NMR Relaxometry of Water in Set Yogurt During Fermentation

  • The mobility of water in set yogurt during fermentation was studied using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry. The spin-spin relaxation was analyzed using a 2-fraction model, resulting in 2 spin-spin relaxation time constants $T_{21}$ and $T_{22}$. Both $T_{21}$ and $T_{22}$ exhibited rapid changes between 2 and 4 hr of fermentation, coinciding with the drop in pH and the rise in lactic acid bacteria count. The spin-lattice relaxation time $T_1$ increased over the fermentation period. Both $T_1$ and $T_2$ showed an increase in the mobility of water upon gel formation during fermentation. Water redistribution within the gel matrix due to casein aggregation and structure forming may be responsible for the changes in mobility.

  • Betulin, a pentacyclic triterpenoid isolated from the bark of Betula papyrifera. Laboratory synthesized structural analogs were tested for antiviral activities against Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) by immunofluorescent antiviral assay. Among the several analogs tested, betulin 3,28-diphosphate and uvaol exhibited significant antiviral activities against EBV. The $EC_{50}$ of betulin 3,28-diphosphate and uvaol was found to be $0.6\mu{M}$ and $0.7\mu{M}$ respectively.

  • Suitable replacement materials for ultrathin SiO2 in deeply scaled MOSFETs such as lattice polarizable films, which have much higherpermittivities than SiO2, have bandgaps of only 3.0 to 4.0 eV. Due to these small bandgaps, the reliability of these films as a gate insulator is a serious concern. Ramped voltage, time dependent dielectric breakdown, and hot carrier effect measurements were done on 190 layers of TiO2 which were deposited through the metal-organic chemical vapor deposition of titanium tetrakis-isopropoxide (TTIP). Measurements of the high and low frequency capacitance indicate that virtually no interface state are created during constant current injection stress. The increase in leakage upon electrical stress suggests that uncharged, near-interface states may be created in the TiO2 film near the SiO2 interfacial layer that allow a tunneling current component at low bias.

  • This paper present a algorithm for determination of the frontal QRS axis. Determination of electrical QRS axis helps In the differential diagnosis of wide QRS tachycardia and of hemiblock and In the localization of an accessory pathway. At first detecting R-point data and S-point data and two data is sumed and this data is determind such as positive or negative. Reference data is calculated by 9-point derivertives that is less affected by noise. Secondly, using data of lead2 calculate a morphology, this value is threshold for executing determination algorithm. This process is main body of this algorithm. As this algorithm have a six pattern of the axis that coded by minnesota ending method, the axis is determined more precisely than any other algorithm using 3 leads and affirm a relation of a axis and hemiblock and tachycardia.

  • A four-times-VDD switch that supports high and low voltage mode operations is demonstrated in a generic 65 nm logic process. The proposed switch shows the robust operation for supply voltages ranging from VDD to $4{\times}VDD$. A cascaded voltage switch and a voltage doubler based charge pump generate the intermediate supply voltage levels required for the proposed high voltage switch. All the high voltage circuits developed in this work can be implemented using standard logic transistors without being subject to any voltage overstress.

  • Alternations in usage of polyadenylation sites during transcription termination yield transcript isoforms from a gene. Recent findings of transcriptome-wide alternative polyadenylation (APA) as a molecular response to changes in biology position APA not only as a molecular event of early transcriptional termination but also as a cellular regulatory step affecting various biological pathways. With the development of high-throughput profiling technologies at a single nucleotide level and their applications targeted to the 3'-end of mRNAs, dynamics in the landscape of mRNA 3'-end is measureable at a global scale. In this review, methods and technologies that have been adopted to study APA events are discussed. In addition, various bioinformatics algorithms for APA isoform analysis using publicly available RNA-seq datasets are introduced.

  • This article focuses on the psychometric stability of the technology acceptance model (TAM) by Davis [8] when applied to laptop usage in the educational settings. Using a survey of 297 users, this research provides evidence that the TAM provides a model for a valid and reliable measure to use among students in assessing their perceptions of laptop usage. Given this evidence, those involved with implementation and training in laptop environment can confidently apply the instrument.

Parental Emotion Socialization in Military Families

  • Reintegration after military deployment is a significant family stressor. Guided by Eisenberg's heuristic model of socialization of emotions, the present study examined the relationships between parental emotion socialization, children's emotionality and children's internalizing symptoms using a military sample. It was also investigated whether gender of parents and children impacted parental emotion socialization. Questionnaires were gathered from 248 families with a 4-12 year old child (M = 7.78) in which a parent had been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. Children's emotionality was positively correlated with children's internalizing symptoms and non-supportive parental emotion socialization. Independent-t-tests and two-way ANOVAs showed that mothers reported more supportive reactions towards children's negative emotions than fathers. Father reports of expressive encouragement were positively associated with child reports of anxiety and depression. Child gender did not influence how parents responded to negative emotions. Implications and future directions were discussed.

  • This study explicitly identifies the main values that rural welfare recipients reveal when they talk about their experiences with welfare and welfare reform. An inductive analysis of values is conducted using interview data from 49 current and former recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) residing in the states of Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, and New York. Seven main values that emerge from the data are self-esteem, autonomy, uniqueness, advancement, security, independence, and fairness. A conceptual diagram of these values is developed to illustrate how these values are related
