  • The optimum convolutional error correction codes for recently standardized Feher-patented quadrature phase-shift keying (FQPSK-B) modulation are proposed. We utilize the continuous phase modulation characteristics of FQPSK-B signals for calculating the minimum Euclidean distance of convolutional coded FQPSK-B signal. It is shown that the Euclidean distance between two FQPSK-B signals is proportional to the Hamming distance between two binary data sequence. Utilizing this characteristic, we show that the convolutional codes with optimum free Hamming distance is the optimum convolutional codes for FQPSK-B signals.

  • Criteria and designs are developed for estimating derivatives of P-variable second order polynomial response surfaces. The basic criterion used is mean square error of the estimated derivative, averaged over all directions and then averaged over a region of interest. A new design concept called slope-rotatability is introduced. A simplex optimization program is used to find minimum mena square error designs for the two variable case for $6 \leq N \leq 12$.

  • The problem is a variation of the weighted set-covering problem (SCP) which requires the minimum-cost cover to be self-covering. It is shown that direct extension of the well-known greedy heuristic for SCP can have an arbitrarily large error in the worst case. It remains an open question whther these exists a greedy heuristic with a finite error bound.

  • This paper considers model robust accelerated life test plans for estimating the logmean or percentile of product lige which is exponentially distributed. A linear relationship between the log mean life and the stress is assumed as usual, while the true relationship is quadratic. Optimum plans are then obtained by minimizing asymptotic mean squared error of maximum likelihood estimator of the log mean life.

  • This paper proposes the Minimum-Distance Classification(MDC) processor using the Residue Number System(RNS). The proposed MDC Processor in this paper is efficient for real-time pattern clustering application and illustrate satisfiable error rate in application experiments of image segmentation but error rate increase as cluster number do.

  • In this paper, a new scheme to calculate the weighting factor of the 2-D isotropic-dispersion finite difference time domain(ID-FDTD) is proposed. The weighting factor in [1] was formulated in free space, so that it may not be optimal in dielectric media. Therefore, the weighting factor was reformulated by considering the material properties and using the least mean square method. As a result, a minimum numerical dispersion error for any dielectric media is guaranteed.

  • A reduced-state sequence estimation(RSSE) for trellis-coded (TC) 8PSK/cyclic prefixed single carrier(CPSC) with minimum mean-square error-liner equalization(MMSE-LE) on frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels is proposed. The Viterbi algorithm (VA) is used to search for the best path through the reduced-state trellis combined equalization and TCM decoding. The symbol error probability of the proposed scheme is confirmed by computer simulation.

  • This paper presents robustness propertis of the Kalman Fiter and the associated LQG/LTR method for linear time-invariant output-delayed systems. It is shown that, even for minimum phase plants, the LQG/LTR method can not recover the target loop transfer function. Instead, an upper bound on the recovery error is obtained using an upper bound of the solution of the Kalman filter Riccati equations. Finally, some dual properties between output-delayed systems and input-delayed systems are exploited.

  • The Minimum Letter Flips (MLF) model and the Weighted Minimum Letter Flips (WMLF) model are for solving the haplotype assembly problem. But these two models are effective only when the error rate in SNP fragments is low. In this paper, we first establish a new computational model that employs the related genotype information as an improvement of the WMLF model and show its NP-hardness, and then propose an efficient genetic algorithm to solve the haplotype assembly problem. The results of experiments on random data set and a real data set indicate that the introduction of genotype information to the WMLF model is quite effective in improving the reconstruction rate especially when the error rate in SNP fragments is high. And the results also show that genotype information increases the convergence speed of the genetic algorithm.

  • The Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) system based on Angle-of-Arrival(AOA) estimation, interference suppression, and transmission beamforming techniques is a cutting edge technology for efficiently collecting various signal information. In this paper, we present the efficient structure of a satellite system consisted of an AOA estimator, an adaptive beamformer, a signal processing and D/B unit, and a transmission beamformer, for collecting signal information. For accurately estimating AOAs of various signals, efficiently suppressing interference or jamming signals, and efficiently transmitting the collected information or data, we employ Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR), and Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) algorithms, respectively. Also, we evaluate and analysis the performance of the presented satellite system through the computer simulation.
