Estimation of Small Area Proportions Based on Logistic Mixed Model

  • We consider a logistic model with random effects as the superpopulation for estimating the small area pro-portions. The best linear unbiased predictor under linear mired model is popular in small area estimation. We use this type of estimator under logistic mixed motel for the small area proportions, on which the estimation of mean squared error is also discussed. Two kinds of estimation methods, the parametric bootstrap and the linear approximation will be compared through a Monte Carlo study in the respects of the normality assumption on the random effects distribution and also the magnitude of sample sizes on the approximation.

Line Balancing for the Mixed Model Assembly Line Considering Processing Time and Physical Workloads (작업시간과 육체적인 작업부하를 고려한 혼합모델 조립공정의 라인밸런싱)

  • Line Balancing is the problem to assign tasks to stations while satisfying some managerial viewpoints. Most researches about the Mixed-Model Line Balancing problems are focused on the minimizing the total processing time or the number of workstations. Independently, some research reports consider the balance issues of the physical workloads on the assembly line. In this paper, we are presenting a new mathematical model to accomplish the line balance considering both the processing time and the workloads at the same time. To this, end, we propose an zero-one integer program problem, and we use the Chebyshev Goal Programming approach as the solution method. Some computational test runs are performed to compare the pay-offs between the processing time and the workloads. And, the test results show us that the reliable balanced work schedules can be obtained through the proposed model.

  • Recently, interest grew on the quality of aggregates following the diminution of primary resources from river and the growing construction demand which exhausted high-quality sand sources around large cities and incited the use of low grade aggregates like shore sand and sea sand that can be supplied in natural state. Moreover, the most sensitive aspect highlighted by the unstability of aggregate supply is the quality. Developments of Structural Systems Toward Mile-High Towers

  • Tall buildings which began from about 40 m tall office towers in the late $19^{th}$ century have evolved into mixed-use megatall towers over 800 m. It is expected that even mile-high towers will soon no longer be a dream. Structural systems have always been one of the most fundamental technologies for the dramatic developments of tall buildings. This paper presents structural systems employed for the world's tallest buildings of different periods since the emergence of supertall buildings in the early 1930s. Further, structural systems used for today's extremely tall buildings over 500 m, such as core-outrigger, braced mega-tube, mixed, and buttressed core systems, are reviewed and their performances are studied. Finally, this paper investigates the potential of superframed conjoined towers as a viable structural and architectural solution for mile-high and even taller towers in the future.

  • After analyzing the characteristics of the cooling dryer, the mixed cooling dryer was developed by adding the desiccant dryer which supplement the cooling dryer's demerits. Also, the hybrid desiccant cooling dryer was developed to use effectively the exhaust heat energy of the cooling dryer. It could make a more that 20 percent reduction in energy compared with the mixed desiccant cooling dryer. It has become essential to supply this equipment and search the suitable drying product.

Transverse stress determination of composite plates

  • Analysis of transverse stresses at layer interfaces in a composite laminate has always been a challenging task. Composite structures possess highly irregular material properties at layer interfaces, which cause high shear stresses. Classical Plate Theory and First Order Shear Deformation Theory (FSDT) use post computing to calculate transverse stresses. This paper presents Reissner Mixed Variational Theorem (RMVT) based finite element model to carry out layer-wise analysis of composite laminates. Selective integration scheme has been used. The formulation has been validated by solving numerical examples and comparing the results with those published in the literature.

  • The hand acupuncture, called Sujichim, is mostly conducted at home. Many people try to learn and apply the Sujichim treatment to the health care of their family. This paper proposes a mixed reality scheme for the hand acupuncture supporting system. Using our system, a novice can easily perform the acupuncture by himself to improve his body condition. Our system has two major phases: learning phase and operation phase. In learning phase, we extract the finger joint lines from the real world image, where the lines are very important for finding the acupuncture spots on a hand. In operation mode, user can easily make Sujichim treatment by the knowledge provided by the computer. According to the experiments, our system is proved to be very effective and easy to use.

  • This study analyzes the properties of foam according to the concentration of vegetable foaming agent that is used in traditional and mixed foaming agent of developing stage, and confirms how the foams influence foamed concrete by searching for properties of foamed concrete according to replacing ratio of vegetable foaming agent and mixed foaming agent. This is for the purpose of providing basic data for the use of foamed concrete through improvement on the problem such as unstability, falling in fluidity and the strength of existed foaming agent.

Analysis of Stratified Lake using an Eddy Diffusion and a Mixed-layer Models

  • A one-dimensional eddy diffusion model and a mixed-layer model are developed and applied to simulate the vertical temperature profiles in lakes. Also the running result of each method are compared and analyzed. In an eddy diffusion model, molecular diffusivity is neglected and eddy diffusivity which does not need lake-specific fitting parameter and constant lake's level are applied. The heat exchanges at the water surface and the bottom are formulated by the energy balance and zero energy gradient, respectively. In a mixed-layer model, two layers approach which has a constant thickness is adopted. The application of these models which use explicit finite difference and Runge-Kutta methods respectively demonstrates that the models simulate water temperatures efficiently.

  • This paper presents a new method that can efficiently solve the integrated problem of line balancing and model sequencing in mixed-model U-lines (MMULs). Balancing and sequencing problem are important for an efficient use of MMULs and are tightly related with each other. However, in almost all the existing researches on mixed­model production lines, the two problems have been considered separately. In 1his research, an endosymbiotic evolutionary algorithm, which is a kind of evolutionary algorithm, is adopted as a methodology in order to solve the two problems simultaneously. Some evolutionary search capability, rapidity of convergence and population diversity. The proposed algorithm is compared with the existing evolutionary algorithm in terms of solution quality. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of our approach.
