Optimum Allocation Model of Military Engineer Equipments for Artillery Position Development (포병진지 구축을 위한 공병장비 최적배정 모형)

  • The artillery is a key element of the ground forces operation during wartime, and the military engineers support the artillery position development operation to support the smooth operation of the artillery. In establishing the artillery position development operation plan, the commander requires more than his intuition to find the best option reflecting a number of elements of the battlefield situation which changes every minute. Moreover, the number of available equipment is smaller than the number of required position developments, and the effective equipment operation becomes essential element of this issue. This study quantified the capability of the available engineering equipment, organized a number of teams enabling equipment to put out the maximum capacity based on the quantified figures, and formed the model which allocates the team to the developing points to minimize the developing time. The goal programming method was applied to resolve the problem. The developed model was applied to compare the total mission duration following the number of teams, the variable for commander's decision, and the result of this study can be used as the quantitative data for commander's decision making process in establishing the artillery position development support operation through effective equipment management.

A Simultaneous Delivery and Pick-up Heterogeneous Vehicle Routing Problem with Separate Loading Area (다품종 독립 적재공간을 갖는 배달과 수거를 동시에 고려한 차량경로문제)

  • As a special topic of the vehicle routing problems (VRP), VRPSDP extends the vehicle routing problem as considering simultaneous pickup and delivery for goods. The past studies have mainly dealt with a only weight constraint of a loading capacity for heterogeneous products. However. this study suggests VRPSDP considering separate loading area according to characteristics of loading species. The objective is to design a set of minimum distance routes for the vehicle routing assignment with independent capacity for heterogeneous species. And then we present a another HVRPSDP model which is easy to utilizes in a unique circumstance that is a guarantee of executing a task simultaneously from the various areas under restricted time and raising an application of vehicles that returns at the depot for the next mission like the military group. The optimal results of the suggested mathematical models are solved by the ILOG CPLEX software ver. 12.4 that is provided by IBM company.

A Study on the Improvement of Searching Performance of Autonomous Flight UAVs Based on Flocking Theory (플로킹 이론 기반 자율정찰비행 무인항공기의 탐색성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • In conducting a mission to explore and track targets using a number of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs), performance for that mission may vary significantly depending on the operating conditions of the UAVs such as the number of operations, the altitude, and what future flight paths each aircraft decides based on its current position. However, studies on the number of operations, operating conditions, and flight patterns of unmanned aircraft in these surveillance missions are insufficient. In this study, several types of flight simulations were conducted to detect and determine targets while multiple UAVs were involved in the avoidance of collisions according to various autonomous flight algorithms based by flocking theory, and the results were presented to suggest a more efficient/effective way to control a number of UAVs in target detection missions.

  • Space systems are operating in a changing and uncertain space environment and are desired to have autonomous capability for long periods of time without frequent telecommunications from the ground station At the same time. requirements for new set of projects/systems calling for ""autonomous"" operations for long unattended periods of time are emerging. Since, by the nature of space systems, it is desired that they perform their mission flawlessly and also it is of extreme importance to have fault-tolerant sensor/actuator sub-systems for the purpose of validating science measurement data for the mission success. Technology innovations attendant on autonomous data validation and health monitoring are articulated for a growing class of autonomous operations of space systems. The greatest need is on focus research effort to the development of a new class of fault-tolerant space systems such as attitude actuators and sensors as well as validation of measurement data from scientific instruments. The characterization for the next step in evolving the existing control processes to an autonomous posture is to embed intelligence into actively control. modify parameters and select sensor/actuator subsystems based on statistical parameters of the measurement errors in real-time. This research focuses on the identification/demonstration of critical technology innovations that will be applied to Autonomous Spacecraft Health Monitoring/Data Validation Control Systems (ASHMDVCS). Analysis of the Collision Probability and Mission Environment for GEO (지구정지궤도위성 충돌확률 및 임무궤도 환경 분석)

  • The increasing number of orbital debris objects is a risk for satellite operations due to space activities over past 50 years since launched Sputnik. The GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit), where COMS-1 is being operated since last June 2010, has more and more risks that collide with space debris or another satellites. In this paper, as a preliminary study about GEO satellite collision probability and operations environment, collision probability between COMS-1 and RADUGA 1-7 that is one of Russian military communication satellites is investigated and analyzed. Indeed, the space environment including space debris of COMS-1 is presented. As a result, it is noted that collision probability between two satellites using NORAD TLEs on 14th Jan. 2011 was 2.8753E-07 in case that position uncertainty was assumed 10km. Particularly, the largest proportion of space debris around COMS-1's mission orbit is meteoroids.

