Korean society is a mix of western and traditional cultures. Even though the patients try to recover through both aspects, hospital only utilizes a western approachs. When they have suffered from a chronic disease, especially diabeties meliitus(DM), application of folk medicine is more varied but the nurses are unaware of the practices. This study was done to describe the current use of the folk medicine with which the patients with DM have had an experience and to identify the relationships between the westernized medical care and folk medicine application. The 244 patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes millitus who participated were interviewed at a DM education clinic in a 1500-bed hospital. The results of the study are as follows: 1. 54.1%(N=133) of the participated patients in this study have had a folk medicine. 2. 44 kinds of folk medicine were used for the treatment of DM. Among them 14 items were used by more than two people and the rest were used by one person. Among the used items, 70.4% consisted of various types of plants, 11.4% was animal material and 18. 2% was the mixed group. As a single item, Commelina Communis(Dalgaebi) was the most frequently used(62.8%), followed by the root of Rosa rugosa(Haedangwha) 14.3%, and Youngi mushroom 13.6%. 3. In the analysis of the relationships between the general characters of the patients with regular fol1ow-up(F-U), self blood sugar test(BST) and folk medicine usage: 1) The higher the educational back ground patient had, the lower the folk medicine usage was ($X^2$=14.265, P=.003). 2) The more complex their treatment was($X^2$=24. 016. P=.000). and the longer they had suffered from DM($X^2$=75.739, P=.000), the fewer they visited regular F-U. On the other hand, they did self-BST well($X^2$=7.722, P=.021 : $X^2$=14. 775, P=.002) and had more folk medicine($X^2$=33.382, P=.000 ; $X^2$=43.410, P=.000). 3) If they had suffered many symptoms, they had fewer regular F-U ($X^2$=13.192. P=.001). On the other hand, they had more folk medicine($X^2$=6.070, P=.048). 4) The group of family history($X^2$=6.801. P=.009) and the group of DM education experience($X^2$=15.678, P=.000) carried out self BST well. DM education group used more folk medicine($X^2$=8.680, P=.003). In conclusion, DM education should be grouped according to the treatment type and suffering period. Then the management of DM would be effective and the vague application of folk medicine would be decreased.
The needs for drawing up of biotope map is rapidly spreaded over each local government recently in Korea, according as enhancing of interest about biotope, which is recognized to practical instrument for concretely being able to considering natural environment and ecosystem on all sorts of development plan. However, there are not yet the standard suggestion on biotope types and classification systems and biotope classification criteria. Therefore, each other methodologies are applied to each of local autonomies. First, under such critical mind the biotope types and classification systems were drafted by a review on biotope types, biotope classification systems, and biotope classification criteria of the preceded case studies until now at the inside and outside of the country. And then the purpose of this study is to derive biotope types and biotope classification systems applicable to the whole Korean region through continual feed back such as field surveys in selected representative areas and consultations. As a result of reviewing the case examples, first, the biotope classification systems were mixed two steps system with three steps system and those were composed mostly of the structure of two steps: large and small. Second, land-use, soil pavement ratio, green cover ratio, and vegetation usually were applied to the biotope classification criteria. This study suggests that the biotope classification system is consisted of four steps system: large(biotope class), medium(biotope group), small(biotope type) and detail(sub-biotope type), and the biotope types are classified into 13 types of large step, 45 types of medium step and 127 types of small step. However, this study suggests that the new biotope types on small step or detail step should be continually supplemented with the foundation of classification system proposed in this study because the biotope type classification should consider regional characteristics.
