  • In this study, flow factors are evaluated in terms of kurtosis using random rough surface generated numerically. As h/$\sigma$become large øx, øy, øfp approach to 1 and øs, øfs to 0 asymptotically regardless of kurtosis. øx, øy, øfp increase with increasing kurtosis in the mixed lubrication regime. øs, øfs is associated with an additional flow transport due to the combined effect of sliding and roughness. As h/$\sigma$ decreases øs, øfs increase up to a certain point, and then decrease toward zero. This behavior can be attributed to the increasing number of contacts in the mixed lubrication regime. øx in the presence of elastic deformation on the surface is larger than øx in the absence of it because local film thickness( h$\_$T/) increases by elastic deformation.

  • Although corticosteroid have been shown to stabilize lysosomal membranes and prevent release of hydrolytic enzymes, the mechanism of membrane stabilization remains obscure. This study described functional assessment of efficiency of methylprednisolone in GIK solution by using a isolated Rat Heart Model. Isolated rat heart were subjected to a 2-minute period of coronary infusion with a cold GIK or methylprednisolone mixed cold GIK solution immediately before and also at the midpoint of a 60-minute period of hypothermic [$10{\pm}1^{\circ}C$] ischemic arrest. The result of this were as follow: 1.Spontaneous heart beat after ischemic arrest occurred 11 second later after Langendorffs reperfusion in the methylprednisolone mixed GIK group and 14 second later in the control group. 2.The percentage of recoveries of heart rate at 30 minute after postischemic working heart perfusion was 88.6\ulcorner.6% in the methylprednisolone mixed GIK group. This percentage of recovery was not significantly greater than the control group. 3.The percentage of heart function at 30 minute after postischemic working heart perfusion were; peak aortic pressure $90.8{\pm}4.5%$ coronary flow $87.5{\pm}1.45$ and aortic flow $74.9{\pm}11.8%$ in the methylprednisolone mixed GIK group. This percentage of recovery was significantly greater than the control group. [p<0.05]

  • To estimate dispersion stability of particles in anionic and nonionic surfactant mixed solution, suspending power was examined as functions of duration time of suspension, ionic and nonionic surfactant mixed ratio, surfactant concentration, kinds of electrolyte, ionic strength and mole numbers of oxyethylene additions to nonionic surfactant using $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ particle as the model of particulate soil. The suspending power of anionic and nonionic surfactant mixed solution was relatively higher than that of anionic and nonionic surfactant single solution regardless of solution concentration. The suspending power was gradually decreased with increasing duration time of suspension. In the absence of electrolyte, the effect of surfactant concentration on suspending power was small but in solution with electrolyte, suspending power was lowest at 1 % surfactant concentration. With 1${\times}$10$^{-3}$ ionic strength and polyanionic electrolyte in solution, the suspending power was high but effects of oxyethylene mole number to nonionic surfactant on suspending power was small. Generally the suspending power was gradually increased with decreasing the particle size. Hence the suspending power was inversely related to the particle size.

  • Unit level logistic regression model with mixed effects has been used for estimating small area proportions, which treats the spatial effects as random effects and assumes linearity between the logistic link and the covariates. However, when the functional form of the relationship between the logistic link and the covariates is not linear, it may lead to biased estimators of the small area proportions. In this paper, we relax the linearity assumption and propose two types of kernel-based logistic regression models for estimating small area proportions. We also demonstrate the efficiency of our propose models using simulated data and real data.

  • It is commonly believed that diseases of human or economic traits of livestock are caused not by single genes acting alone, but multiple genes interacting with one another. This issue is difficult due to the limitations of parametric-statistic methods of gene effects. So we introduce multifactor-dimensionality reduction(MDR) as a methods for reducing the dimensionality of multilocus information. The MDR method is nonparametric (i. e., no hypothesis about the value of a statistical parameter is made), model free (i. e., it assumes no particular inheritance model) and is directly applicable to case-control studies. Application of the MDR method revealed the best model with an interaction effect between the SNPs, SNP1 and SNP3, while only one main effect of SNP1 was statistically significant for LMA (p < 0.01) under a general linear mixed model.

  • As information technology rapidly develops and the period required to enter new technology shortens, there emerges a wide variety of alternatives for consumers. When there are many alternatives in the market, users choose after making comparisons. This process of making comparisons is our research key. We established a research model to find a mixed effect that comes from new attitudes to technology adoption and alternative's continuous usage intention. The effect is revealed through a relative attractiveness (RA) factor to explain a user's process of comparison. We empirically test our research model in the new media services, such as mobile TV, web TV, and mobile IPTV. According to our research results, a continuous usage intention of an existing technology is an important factor to explain the adoption of a new technology. So, the contribution of our research is in finding a role for the RA factor in research in new technology adoption.

