  • A new design of the sliding mode control is proposed for the uncertain linear time-varying second order system. The proposed control drives system states to the target point in the minimum time with specified ranges of parametric uncertainties and disturbances. One of the advantages of the proposed control scheme is that the control inputs do not go beyond saturation limits of the actuators. The other advantage is that the minimum arrival time and the acceleration of the second order actuators system can be estimated with given parametric bounds and can be expressed in the closed from; conversely, the designer can select actuators based on the condition of the minimum arrival time to the target point. The superior performance of the proposed control scheme to other sliding mode controllers is validated by computer simulations.

  • In this paper, a new current controller with fast transient response is Proposed. The basic concept is to find the optimal control voltage for tracking the reference current with minimum time under the voltage limit constraint. The generalized solution of the minimum time current control in the systems are presented in this paper. With the generalized solution, the minimum time current controller can be easily applied to all the 3-phase balanced system. Through the simulation and the experiment, it is observed that the proposed controller has much less transient time than the conventional synchronous PI regulator.

  • Bang-bang control law provides the optimal solution for a minimum-time control problem, but ignores the intermediate path except for the initial and final points. In this paper, a near minimum-time suboptimal fuzzy logic controller is introduced that can control the intermediate path. A dynamic model for a system is established using the average dynamics method of linearization. System model is continuously updated over the control time periods. This makes it suitable for high speed or variable payload applications. Bang-bang control theory is modified and used to derive the preliminary control law. A fuzzy logic algorithm is then applied to adjust and find the best solution. The solution will provide the suboptimal minimum-time control law which can avoid obstacles in the workspace.

  • Incheon International Airport has handled 3,054,485 transfer passengers (11.9% transfer rate) and 950,441 transfer cargo(44.2% transfer rate)recorded in 2005. Comparing to 30-40% transfer passenger rate which are competition hub airports in northeast Asia, transfer passenger rate of Incheon International Airport is lower. Above all, We think that Minimum Connecting Time(MCT) which is relating factors with transfer rate need to be monitored to make up for the weak points in the current Incheon internationalairport system. Minimum Connecting Time is defined the legally minimum time necessary to change planes at a given airport. and Transfers represent 35% of the total passenger volume at Vienna International Airport in Europe, which underscores our function as a major international hub. Vienna is rated priority in reservation systems because of our excellent minimum connecting time, and that increases the sale of tickets through our airport. In 2004 the total number of transfer passengers rose 18% to 5,089,624. Short routes, a one roof concept and an outstanding logistics system make Vienna an ideal airport for transfers. This transfer-friendly one roof concept will also form the basis for the new VlE-Skylink Terminal. In case of Japan, Star Alliance has also implemented its so called "Move under one roof"concept at the new Centrair airport. All member carriers are located in the same part of the termina1, sharing check-in counters and ticketing facilities. Star Alliance member carriers can now offer customersa reduced average minimum connecting time of one hour, for transfers between international and domestic. The research purpose of the Study on the Enhancement for Minimum Connecting Time of Incheon International Airport is to increase transfer rate of passenger and cargo of Incheon International Airport at Northeast Asia through this paper.

  • As Steiner minimum tree building belongs to NP-Complete problem domain, heuristics for the problem ask for immense amount execution time and computations in numerous inputs. In this paper, we propose an efficient mechanism of euclidean Steiner minimum tree construction for numerous inputs using combination of Delaunay triangulation and Prim's minimum spanning tree algorithm. Trees built by proposed mechanism are compared respectively with the Prim's minimum spanning tree and minimums spanning tree based Steiner minimum tree. For 30,000 input nodes, Steiner minimum tree by proposed mechanism shows about 2.1% tree length less and 138.2% execution time more than minimum spanning tree, and does about 0.013% tree length less and 18.9% execution time less than minimum spanning tree based Steiner minimum tree in experimental results. Therefore the proposed mechanism can work moderately well to many useful applications where execution time is not critical but reduction of tree length is a key factor.