  • As the core technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution is applied to drone, the potential for growth in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles is very large, and the utilization of civilian & military fields in the domestic & foreign is increasing rapidly. Because application areas of drone in the civilian field is various, it is excellent in terms of cost effectiveness and high value in utilization when it is used for military operation support mission. Especially, in the case of the Air Force, it is expected that military usage effectiveness will be high if drone replaces various air operations support missions such as aircraft inspection, supply of military supplies, base security. We find out the missions that can utilize drones for military operations support and propose the recommendation and data management plan accordingly. We recommend the most suitable drones and equipment that perform similar missions in the private sector and propose the data modeling of relational database.

  • Multi-Spectral Camera(MSC) is a payload on the KOMPSAT -2 satellite to perform the earth remote sensing. The instrument images the earth using a push-broom motion with a swath width of 15 km and a ground sample distance (GSD) of 1 m over the entire field of view (FOV) at altitude 685 Km. The instrument is designed to have an on-orbit operation duty cycle of $20\%$ over the mission lifetime of 3 years with the functions of programmable gain! offset and onboard image data compression/storage. MSC instrument has one(1) channel for panchromatic Imaging and four(4) channel for multi-spectral Imaging covering the spectral range from 450nm to 900nm using TDI CCD Focal Plane Array (FPA). In this paper, the configuration, the interface of MSC hardware and the MSC operation concept are described. And the method of the MSC calibration are described and the design of MSC calibration operation to measure the change of MSC after Launch & Early Operation(LEOP) and normal mission operations are discussed and analyzed.

NORAD TLE TYPE ORBIT DETERMINATION OF LEO SATELLITES USING GPS NAVIGATION SOLUTIONS

  • NORAD Two Line Elements (TLE) are widely used for the increasing number of small satellite mission operations and analysis. However, due to the irregular periodicity of generation of the NORAD TLE, a new TLE that is independent of NORAD is required. A TLE type Orbit Determination (TLEOD) has been developed for the generation of a new TLE. Thus, the TLEOD system can provide an Antenna Control Unit (ACU) with the orbit determination result in the type of a TLE, which provides a simple interface for the commercialized ACU system. For the TLEOD system, NORAD SGP4 was used to make a new orbit determination system. In addition, a least squares method was implemented for the TLEOD system with the GPS navigation solutions of the KOMPSAT-1. Considering both the Orbit Propagation (OP) difference and the tendency of $B^{*}$ value, the preferable span of the day in the observation data was selected to be 3 days. Through the OD with 3 days observation data, the OP difference was derived and compared with that of Mission Analysis and Planning (MAPS) for the KOMPSAT-1. It has the extent from 2 km after sit days to 4 km after seven days. This is qualified enough for the efficiency of an ACU in image reception and processing center of the KOMPSAT-2.

  • Since the optimized use of sonar systems for target tracking is a practical problem for naval operations, the measure of mission achievability is needed for preparing efficient sonar-maneuver tactic. In order to quantify the mission achievability or Measure Of Effectiveness(MOE) for given sonar-maneuver tactics, we developed and tested a simulation algorithm. The proposed algorithm for tracking is based on Measure Of Performance(MOP) for localization and tracking system of sonar against target. Probability of Detection(PD) using steering beam patterns referenced to the aspect angle of sonar is presented to consider the tracking-performance of sonar. Also, the integrated software package, named as Optimal Acoustic Search Path Planning(OASPP) is used for generating sonar-maneuver patterns and vulnerability analysis for a given scenario. Through simulation of a simple case for which the intuitive solution is known, the proposed algorithm is verified.

  • Euclid is an optical/near-infrared survey mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) to investigate the nature of dark energy, dark matter and gravity by observing the geometry of the Universe and the formation of structures over cosmological timescales. The Euclid spacecraft mechanical architecture comprises the Payload Module (PLM) and the Service Module (SVM) connected by an interface structure designed to maximize thermal and mechanical decoupling. This paper shortly illustrates the mechanical system of the spacecraft and the mechanical verification philosophy which is based on the Structural and Thermal Model (STM), built at flight standard for structure and thermal qualification and the Proto Flight Model (PFM), used to complete the qualification programme. It will be submitted to a proto-flight test approach and it will be suitable for launch and flight operations. Within the overall verification approach crucial mechanical tests have been successfully performed (2018) on the SVM platform and on the sunshield (SSH) subsystem: the SVM platform static test, the SSH structure modal survey test and the SSH sine vibration qualification test. The paper reports the objectives and the main results of these tests.