  • The regularity effect for printed word recognition and naming depends on ambiguities between single letters (small grain-size) and their phonemic values. As a given word is repeated and becomes more familiar, letter-aggregate size (grain-size) is predicted to increase, thereby decreasing the ambiguity between spelling pattern and phonological representation and, therefore, decreasing the regularity effect. Lexical decision and naming tasks studied the effect of repetition on the regularity effect for words. The familiarity of a word from was manipulated by presenting low and high frequency words as well as by presenting half the stimuli in mixed upper- and lowercase letters (an unfamiliar form) and half in uniform case. In lexical decision, the regularity effect was initially strong for low frequency words but became null after two presentations; in naming it was also initially strong but was merely reduced (although still substantial) after three repetitions. Mixed case words were recognized and named more slowly and tended to show stronger regularity effects. The results were consistent with the primary hypothesis that familiar word forms are read faster because they are processed at a larger grain-size, which requires fewer operations to achieve lexical selection. Results are discussed in terms of a neurobiological model of word recognition based on brain imaging studies.

  • In Korea, accidents related to the collapse of deteriorated aging reservoirs occur every year. The grouting method is generally applied to reinforce an aging reservoir. However, when using this method, different reinforcing effects appear depending on the ground conditions. Thus, new construction methods and materials capable of providing consistent reinforcing effects are required. In this study, the direct shear test (DST), model test, and simulation analysis were performed to evaluate the impact of surface stabilizers, generally used to reinforce roads, rivers, and slopes of roads, applied using surface curtain walls on aging reservoirs. The DST results indicate that when the surface stabilizer was mixed with in-situ soil, the increase in cohesion was the highest at a mixing ratio of 9%. No changes in the friction angle were evident; therefore, 9% was determined to be the optimal mixing ratio. In addition, the model test and simulation analysis showed that when 9% of the surface stabilizer was mixed and applied to the aging reservoir, the seepage quantity of water and the saturated area were reduced by approximately 42% and 73%, respectively. Moreover, the comprehensive analysis of results showed that the grouting method could be completely replaced by surface stabilizers applied through surface curtain walls because the technique could secure stability by decreasing the seepage in the aging reservoir.

  • Amiodarone hydrochloride is an antiarrhythmic agent which has low aqueous solubility and presents bioavailability problem. These properties are a challenge for the pharmaceutical industry. Inclusion of lipophilic compound in the hydrophobic core of micelles, i.e. self-assembled structures based on surfactants in aqueous solution, is one way of increasing the solubility. Intravenous formulation of amiodarone hydrochloride with polysorbate 80 as a detergent and benzyl alcohol as a co-solvent is used in medical practice. This paper aimed to study the effect of polysorbate 80 and benzyl alcohol on the water solubility of amiodarone hydrochloride. Formation of mixed micelles consisting of nonionic surfactant polysorbate 80 and cationic amiodarone with chloride counterion was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. Benzyl alcohol was found to decrease the stability of the mixed micelles and lead to crystallization of amiodarone hydrochloride. The greatest amounts of crystals formed at 4℃ for 30 days in the model drug solutions with polysorbate 80 concentrations of 100.1 mg/mL and 97.9 mg/mL. A change of the polysorbate 80 concentration and avoidance the use of benzyl alcohol are recommended to improve the stability of the parenteral dosage form. These results can open new perspectives in the optimization of amiodarone intravenous formulations.

  • A theoretical one-dimensional model for the charging process in stratified thermal storage tanks is established presuming that the fluid ensuing from the tank inlet creates a perfectly mixed, layer above the thermocline. Both the generic and asymptotic closed-form solutions are obtained via the Laplace transformation. The asymptotic solution describes the nature of the charging pertaining to the case of no thermal diffusion, whereas the generic solution is of practical importance to understand the role of operating parameters on the stratification. The present model is validated through comparison with available experimental data, where they agree well with each other within a reasonable limit. An interpretation of the exact solution entails two important features associated with the charging process. The first is that an in-crease in the mixing depth $h_m$ causes a relatively slow temperature rise in the perfectly mixed region, but on the other hand it results in a faster decay of the overall temperature gradient across the thermocline. Next is the predominance of the mixing depth in the presence of the prefectly mixed region. In such a case the effect of the Peclet number is marginal and there-fore the thermal characteristics are solely dependent on the mixing depth paticularly for large $h_m$. The Peclet number affects significantly only for the case without mixing. Variation of the storage efficiency in response to the change in the mass flow rate agrees favorably with the published experimental results, which confirms the utility of the present study.
