The temperature field of a counterflow non-premixed flame is investigated using thermocouples of two sizes. A thermal balance is performed on the thermocouple in order to calculate the magnitude of the radiation corrections involved. Both the thermocouple wire and bead are separately considered to be the relevant thermal surface to which convective heat transfer takes place, and from which radiation lasses occur. The flame is also simulated by using a detailed chemical kinetic mechanism in a previously developed computer code. The local thermo-physical properties of the gas mixture, required to calculate the corrections, are determined both from the simulation, and by approximating the properties of the mixture as those of molecular nitrogen at the measured temperatures. It is concluded that the thermocouple wire is the appropriate thermal surface to which radiation corrections apply, in the absence of information about the gas mixture, its properties can be reasonably approximated by those of nitrogen rm ($N_2$), and the radiation corrections are very sensitive to misalignments in the temperature and velocity fields.
This study evaluated the cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory activities of natural herbal extracts including Houttuynia cordata and Eucommia ulmoides against human mast cell (HMC-1). Houttuynia cordata (HC) and Eucommia ulmoides(EU) were extracted with distilled water (at $75^{\circ}C$) and then freeze-dried for 5 days. Finally, the mixture of HC and EU were sterilized by ${\gamma}$-rays irradiation. Cytotoxicity of the mixture against HMC-1 cell was measured using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. In addition, inflammatory mediator cytokines such as TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-6 and IL-8 were evaluated by ELISA kit on the HMC-1 cells with calcimycin A23187 and phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA). The results showed that mixture of HC and EU had no cytoxicity and reduced TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-6, IL-8 response on HMC-1 cells.
This study was conducted to improve organoleptic quality of gamma-irradiated Tarakjuk at 10 kGy with cheeses (Camembert, Cheddar, Gouda, and Edam) and flavors (Nurungji, cream, and vanilla-cream). Overall acceptability of gamma-irradiated Tarakjuk added each camembert cheese and vanilla-cream flavor was the highest among the all samples. In the effect of sterilization method on the quality of Tarakjuk, the autoclaved samples added with Edam cheese, Gouda cheese, and vanilla-cream flavor, respectively, were showed higher score on the overall acceptability than the irradiated samples, meanwhile the irradiated samples were superior in the other samples. In case of added mixture of Edam cheese and vanilla-cream flavor, irradiated Tarakjuk with mixture was showed the most of high score on overall acceptability. In conclusion, addition of mixture of cheese and flavor to Tarakjuk may help to improve organoleptic quality of sterilized Tarakjuk by gammairradiation.
This study is a search for radiation protection effects of radiation exposure on the organogenic period during the prenatal period, which is known to be the most likely to have congenital malformations by radiation exposure. To study the radiation protection for the mixture of selenium that is strong antioxidant and folic acid that is essential vitamin for DNA synthesis, 2 Gy of radiation was irradiated to pregnant female rats. then, after 14 days of fetal birth, observing blood components, SOD(Superoxide Dismutase), histological changes and external malformations. There was a significant protective effect to reduce blood cell damage(p<0.05) in the irradiation group after selenium and folic acid mixture were administered than irradiation group, and the activation of SOD which is antioxidant enzymes was increased. In addition, confirmed the effect of suppressing the expression of apoptosis of small intestinal cells and the reduction of cerebral cortex layer reduction by radiation. thus, it was confirmed that the congenital malformations were reduced as a result of these protective effects. Based on these results, selenium and folic acid mixture may reduce the incidence of congenital malformations, and it will reduce the damage of the fetus caused by the exposure of the organogenic period due to accidents.
Tensioned metastable fluids provide a powerful means for low-cost, efficient detection of a wide range of nuclear particles with spectroscopic capabilities. Past work in this field has relied on one-component liquids. Pure liquids may provide very good detection capability in some aspects, such as low thresholds or large radiation interaction cross sections, but it is rare to find a liquid that is a perfect candidate on both counts. It was hypothesized that liquid mixtures could offer optimal benefits and present more options for advancement. However, not much is known about radiation-induced thermal-hydraulics involving destabilization of mixtures of tensioned metastable fluids. This paper presents results of experiments that assess key thermophysical properties of liquid mixtures governing fast neutron radiation-induced cavitation in liquid mixtures. Experiments were conducted by placing liquid mixtures of various proportions in tension metastable states using Purdue's centrifugally-tensioned metastable fluid detector (CTMFD) apparatus. Liquids chosen for this study covered a good representation of both thermal and fast neutron interaction cross sections, a range of cavitation onset thresholds and a range of thermophysical properties. Experiments were devised to measure the effective liquid mixture viscosity and surface tension. Neutron-induced tension metastability thresholds were found to vary non-linearly with mixture concentration; these thresholds varied linearly with surface tension and inversely with mixture vapor pressure (on a semi-log scale), and no visible trend with mixture viscosity nor with latent heat of vaporization.
Hydrogels from a mixture of poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), ${\kappa}$-carrageenan and microorganism fermentation celluose were prepared by $^{60}Co$ gamma-ray irradiation. PVP and ${\kappa}$-carrageenan were mixed with the different ratios. Microorganism fermentation celluose were added to the mixture of PVP and ${\kappa}$-carrageenan to evaluate the effect of microorganism fermentation celluose on the gel strength. The gel strength of the hydrogel was evaluated for application of a wound dressing. The results showed that gelation and gel strength were increased with increasing the content of the microorganism fermentation celluose.
This paper illustrates the validity of reciprocating type superadiabatic combustor as a industrial applicable dryer. After the investigations of inner and surface temperature distributions of combustor various with air-fuel(methane) ratio, mixture flow rate and reciprocating time, this combustor can be applied in industrial dryer at certain operating conditions. The results are as follows. 1) Higher equilivalence ratio emits more radiation heat flux at the censer chamber 2) Higher mixture flow rate makes more uniform temperature distribution. however, due to the heat transfer from censer chamber to porous media, the radiation beat flux is worse. 3) Longer reciprocating time emit more radiation heat flux. however, this case also makes temperature distribution wide

High-strength shielding concrete against gamma radiation is a priority for many medical and industrial facilities. This paper aimed to investigate the gamma-ray shielding properties of high-strength hematite concrete mixed with silica fume (SF) with nanoparticles of lead dioxide (PbO2), tungsten oxide (WO3), and bismuth oxide (Bi2O3). The effect of mixing steel fibres with the aforementioned binders was also investigated. The reference mixture was prepared for high-strength concrete (HSCC) containing 100% hematite coarse and fine aggregate. Thirteen mixtures containing 5% SF and nanoparticles of PbO2, WO3, and Bi2O3 (2%, 5%, and 7% of the cement mass, respectively) were prepared. Steel fibres were added at a volume ratio of 0.28% of the volume of concrete with 5% of nanoparticles. The slump test was conducted to workability of fresh concrete Unit weight water permeability, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity tests were conducted to assess concrete's engineering properties at 28 days. Gamma-ray radiation of 137Cs emits photons with an energy of 662 keV, and that of 60Co emits two photons with energies of 1173 and 1332 keV were applied on concrete specimens to assess radiation shielding properties. Nanoparticles partially replacing cement reduced slump in workability of fresh concrete. The compressive strength of mixtures, including nanoparticles was shown to be greater, achieving 94.5 MPa for the mixture consisting of 7.5 PbO2. In contrast, the mixture (5PbO2-F) containing steel fibres achieved the highest values for splitting tensile, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity (11.71, 15.97, and 42,840 MPa, respectively). High-strength shielded concrete (7.5PbO2) showed the best radiation protection. It also showed the minimum concrete thickness required to prevent the transmission of radiation.
