  • Methods : This study was conducted to carry out quantitative evaluation using HPLC Content analysis was done using HPLC Results : According to HPLC analysis, each BVA-1 contained approximately $0.36{\mu}g$ melittin, and BVA-2 contained approximately $0.54{\mu}g$ melittin. But the volume of coating was so minute, slight difference exists between each needle. Conclusions : Above results indicate that the bee venom acupuncture can complement shortcomings of syringe usage as a part of Oriental medicine treatment, but extensive researches should be done for further verification.

  • The potential for enhancing myocardial protection by adding high-energy phosphate to cardioplegic solutions [St. Thomas Hospital solution] was investigated in a rat heart model of cardiopulmonary bypass and ischemic arrest. Creatine phosphate was evaluated as an additive to the St. Thomas Hospital cardioplegic solution. Creatine phosphate 10.0 mmol/L as the optimal concentration which improved recovery of aortic flow and cardiac output after a 30 minute period of normothermic [37oC] ischemic arrest. In comparing mechanical function in both groups the mean postischemic recoveries of aortic flow, cardiac output, stroke volume and stroke work [expressed as a percentage of its preischemic control] were significantly greater in STH-CP group than in CP- free control group. In addition to improving function and decreasing CK release, CP reduced reperfusion arrhythmias significantly decreasing the time between cross-clamp removal and return to regular rhythm from 81.8 * 13.9 [sec] in CP-free group to 35.9 * 6.8 [sec] in CP group [P< 0.05] so, exogenous CP exerts potent protective and antiarrhythmic effects when added to the St. Thomas Hospital cardioplegic solution. However, the mechanism of action remains to be elucidated.

  • The notebook system use the radial fan to cool the main chipsets which generate heat. It needs to improve cooling performance by increasing fan RPM or increasing fan volume. But the former accompanies acoustic noise problem and the latter has a limitation due to notebook height and cooling area. So this study shows fatal parameters in the fan performance view point, and optimization process with Design Of Experiment. With this result, the fan CFM increases with same size of fan and we can use it as a result of decreasing fan acoustic noise.

  • In this study, we investigated operating characteristics of the LNG burner for steam methane reforming. The developed LNG burner and catalytic reactor to supply an efficient heat transfer between the combustion gas and catalyst got a good response of various operating load within 5-7 minute and high efficiency for steam methane reforming as a conversion of methane over 90%. We calculated the volume of catalyst for $1Nm^3/hr$ steam LNG reforming as $211cc/(Nm^3/hr\;H_2)$ and got the operating condition and design data of the burner and steam reforming for LNG.

  • Recently we developed the concept of totally implantable electrohydraulic artificial heart. We tested the artificial heart which was drived by external compressive air in the calves. All three calves had pneumonia before surgery, so postoperative course was not only bad but also the results was not good. The first calf died severe pneumonia on 76th day, the second calf died from troublesome bleeding and uncertain allergic like reaction, and the third died because of bleeding. However, the performance of the artificial heart was good, and especially the blood contacting surface showed excellent hemocompatibility. The anatomic fitting was also very good even in the 35 Kg small newborn calf. During treadmill test, the first calf did not well tolerate for 1 minute but by the Full Fill Full Empty control method the artificial heart responsed well to the physiologic needs. In conclusion, the artificial heart had the very good hemocompatible surface, however, the volume of the artificial heart was a little deficient for the calf and the control algorithm needed further development.

  • Ventricular assist device(VAD) has been clinically applied as a temporary circulatory sup- porting system in the patients with severe heart failure, but small sized VAD for infant is not available. The purpose of tilis paper is to introdIAce small sized VAD and presents the result of in vitro test. Sejong VAD is diaphragmatic type of pneumatic pump and stroke volume is 11cc. Cardiac outputs of the Sejong VAD were measured by overflow tank under variable conditions of driving parameters. The cardiac output was 1.3 1/min at the heart rate of 120 per minute, left atrial pressure of $15cmH_2O$, percent systole of 43%, driving pressure of 240 mmHg, vacuum pressure of -40 mmHg, and mean aortic pressure of 70 mmHg. No mechanical problem was developed during the continuous in vitro test for 3 months.

  • To establish feline electroacupuncture anesthesia, 5 cats (mixed, 1 month old, 0.4~0.5 kg, female) were examined in the present study. The acupoints used for feline electroacupuncture anesthesia were Tian-ping and Bai-hui. After perpendicular insertion of needle to Tian-ping and Bai-hui, respectively, positive electrode was connected at Tian-ping and negative electrode was connected at Bai-hui, respectively, Electric condition was 3 V and 30 Hz. To examine the effect of electroacupuncture anesthesia, laparotomy (5 heads)was applied. The pain of the body surface and the extremities excluding the tail was not found, and the induction time of electroacupuncture anesthesia was approximately 1 minute. As for the reactions with electroacupuncture anesthesia, the head part was directed to backward, blepharoreaction was mild and the consciousness was vivid. The class of anesthesia effect was excellent in 4 heads and was poor in 1 head. The pain was not observed and bleeding was comparatively small volume during surgery in excellent group.

  • Graphite intercalation compounds (GIC) were prepared by direct reaction of $SO_3$ gas with flake graphite. The intercalated $SO_3$ molecules were ejected by rapid heating to $950^{\circ}C$ under an oxidizing atmosphere for about 1 minute, resulting in surprisingly high expansion in the direction of c-axis. The characteristics of the micro-structure and pore size distribution were examined with a SEM and mercury intrusion porosimetry. The XRD analysis and spectroscopic analysis were used for the identification of the graphite and surface chemistry state. The pore size distribution of the exfoliated graphite (EG) was a range of $1{\sim}170{\mu}m$. The higher expanding temperature the higher expanded volume, so oil sorption capacities were 58.8 g of bunker-C oil and 34.7 g of diesel oil per 1 g of the the EG. The sorption equilibrium was achieved very rapidly within several minutes. As the treatment temperature increases, bulk density decreases.

  • This study is intended to look into the influence of environment and construction factor on bleeding of concrete. According to the results, as wind is light, relative humidity is high and temperature is low, the amount of bleeding increases greatly, and evaporation speed is influenced greatly by order of wind, temperature and humidity. As the properties of bleeding by construction factor, the amount of bleeding increases with an increase of placing thickness, but the bleeding ratio, the amount of bleeding per unit volume, increases with a decrease of the placing thickness. Bleeding speed is fastest at about 90 minute after placing concrete. Also, as wind is light, relative humidity is high, temperature is low and the placing thickness is thick, bleeding speed grow faster.
