  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of tall type mixtures and turf type mixtures on dry matter yield, botanical composition and quality. The experimental design includes two mixture types : Tall type mixtures; orchardgrass (Potomac) 50+tall fescue (Fawn) 20+ Kentucky bluegrass (Kenblue) 10+red clover (Kenland) 20%) and turf type mixtures; Kentucky bluegrass(Newport) 60%+tall fescue (reboil Jr.) 20+perennial ryegrass (palmer II) 20%. The DM yield was higher obtained in tall type mixture than that of turf type mixture (p<0.05). In the chemical composition, Turf type mixture was higher in crude protein (CP) and dry matter digestibility (DMD), but lower in fibrous compound as NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin than those of tall type mixture (p<0.05). The crude protein dry matter (CPDM) and digestible dry matter (DDM) yield was higher in tall type mixture than turf type mixture (p<0.05). In this experiment, nutritive value of turf type mixture was higher than that of tall type mixture, but CPDM and DDM yield of turf type mixture were lower than that of turf type mixture due to low dry matter yield. On the other hand, turf type mixture was obtained high feed value, and maintaining the various botanical composition on the 13 th cutting frequency condition. therefore, turf type mixture had a utilization possibility under grazing livestock as sheep and milk goats.

  • Recently, geofiber(polyester) reinforced soil was added on soil-seed mixture spray to control erosion and to improve vegetation growth on rocky slope sites. This research was conducted to compare vegetation effects and soil hardness on three types of soil-seed mixture spray on stone gabion river bank [A type : soil-seed mixture spray underlying 30cm thick sand with geofiber(geofiber reinforced soil system), B type : soil-seed mixture spray underlying 30cm thick sand without geofiber, C type : soil-seed mixture spray]. Evaluation were made concerning vegetation coverage, soil hardness and moisture content. The results of this study showed that A type system was effective for the growth of vegetation and soil hardness when compareed to B type and C type. A type and B type showed higher covering rate than C type on stone gabion river bank, and especially A type showed the highest covering rate. Soil hardness and water content were high on A type vegetation system compared to B type and C type. We noted that high soil hardness and high moisture content with geofiber(geofiber reinforced soil system) were effective both to control erosion from water current impact and to be high coverage and species of vegetation on stone gabion river bank.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the dry matter yield and quality of mixture swards associated with Festulolium braunii(Festuca pratensis Huds. ${\times}$ Lolium multiflorum Lam.). The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with four mixture types: A(control); orchardgrass(seeding rate 60%) + tall fescue 20% + Kentucky bluegrass 10% + white clover 10%, B; orchardgrass 60% + tall fescue 20% + Festulolium braunii 10% + white clover 10%, C; orchardgrass 60% + Festulolium braunii 20% + Kentucky bluegrass 10% + white clover 10%, and D; orchardgrass 30% + Festulolium braunii 30% + red clover 40%. This study was carried out from Sept. 1996 to Dec. 1998 at Chungnam National University. The DM yield of D mixture type was higher than that of other mixture types(P<0.05). Compared with A(control) mixture type, the DM yield of the B mixture type which substitutes Kentucky bluegrass with Festulolium braunii was higher, but the C mixture type which substitutes tall fescue with Festulolium braunii was lower than that of A(control) mixture type. The content of CP, NDF, ADF, hemi-cellulose and cellulose among mixture types shows no significant differdence. Howerever, the DMD was not significantly different among mixture types in 1997, but the DMD of C and D mixture type were significantly higher than those of other mixture types in 1998(P<0.05). On the otherhand, the yield of CP and DDM in D mixture types was higher than those of the other mixture types(P<0.05). In botanical composition, the Festulolium braunii percentage of B, C and D mixture type with mixed Festulolium braunii wasd highly maintained, especially D mixture type was ranging from 40% to 60% in experimental periods. Following the above result, It is the most favorable mixture method for Festulolium braunii to make use of top grass like orchardgrass + red clover. It is also recommened to substitute bottom grass like Kentucky bluegrass with Festulolium braunii rather than with tall fescue in A(control) mixture type.

