THE STUDY ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN IMAGE LAYER AND IMAGE PRODUCTION OF THE ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH. (ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH에서 IMAGE LAYER와 상조성 관계에 대한 연구)

  • The study was performed in order to avoid misunderstanding of the image production in the orthopantomograph and auther tried artificially, the object was not placed on the image layer children who was in mixed dentition was taken with 3 sheets of the film at one time. The results were obtained as following; 1. If the object was placed in front of the image layer and back of it, width of the anterior teeth was narrowed and widened. 2. If the object's midline was not placed on the median line of the equipment, the one side was narrowed and the another side was widened. 3. If the head was inclined upward and downward, the former was shown V shape and the latter was shown inverted V shape outline of the arches. 4. In mixed dentition, auther obtained in each other that the image layer was placed on the deciduous arch, on the permanent arch, in the middle of the deciduous teeth and permanent teeth at one exposure.

Basic Dental Health Survey on Cleft Lip and Palate Patients at Early Mixed Dentition and Early Permanent Dentition Period (초기혼합치열기, 초기영구치열기 구순, 구개열 아동의 기초치아건강실태에 관한 조사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the basic conditions of dental health of cleft lip and palate patients at early mixed dentition (7-year-old, experimental group A) and early permanent dentition period (12,13-year old, experimental group B) and compare them with those of normal children. The sample was consisted of 25 patients at the age of 7 years, 15 at the age of 12 years and 5 at the age of 13 years. Two trained dentists examined orthopantomographs and clinical photos at the first visit of each patient and distinguished the states by teeth and dental surface and filled them on the prescribed forms. DMF rate, DMF index, FT rate, mean number of permanent teeth with fissure sealants, DMFS index and mean percentage of caries experienced maxillary anterior 6 teeth by tooth type are calculated and compared to those of other studies examined normal children. Oral hygiene of experimental groups is poorer than control groups'. Preventive and treatment rate of experimental groups' are lower than control groups'. More concem and effort are needed about prevention and treatment of dental caries of cleft lip and palate patients.

A ROENTGENOCEPHALOMETRIC STUDY OF THE CHILDREN IN THE DECIDUOUS DENTITION (유치열기 아동의 두부방사선 계측학적 연구)

  • The present study was performed to establish the cephalometric standards of Hellman dental age II C groups of Korean on the roentgenocephalometry. The subjects consisted of 26 males and 25 females with normal occlusion and acceptable profile. The major conclusions may be listed as follows: 1) The tables of standard deviation from the measurements were made. 2) All linear measurements of skeletal pattern in male were greater than in female with exception of the mandibular body length measurement. 3) The labial inclinations of the upper and lower incisors were greater in female than in male. 4) Vertical growth tendency of the face nab conformed in the late primary dentition as compared with the measurements of the mixed dentition.

  • Tooth eruption disturbance is seen commonly in mixed dentition or early permanent dentition. During this period of time, children experience the growth and development of craniofacial skeleton and dentition, so the impaction and eruption disturbance of permanent teeth make many problems in oral and maxillofacial areas. Eruption guidance of impacted tooth is not simple because many factors related to impaction are considered. Several factors such as etiology, tooth development stage, location of impacted teeth or eruption pathway, patient cooperation, etc. need to be taken into consideration in deciding the management of the impacted tooth. In the present study, it was assessed the etiology and impaction status of impacted tooth through various cases, and try to explain the treatment method to guide eruption by surgical exposure.

ERUPTION AND AUTOTRANSPLANTATION OF A PERMANENT TOOTH RELATED TO DENTIGEROUS CYST IN MIXED DENTITION (혼합치열기의 함치성 낭종 치료 시 영구치의 맹출과 자가치아이식)

  • Purpose: Dentigerous cyst is the most common intra-osseous lesion of the jaw. Dentigerous cysts can cause delays in eruption of the affected permanent tooth in mixed dentition. It has been suggested that the affected permanent tooth could be erupted spontaneously after the dentigerous cyst was enucleated. But in some cases, orthodontic treatment or autotransplantation technique is known to be required. This study reviews previously performed prognoses of affected permanent teeth, which will lead to a more efficient treatment plan. Patients and Methods: With 28 patients who have undergone cyst enucleation and 10 patients who have undergone autotransplantation, the prognosis of permanent teeth was observed. Results: After cyst enucleation, spontaneous eruption of a permanent tooth was observed in 56.3% patients, orthodontic treatment was performed in 25% patients. The success rate of autotransplantation was 60.0%. Discussion: The first choice for treatment of dentigerous cyst in mixed dentition is to guide spontaneous eruption of permanent teeth. For cases without enough eruption space, the orthodontic treatment should be considered. Autotransplantation should be considered when the spontaneous eruption is not expected. It should be considered that the rate of successful autotransplantation is decreased on maxilla anterior area.

  • Short root anomaly (SRA) is very rare, but can be problematic for physicians because patients with SRA are more vulnerable to root resorption with orthodontic forces. During the mixed dentition period, it may be difficult to diagnose generalized SRA. This article reports the treatment of an orthodontic patient with SRA at the early mixed dentition stage. Despite local tooth loss, a relatively favorable outcome was obtained without excessive root resorption. Ultimately, orthodontic therapy is possible for patients with generalized SRA, but precautions should be taken to avoid complications, such as tooth loss or root resorption.

  • In children with Class III malocclusion, it is important to identify whether the etiology is functional, dental, skeletal. FR-III developed by Rolf Frankel in 1970, has been used during deciduous, mixed, and early permanent dentition to correct class III malocclusion characterized by maxillary skeletal retrusion. According Frankel, the vestibular shields and upper labial pads act to counteract the forces of the surrounding musculature that restrict forward maxillary development and cause a retrusion in maxillary tooth position. This can achieve favorable developments with the basal bone, teeth and alveolar bone. We report FR-III that can be applicated in cases of early mixed dentition with mild maxillary deficiency and deepbite before the eruption of permanent maxillary incisor.