  • A robust minimum-time control (RMTC) strategy is addressed and it is extended to the dual-stage servo design. Rather than conventional switching type sub-optimal controls, it is a reference following control approach where the predetermined minimum-time trajectory (MTT) is tracked by the perturbation compensator based feedback controller. First, the minimum-time trajectory for a mass-damper system is derived. Then, the perturbation compensator to achieve robust tracking performance in spite of model uncertainty and external disturbance is suggested. The RMTC is also applied to the dual-stage positioner which consists of coarse actuator and fine one. To best utilize the actuation redundancy of the dual-stage mechanism, a null-motion controller to actively regulate the relative motion between the two stages is formulated. The performance of RMTC is validated through simulation and experiment.

  • We consider discrimination curve and minimum dwell time for Poisson distribution and Poisson-power function distribution. Let the random variable X has Poisson distribution with mean .lambda.. For the hypothesis testing H$\_$0/:.lambda. = t vs. H$\_$1/:.lambda. = d (d$\_$0/ if X.leq.c. Since a critical value c can not be determined to satisfy both types of errors .alpha. and .beta., we considered discrimination curve that gives the maximum d such that it can be discriminated from t for a given .alpha. and .beta.. We also considered an algorithm to compute the minimum dwell time which is needed to discriminate at the given .alpha. and .beta. for the Poisson counts and proved its convergence property. For the Poisson-power function distribution, we reject H$\_$0/ if X.leq..'{c}.. Since a critical value .'{c}. can not be determined to satisfy both .alpha. and .beta., similar to the Poisson case we considered discrimination curve and computation algorithm to find the minimum dwell time for the Poisson-power function distribution. We prosent this algorithm and an example of computation. It is found that the minimum dwell time algorithm fails for the Poisson-power function distribution if the aiming error variance .sigma.$\^$2/$\_$2/ is too large relative to the variance .sigma.$\^$2/$\_$1/ of the Gaussian distribution of intensity. In other words, if .ell. is too small, we can not find the minimum dwell time for a given .alpha. and .beta..

  • As a mathematical technique with which we can find the minimum duration time needed to fire all the transitions at least once and coming back to the initial marking in a timed net, the minimum cycle time method has been widely used in computer system analysis. A timed net is a modified version of a Petri net where a transition is associated with a delay time. A delay time used in a timed net is a constant even though the duration time associated with an event in the world is a stochastic number in general. In the consequence, the result of minimum cycle time analysis is not realistic. Therefore, we propose ‘Stochastic Timed Net' where a transition can be associated with a stochastic number and introduce a minimum cycle time analysis method for ‘Stochastic Timed Net’ As an example of the application of ‘Stochastic Timed Net’, we introduce a ‘Stochastic Timed Net' model of a Location Based Service Providing Multimedia System and the result of minimum cycle time analysis of it. Whereas the typical form of the result of the existing minimum cycle time analysis is 'It takes at least 10 time units', the typical form of the result of minimum cycle time analysis of a ‘Stochastic Timed Net' is in the probability form such as "The probability of the events in which it finishes its job within 10 time units is 85%."

  • The Euclidean distance is sensitive to the absolute offsets of time sequences, so it is not a suitable similarity measure in terms of shape. In this paper. we propose an indexing scheme for efficient matching and retrieval of time sequences based on the minimum distance. The minimum distance can give a better estimation of similarity in shape between two time sequences. Our indexing scheme can match time sequences of similar shapes irrespective of their vortical positions and guarantees no false dismissals

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of the minimum wage policy and the employment labor force in Myanmar by exploring firms' actions such as installing supplementary machines to substitute for labor resources and by addressing gender issues in employment. Research design, data, and methodology: This paper applies a fixed-effect estimation method by using the World Bank's enterprise panel data set surveyed in Myanmar. Results: Findings suggest that the minimum wage reduces both full-time and part-time employment, while the first minimum wage policy increases overall female employment. The adverse impacts are more pronounced for female employees of Joint Venture enterprises and enterprises located in the less-populated regions. Investment in capital such as equipment and machinery increase to substitute for labor after the minimum wage policy implementation; as a result, full-time employment slightly decreases. Conclusions: Appropriate measures concerning the minimum wage policy must be prepared by the government and institutions related to the labor union to serve the well-being of employees. Government of Myanmar should fix the minimum wage in a reasonable period based on the fiscal year for both employers and employees to prevent possible issues and losses resulting from the minimum wage being set.
