  • The purposes of the present article are to suggest pragmatism as offering a philosophical paradigm for mixed methods research, to explain the fundamental principles of mixed methodology, and to present examples of research for understanding how to apply it to family studies. Mixed methods research is the class of research where the researcher mixes or combines quantitative and qualitative techniques, methods, approaches, concepts or language into a single study. Mixed methodology has its roots in pragmatism, which is a new philosophical paradigm to criticize the traditional dualism and to endorse eclecticism and pluralism. The present article argues that mixed methods research has the potential to answer a broader and more complete range of research questions, and to provide strong evidence for a conclusion through convergence and corroboration of the qualitative and the quantitative methods.

  • Mixed-mode (MM) designs in which data are collected by different modes in one design have become increasingly popular. An MM data collection has several advantages such as reductions of coverage error, non-response and cost. However, MM designs may introduce mode effects that are confounded by selection effects and measurement effects, which can make MM data quality poor. In order to investigate mode effects, SRI implemented a concurrent mixed-mode experiment in 2014 where respondents could choose between a self-administrated Web survey and a self-administrated paper survey. This paper separately estimates selection effects and measurement effects. We found that measurement effects on some items are large.

  • This paper introduces a systematic top-down and bottom-up design methodology to assist the designer in the implementation of continuous-time (CT) cascade sigma-delta (${\Sigma}{\Delta}$) modulators. The salient features of this methodology are (a) flexible behavioral modeling for optimum accuracy-efficiency trade-offs at different stages of the top-down synthesis process, (b) direct synthesis in the continuous-time domain for minimum circuit complexity and sensitivity, (c) mixed knowledge-based and optimization-based architectural exploration and specification transmission for enhanced circuit performance, and (d) use of Pareto-optimal fronts of building blocks to reduce re-design iterations. The applicability of this methodology will be illustrated via the design of a 12-bit 20 MHz CT ${\Sigma}{\Delta}$ modulator in a 1.2 V 130 nm CMOS technology.

  • Although many studies demonstrate that one technique outperforms the others for a given data set, there is often no way to tell a priori which of these techniques will be most effective in the classification problems. Alternatively, it has been suggested that a better approach to classification problem might be to integrate several different forecasting techniques. This study proposes the linearly combining methodology of different classification techniques. The methodology is developed to find the optimal combining weight and compute the weighted-average of different techniques' outputs. The proposed methodology is represented as the form of mixed integer programming. The objective function of proposed combining methodology is to minimize total misclassification cost which is the weighted-sum of two types of misclassification. To simplify the problem solving process, cutoff value is fixed and threshold function is removed. The form of mixed integer programming is solved with the branch and bound methods. The result showed that proposed methodology classified more accurately than any of techniques individually did. It is confirmed that Proposed methodology Predicts significantly better than individual techniques and the other combining methods.

  • This paper presents a new method that can efficiently solve the integrated problem of line balancing and model sequencing in mixed model assembly lines (MMALs). Line balancing and model sequencing are important for an efficient use of MMALs. The two problems of balancing and sequencing MMALs are tightly related with each other. However, In almost all the existing researches on mixed-model production lines, the two problems have been considered separately. In this research, an endosymbiotic evolutionary a1gorithm, which is a kind of coevolutionary a1gorithm, is adopted as a methodology in order to solve the two problems simultaneously. This paper shows how to apply an endosymbiotic evolutionary a1gorithm to solving the integrated problem. Some evolutionary schemes are used In the a1gorithm to promote population diversity and search efficiency. The proposed a1gorithm is compared with the existing evolutionary algorithms in terms of solution quality and convergence speed. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of our approach.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to investigate about the various metamorphosis methodology, which is one of the specific skill being used widely in contemporary metal-craft. Even though this methodology is being investigated actively in the other genre, it is not easy to find the example and various experimentation for further expression than in metal craft. The metamorphosis had been dealed little by little before the metal-craft is being modernized. Recentely, the experimentation is more deeply and widely held; because the deconstruction methodology, which is the skill to express the differance in the meaning: material's archetype and dealing with the symbol and metaphorical meanings concealed, is being developed. The special skills of the metamorphosis are Mokumegane, reticulation, Fusing, and electro form Mixed Media metamorphosis; these investigation is being further developed with metal alloy methodology.

  • The goal of this research is to apply the neural networks models for the disaggregation of the pan evaporation (PE) data, Republic of Korea. The neural networks models consist of generalized regression neural networks model (GRNNM) and multilayer perceptron neural networks model (MLP-NNM), respectively. The disaggregation means that the yearly PE data divides into the monthly PE data. And, for the performances of the neural networks models, they are composed of training and test performances, respectively. The training data consist of the mixed data The mixed data involves the historic data and the generated data using PARMA (1,1). And, the testing data consist of the only historic data, respectively. From this research, we evaluate the impact of GRNNM and MLP-NNM for the disaggregation of the nonlinear time series data. We should, furthermore, construct the credible data of the monthly PE data from the disaggregation of the yearly PE data, and can suggest the methodology for the irrigation and drainage networks system.
