  • The present experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of single-sex or mixed rearing on the growth and laying performance, blood parameters, egg quality, and feather scores of laying hens in an aviary system. A total of 2,928 (females, 2,856; males, 72), Hy-Line Brown chickens at 20 weeks were evenly assigned to two treatments: termed here the single-sex (only female) and mixed-sex (female to male 20 : 1) conditions. They were allowed an ad libitum diet for 20 weeks in an aviary system. There were eight replicates of each treatment, each consisting of 12.42 m2·birds-1 (n=183), respectively. The body weight and uniformity in the mixed-sex condition were higher than those in the single-sex condition, but egg production did not show any significant differences between the two types of treatment for 20 weeks. The mixed-sex group showed an effect through stress parameters (corticosterone), whereas the feather score on the back was low at the end of the experiment. These results suggest that the presence of males affect corticosterone level for mating but can reduce the vigilance and aggressive behavior of laying hens.

  • In this study, experimental approach of the measurement of condensation and evaporation heat transfer coefficients is discussed for mixed refrigerants using in the ultra low-temperature cooling system for semiconductor etching process. An experimental apparatus was described performing the condensation and evaporation heat transfer measurements for mixed refrigerants. The mixed refrigerant used in this study was composed of the optimal mixture determined in previous research, with a composition of Ar:R14:R23:R218 = 0.15:0.4:0.15:0.3. The experiments were conducted over a temperature range from -82℃ to 15℃ and at pressures ranging from 18.5 bar to 5 bar. The convection heat transfer coefficients of the mixed refrigerant were measured at flow rates corresponding to actual operating conditions. The condensation heat transfer coefficient ranged from approximately 0.7 to 0.9 kW/m2K, while the evaporation heat transfer coefficient ranged from 1.0 to 1.7 kW/m2K. The detailed discussion of the experimental methods, procedures, and results were described in this paper.

  • The construction of shield tunnelling in urban sites is facing serious risks from complex and changeable underground conditions. Construction problems in the sand-clay mixed ground have been more reported in recent decades for its poor control of soil loss in tunnel face, ground settlement and supporting pressure. Since the limitations of observation methods, the conventional physical modelling experiments normally simplify the tunnelling to a plane strain situation whose results are not reliable in mixed ground cases which exhibit more complicated responses. We propose a new method for the study of the mixed ground tunnel through which mixed lays are simulated with transparent soil surrogates exhibiting different mechanical properties. An experimental framework for the transparent soil modelling of the mixed ground tunnel was established incorporated with the self-developed digital image correlation system (PhotoInfor). To understand better the response of face stability, ground deformation, settlement and supporting phenomenon to tunnelling excavation in the sand-clay mixed ground, a series of case studies were carried out comparing the results from cases subjected to different buried depths and mixed phenomenon. The results indicate that the deformation mode, settlement and supporting phenomenon vary with the mixed phenomenon and buried depth. Moreover, a stratigraphic effect exists that the ground movement around mixed face reveals a notable difference.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of catechin on the changes of microsomal mixed function oxidase(MFO) system and oxidative damage in rat liver exposed to microwave. Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 200$\pm$10g body weight were randomly assigned to one normal and microwave exposed groups: microwave exposed groups were divided three groups: catechin free diet(MW) group, 0.25% catechin(MW+0.25C) group and 0.5% catechin(MW+0.5C) group to the levels of dietary catechin supplementation. The rats were irradiated with microwave at frequency 2.45GHz for 15 min and then the changes pattern of mixed function oxidase system and oxidative damage were investigated for 16 days. The activity of XOD in MW group was increased from 4 day to 8 days after irradiation, compared to normal group and decreased to the level of normal group 16 days. But catechin supplementation group were maintained to the normal level. The contents of cytochrome P(sub)450 and NADPH cytochrome P(sub)450 reductase activities in liver of MW group was increased from 4 day to 8 day after irradiation, compared to normal group and decreased to the level of normal group at 16 day. But catechin supplementation group were recovered to the normal level. The contents of superoxide radical in liver of MW group was increased 1.28, 1.25, 1.17 fold of normal group at 4,6 and 8 days days after irradiation. respectively, but catechin supplementation group were maintained the normal level. The contents of lipifuscin in liver have a same tendency in superoxide radical contents. These result suggested that the supplementation of catechin have control the mixed function oxidase system and oxidative damage and that may help to recover tissues from microwave damage. • The ZnO surge arrester is the protective device for limiting surge voltages on equipment by diverting surge current and returning the device to its original status. The occurrence of overvoltage appears in any phase to AC power supply system and it appears in mixing AC and impulse voltages, moreover because HVDC power supply system uses converter in semiconductor, it makes mixed DC and high harmonics voltages. In this study, the various mixed AC and DC voltages was made for investigating the degradation effect of ZnO arrester according to mixed voltage. As a result, the increase of DC component to mixed voltages causes the increase of resistive component of total leakage current to ZnO block. In changing V-I curve for mixed voltages, the cross-over point acts a factor as making the proper capacitor size of an equivalent circuit for ZnO block.

  • An optimal unit commitment model for efficient management of water and energy resources in a basin using combined mixed integer programming is developed. The combined mixed integer programming model is able to solve the inconsistency problem that may occur from mixed integer programming models. The technique which enables the use of conditional constraints and either-or constraints in the linear programming is also suggested. As a result of applying the combined mixed integer programming model to Lower Colorado River Basin in United States. the basin efficiency is decreased by 1.53% from the results of the mixed integer programming, while it is increased by 0.67% from the results of the historical operation. It is found that the decreased allowable error between power supplies and demands in the combined mixed integer programming causes the decreased basin efficiency.

  • This paper investigates the problems of grouping N products on an assembly line with an objective of maximizing the option grouping rate. Before developing a mixed model grouping algorithm, simulation studies are committed for developing operating rules and evaluating the layout production systems. A mixed model grouping algorithm is suggested and it is applied to the color selection lane in automobile production system, which reveals a high mixed model grouping rate.

  • In this paper, by establishing the direct method of moving planes for the fractional Laplacian system with positive-negative mixed powers, we obtain the radial symmetry and monotonicity of the positive solutions for the fractional Laplacian systems with positive-negative mixed powers in the whole space. We also give two special cases.

  • In this paper, a robust controller using $H_{\infty}$ control theory has been designed for the load frequency control of interconnected 2-area power system. The main advantage of the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller is that uncertainties of power system can be included at the stage of controller design. Representation of uncertainties is modeled by multiplicative uncertainly. In the mixed sensitivity problems, disturbance attenuation and uncertainty of the system is treated simultaneously. The robust stability and the performance of model uncertainties are represented by frequency weighted transfer function. The design of load frequency controller for each area was based on state-space approach. The comparative computer simulation results for the proposed controller and the conventional techniques such as the optimal control and the PID one were analyzed at the additions of various disturbances. Their deviation magnitude of frequency and tie line power flow at each area were mainly evaluated. Also the testing results of robustness for the cases that the perturbations of the all parameters of power system were amounted to about 20% were introduced. It was approved that the resultant performances of the proposed $H_{\infty}$ controller with mixed sensitivity were more robust and stable than the one of conventional controllers.
