material at elevated level was prepared by spiking to the normal rice flour six toxic elements of As, Cd, Cu, Cr, Hg, Pb with $1.0{\mu}g/g$ on a dry weight basis. Homogeneity of the prepared materials was evaluated through the determination of Ca, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Small variance of elemental composition among interbottled samples assured homogeneity of the prepared materials. The materials were decomposed by high pressure digestion and microwave digestion method. INAA, AAS, inductively coupled plasma-atomic absorption spectrometry (ICP-AES), ICP-mass spectrometry (MS) and vapour generation techniques were employed to analyze the reference materials. From this independent analytical results, the certified or reference values are determined for As, Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, P, Pb, Se, Zn.
Traditional Kr$\ddot{o}$ger-Vink (K-V) notation defines sites in ionic crystals as interstitial or belonging to host ions. It enables description and calculations of combinations of native and foreign defects, including dopants and substituents. However, some materials exhibit inherently disordered partial occupancy of ions and vacancies, or partial occupancy of two types of ions. For instance, the high temperature disordered phases of $Bi_2O_3$, $Ba_2In_2O_5$, $La_2Mo_2O_9$, mayenite $Ca_{12}Al_{14}O_{33}$, AgI, and $CsHSO_4$ are all good ionic conductors and thus obviously contain charged point defects. But traditional K-V notation cannot account for a charge compensating defect in each case, without resorting to terms like "100% substitution" or "Frenkel disorder". the former arbitrary and awkward and the latter inappropriate. Instead, a K-V compatible nomenclature in which the partially occupied site is defined as the perfect site, has been proposed. I here introduce it thoroughly and provide a number of examples.

It is well known that the Hongcheon iron-rare earth deposit is composed of carbonatite-phoscorite complex. We conducted zircon U-Pb age determination for the gneissic country rocks of this deposit. As the result we obtained ca. 1830 Ma, which is somewhat younger than igneous and metamorphic ages of ca. 1870 Ma generally reported from the Gyeonggi massif, suggesting further investigations for the timing and evolution of the Paleoproterozoic activities of the Gyeonggi massif.