Background: Tobacco smoking is a major cause of preventable disease and death worldwide. Kreteks are clove-flavored cigarettes made from a combination of tobacco and ground-clove mixed with a sauce, smoked widely in Indonesia. Because health and social consequences of kretek smoking are potentially as great as those of traditional cigarettes, this study examines the prevalence of kretek smoking in Indonesia and associated risk factors. Materials and Methods: The study used nationally representative Indonesia Global Adult Tobacco Survey data. Multiple logistic regression analysis was employed to identify correlates of kretek smoking. Results: One-third of Indonesian adults smoked tobacco of which about 90.0% smoked kreteks. Prevalence of kretek smoking among men (60.9%) was more than 25 times the rate among women (2.3%). Overall, the highest prevalence of kretek use was in the age group 45-54 years (36.5%), followed by 34-44 (35.1%), 25-34 (34.2 %), and 55-64 years (32.8%). By wealth index, prevalence of kreteks smoking among those in the middle index was almost 50% above the rate for the wealthiest group (36.4% vs 24.8% respectively). Logistic regression results showed that being male, being older, having less education, and being less wealthy were significant predictors of kretek smoking, while urban vs rural residence was not. Conclusions: Kretek smoking is common in Indonesia and is entrenched in the sociocultural fabric of the country. However, potential consequences of kretek smoking, particularly as risks for noncommunicable diseases, underscore the importance of a comprehensive approach to tobacco control as outlined in the World Health Organization's MPOWER strategies.
Entrepreneurs usually require financing for starting their businesses. Their primary source may be personal savings, family and friends' funds, or loans from banks and other financial institutions. Immigrant and native entrepreneurs may differ in their sources of financing, and their differences in sources may depend on their societal context. The research questions are, how does an entrepreneur's migration status -immigrant versus native-influence primary source of financing, and how is this influence moderated by wealth of the country? Data are a sample of 14,369 immigrant and native owner-managers of starting businesses in 29 countries, surveyed in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, and analyzed by hierarchical mixed models. Analyses reveal that immigrant and native entrepreneurs similarly frequently have their personal savings and family as the primary source of funding. Native entrepreneurs, more often than immigrant entrepreneurs, have banks and other financial institutions as the primary source of funding. Immigrants, more often than native entrepreneurs, have friends and yet other sources as the primary source of funding. These effects of migration status upon source of financing, however, are moderated by the national context, in that wealth of the country boosts the immigrants' use of friends and other sources of financing.

In this study, rainwater-greywater hybrid system was installed and operated for 1 year in order to evaluate its water quantity, water quality, and economic efficiency in building no. 39. This system was expected to overcome each disadvantages of and maximize each advantages. Low-greywater that was washed up from shower room was treated by MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) and ozone oxidation. Rainwater that was collected from the rooftop was stored in a reservoir, and then transferred to the storage tank that was mixed with treated greywater. After 1 year operating in building no. 39, rainwater and greywater was used to supply $2,599m^3$ of toilet flushing water. In terms of water quality, rainwater was satisfied far the greywater reuse standards except for E.coli. Moreover, low greywater quality was acceptable except for E. coli, BOD, SS, and turbidity. In addition, economic analysis was obtained from benefit-cost ratio (B/C) with 1.11. It implies that the feasibility of the project was reasonable. Furthermore, various research and policy to improve the economic efficiency of water recycling facilities is required to expand the use of water recycling facilities.

Carbon fiber is a material with excellent mechanical, electrical and thermal properties, which is widely used as a composite material made of a polymer matrix. However, this composite material has a weak point of interlaminar delamination due to weak interfacial bond with polymer matrix compared with high strength and elasticity of carbon fiber. In order to solve this problem, it is essential to use reinforcements. Due to excellent mechanical properties, graphene have been expected to have large improvement in physical properties as a reinforcing material. However, the aggregation of graphene and the weak interfacial bonding have resulted in failure to properly implement reinforcement effect. In order to solve this problems, dispersibility will be improved. In this study, functionalization of graphene nanoplatelet was proceeded with melamine and mixed with epoxy polymer matrix. The carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites were fabricated using the prepared graphene nanoplatelet/epoxy and flexural properties and interlaminar shear strength were measured. As a result, it was confirmed that the dispersibility of graphene nanoplatelet was improved and the mechanical properties of the composite material were increased.