The field trials were conducted from 2003 to 2005 at Chungnam National University in order to evaluate the dry matter yield and quality of different mixture. The experimental design includes three mixture types: Conventional mixtures, CM{orchardgrass(Potomac) 50% + tall fescue (Fawn)20% + Kentucky bluegrass(Kenblue) 20% + white clover(Regal) 10%}, red clover + mixtures, RM{orchardgrass(Potomac) 40% + tall fescue(Fawn) 20% + Kentucky bluegrass(Kenblue) 10% + red clover(Kenland) 30%) and Turf type grass + mixtures, TM {orchardgrass (Potomac) 50% + turf type grass (tall fescue, Millennium 20% + Kentucky bluegrass, Midnight 10% + perennial ryegrass, Palmer III 10%) + white clover(Regal) 10%}. The average DM yield for 2 years of red clover+mixture(11,656kg/ha) was higher than those of the other mixtures(p<0.05). The content of crude protein and dry manu digestibility were higher in red clover+mixture than in other mixtures(p<0.05). but, the content of fibrous compounds like as NDF, ADF, cellulose and lignin were lower in red clover+mixture than in other mixtures(p<0.05). The crude protein dry matter(CPDM) yield was higher in red clover + mixture(2,832kg/ha) than in conventional mixture(2,372kg/ha) and turf type + mixture(2,266kg/ha)(p<0.05). The digestible dry matter (DDM) yield was higher in red clover + mixture(8,881 kg/ha) than in conventional mixture(8,255kg/ha) and turf type + mixture(7,314kg/ha)(p<0.05). In botanical composition at last cutting time in 2005, conventional mixture were maintained orchardgrass 45%, tall fescue 22%, Kentucky bluegrass 5% and white clover 24%. Red clover + mixture were maintained orchardgrass 40%, tall fescue 22%, Kentucky bluegrass 4% and red clover 31%. turf type + mixture were orchardgrass 37%, tall fescue 23%, Kentucky bluegrass 6%, perennial ryegrass 8% and white clover 24%, respectively. As summary, DM yields and quality of mixture species and seeding rates were observed significant difference. The results of this experiment indicated that red clover + mixture was more effective in enhancing the DM yield and forage quality in Daejon area.

  • The behaviors of the mixture at the downstream of throttle valve in a TBI type gasoline engine plays a greater role in design of intake system. A good mixture has been influencing directly not only on the engine power but also on the pollutant emission. The mixture flow in an intake manifold is very complex, and the flow characteristics are varied with the valve type, valve angle, inlet air flow rate, and the other flow factors. Three kinds of valve are chosen in this study, and the informations of the mixture flow are observed experimentally using a PIV apparatus. Perforate valve has a smaller recirculation zone than the case of solid valve with a lower valve loss coefficient, and iti is verified that the perforated valve is also suitable to control the flow rate in a mixture flow system.

  • The angular dispersion-type non-scanning Fabry-Perot was applied to an ethanol-water mixture in order to investigate its acoustic properties such as the sound velocity and the absorption coefficient. The scattered light from the mixture was analyzed by using the charge-coupled-device area detector, which made the measurement time much shorter than that obtained by using the conventional scanning tandem multi-pass Fabry-Perot interferometer. The sound velocity showed a deviation from ultrasonic sound velocities at low temperatures accompanied by the increase in the absorption coefficient, indicating acoustic dispersion due to the coupling between the acoustic waves and some relaxation process. Based on a simplified viscoelastic theory, the temperature dependence of the relaxation time was obtained. The addition of water molecules to ethanol reduced the relaxation time, consistent with dielectric measurements. The present study showed that the angular dispersion-type Fabry-Perot interferometer combined with an area detector could be a very powerful tool in the real-time monitoring of the acoustic properties of condensed matter.

  • Two kinds of the ac-plasma display panel (PDP) with the comb type and the matrix type electrodes were fabricated. The discharge properties were studied as a function of as species (Ne and Ne+He+Xe) and its pressure. The firing voltages (Vf) of the PDP with comb type electrodes were 159 V and 195 V under pure Ne and ne+He+Xe(68:30:2) gas mixture respectively. In case of PDP cell with the matrix type electrodes the Vf was increased to 200 V for pure Ne and 240 V for Ne+He+Xe gas mixture under the same gas pressure(300 mbar).

  • Recently, with the increasing demand of high performance of concrete, the mix design of concrete mixture has became low water-to-binder ratio with high binder content. To compensate these trend of mix design, high range water reducer, or superplascizier has been invented to achieve high flowable concrete. Although this superplasticizer provides favorable workability based on its dispersing action on the components of concrete mixture, it has an limitation of decreasing viscosity of the mixture, and thus it is difficult to secure sufficient workability for high performance concrete mixtures with high binder content. To improve the workability of concrete with high viscosity, recently, low-viscosity type superplasticizer was introduced, and in this research, a fundamental properties of low-viscosity type superplasticizer is evaluated.

  • A mixture experiment is a special type of response surface experiment in which factors are the ingredients or components of a mixture, and the response is a function of the proportions of each ingredient. Evolutionary operation is useful to improve on-line full-scale manufacturing process by systematically changing the levels of the process variables without jeopardizing the product. This paper presents an evolutionary operation procedure with mixture variables for large-scale mixture production process which can be beneficial to practitioners who should improve on-line mixture quality while maintaining the production amount of the mixture product.