This inquiry was conducted to develop DeNOx catalyst for LNT. In order to develop appropriate catalysts, four catalysts, which do not use PGM (Platinum Group Metal), were carefully selected : Al/Co/Mn, Al/Co/Ni/Mn, Al/Co/Mn/Ca, Al/Co/Ni mixed metal oxides during preliminary experiments. Also, XRD, EDS, SEM, BET and TPD tests were carried as well to evaluate both physicochemical properties of such four catalysts. As a result of the experiment, four catalysts were composed of spinel-shaped crystals and had more than enough pore volume and size to have oxidation-reduction reaction of NOx gases. Additionally, through TPD test, all four types of catalysts were proved to possibly have an oxidation-reduction acid site and NO oxidation activities similar to commercial catalysts. Based on the results above, if we have further change in the composition components and active ingredients according to the catalysts that were chosen in this investigation, then we are more welcomed to expect to have an enhanced DeNox catalyst for LNT.
MODIS (Moderate Resolution Image Spectrometer) is a core satellite sensor boarded on Terra and Aqua satellite of NASA Earth Observing System since 1999 and 2001, respectively. MODIS LAI, FPAR, and GPP provide useful means to monitor plant phonology and material cycles in terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, LAI, FPAR, and GPP in Korea were evaluated and errors associated with cloud contamination on MODIS pixels were eliminated for years $2001\sim2003$. Three-year means of cloud-corrected annual GPP were 1836, 1369, and 1460g C $m^{-2}y^{-1}$ for evergreen needleleaf forest, deciduous broadleaf forest, and mixed forest, respectively. The cloud-originated errors were 8.5%, 13.1%, and 8.4% for FPAR, LAI, and GPP, respectively. Summertime errors from June to September explained by 78% of the annual accumulative errors in GPP. This study indicates that cloud-originated errors should be mitigated for practical use of MODIS vegetation products to monitor seasonal and annual changes in plant phonology and vegetation production in Korea.
A solid of Thermophilic Aerobic Oxidation(TAO) System was mixed with sawdust or a rice husks. After fermentation was finished, molding machine and a dryer were used, and pellet fertilizer was produced. The fertilizing experiment was carried out as five pieces by Bed soil, TAO solid(TAO-S), TAO pellet fertilizer(TAO-PF), Chemical fertilizer(NPK) and Control(no fertilizer). Growth rate of the Chinese cabbage by each treatment was examined. Analysis of microbe and soil characteristic before and after crop experiment were carried out. When the moisture contents of TAO-PF were $18\%$ and $25\%$, the occurrence rate of microbes for the storage time was increased to $80\%$ and $100\%$ respectively. However, in the $12\%$ of water content treatment was not increased microbes. The concentration of soil bacteria in TAO-PF and TAO-S for 15 day after treatment was $1.5\times10^7\~8.0\times10^7$ CFU/ml, and the concentration of bacteria for 50 day was increased to $6.3\times10^7$ and $8.3\times10^7$ CFU/ml. However, Fungus decreased. The concentration of Actinomycetes was increased in TAO solid, Bed soil and TAO-PF treatment. The TAO-S and TAO-PF treatment were normal to compare to the NPK treatment. In this experiment the height and width of the Chinese cabbage were 22.3 cm, 16.8 cm in Bed soil and 28.8 cm, 21.3 cm in TAO solid. The leaf number of TAO-S, TAO-PF and NPK treatment were similar to 39.8, 38.3, 40.3 sheet. As the result, the TAO-PF knew that use was possible with fertilizer.
The objective of the paper is to experimentally investigate the effect of commercially avaliable fiber types such as polypropylene (PP), nylon (NY), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and cellulose (CL) on the engineering properties of concrete for pavement application. The results, showed the fluidity tends to decrease with fibers addition compared to that of plain concrete. As for the effect of fiber types on fluidity loss, use of NY appear to give the most favorable results among all of the fiber types investigated in this study while the effect of the fibers on air content was negligible. For the properties of hardened concrete, compressive and flexural strengths increased with fibers compared to plain concrete. The contribution of NY fibers to strength was the highest followed in the order by NY, PVA, PP, and CL. However, in the case of the splitting tensile strength, its values were increased with NY and PP only. For porosity based on MIP(mercury intrusion penetration) method, the number of around 1 was observed when NY was mixed resulting in increased cumulated amounts of porosity compared with that of plain mix. Thus, based on the consideration of fluidity and strength it was found that the addition of NY fiber showed the optimal results under the conditions applied in this study.
