  • Timing recovery for recently proposed nonlinear minimum-bandwidth systems is of concern since most conventional methods fail for these systems. As a method to surmount this retiming difficulty, this paper proposes the fourth-power-law method. The feasibility of the proposed method for minimum-bandwidth systems is shown through a rigorous analysis. Furthermore, extensive computer simulations are used to determine the best configurational strategy for various filters around the fourth-power nonlinear process. It is found that no intermediate filtering is necessary in general and even the pre-filtering can be omitted for systems having symmetric power spectral densities.

  • With the explosive growth and pervasive of the Internet, dynamic bandwidth allocation is nessary for ATM streams that carry various traffic. In order to provide quality of service(QoS) guarantees and to give the minimum cell rate, new bandwidth allocation scheme requires to be implemented. DFBA(Differential Fair Buffer Allocation) scheme is one of the methods for ATM GFR(Guaranteed Frame Rate) services. DFBA scheme treats cells selectively in a region between low buffer occupancy threshold and high buffer occupancy threshold. A big unbalance is introduced when the value being selected by DFBA scheme is greater than minimum rate. In a try to reduce the unbalance modified DFBA scheme is proposed. Selecting parameter according to the situation of network, this scheme is very effective to control the bandwidth in the various network situation.

  • A novel RF tunable bandpass filter structure using dielectric resonators and varactor diodes is considered for the optimization to achieve constant bandwidth with minimum passband insertion loss. The coupling between resonators is realized by coupling windows and series lumped L, C elements are used to realize the input/output stage couplings. A 5 poles, 0.01 dB ripple Chebyshev type filter tuned from 800 MHz~900 MHz is designed and presented in this paper. The passband bandwidth for the design is 10 MHz (fractional bandwidth = 1.2 %). Experimental results show that the 3 dB passband bandwidth variation is 12.04 MHz~12.16 MHz (less than 1 %) and passband insertion loss is 15 dB~7 dB depending on the tuning voltages.

  • Guaranteed frame rate (GFR) service has been defied to provide minimum cell rate (MCR) guarantees for virtual connections (VCs) carrying Internet traffic in ATM networks and allow them to fairly share residual bandwidth. The simplest switch implementation mechanism to support the GFR service in ATM networks consists of the frame-based generic cell rate algorithm (F-GCRA) frame classifier and the early packet discard (EPD)-like buffer acceptance algorithm in a single FIFO buffer. This mechanism is simple, but has foiled to guarantee the same bandwidth as an MCR to a VC that has reserved a relatively large MCR. This paper applies the packet spacing scheme to TCP traffic to alleviate its burstness, so as to guarantee a larger MCR to a VC. In addition, the random early detection (RED) scheme is added to the buffer acceptance algorithm in order to improve fairness in use of residual bandwidth. Simulation results show that the applied two schemes improve a quality of service (QoS) in the GFR service for the TCP traffic.

  • Research about QoS in the ad-hoc networks for stable service of various applications has been needed as the expectation about the realization of the ad-hoc networks grows bigger. Existing researches about QoS in the ad-hoc network had the problems which can not guarantee the quantitative services or create the overhead. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm of QFAN(QoS Framework for Ad-hoc Networks) the framework to resolve such problems and considered application of the proposed algorithm into the ad-hoc networks. Our model can guarantee the minimum bandwidth of the real-time traffic as minimized the overhead. And, disproportionate distribution of bandwidth problem can resolve by the proposed algorithm through the fair share between real-time traffic and best-effort traffic about available bandwidth. We design both the TiRe(Tiny Reservation) and the ADR(Adaptive Drop Rate) control algorithm to apply the proposed QFAN. Using simulation, we confirm fair share of available bandwidth between real-time traffic and best-effort traffic as guarantee minimum required bandwidth of real-time traffic.

  • Fourth-generation (4G) cellular communication systems must provide different quality-of-service (QoS) to users according to the service type, membership class, and usage case of each user. For the purpose of user's QoS differentiation, we propose an enhanced uplink random access scheme for bandwidth request. More specifically, we divide a bandwidth request channel into two parts: One is a primary region and the other is a secondary region. Then, each region has a unique minimum access class that allows only specific users to perform random access through that region. By doing so, we can reduce collision probability and increase the success probability of bandwidth request. From the perspective of standardization, we presented this scheme in the IEEE 802.16m Session #66 held on March 2010. As a result, the concept of the proposed scheme and required messages were defined in the 802.16m standard.

  • VBR compressed, pre-recorded video is known to exhibit significant, multiple time-scale bit rate variability. To reduce the variability and burstiness of the aggregated transmission rate as low as possible, in this paper, we present an adaptive bandwidth smoothing algorithm, that can be effectively applicalble for VoD services over a shared-medium channel. For these environments where many clients are connected to a single server, by introducing the conventional MVBA(minimum variability bandwidth allocation) algorithm and controlling adaptively the conventional MVBA(minimum variability bandwidth asllocation) algorithm and controlling adaptively the aggregated transmission rate whenever a new clients request is arrived at the server side, the proposed algorithm effectively reduces the burstiness and variability of the aggregated transmission rate. Through computer experiments, it is shown that the proposed method perporms better than the convertional non-aggregated bandwidth smoothing schemes in terms of the peak rate, standard deviation, number of rate changes for the aggregated traffic.

  • In this paper we have proposed a linear time algorithm for solving the minimum sharable-bandwidth tree construction problem. The public-shared network is a user generated infrastructure on which a user can access the Internet and transfer data from any place via access points with sharable bandwidth. Recently, the idea of constructing the SVC video streaming delivery system on public-shared network has been proposed. To send video stream from the stream server to clients on public-shared network, a tree structure is constructed. The problem of constructing a tree structure to serve the video streaming requests by using minimum amount of sharable bandwidth has been shown to be NP-hard. The previously published algorithms for solving this problem are either unable to find solutions frequently or less efficient. The experimental results showed that our algorithm is excellent both in the success rate of finding solutions and in the quality of solutions.

  • Wireless mesh network (WMN) is emerging a future core technology to resolve many problems derived from exist wireless networks by employing multi-interface and multi-channel. Ability to utilize multiple channels in WMNs substantially increases the effective bandwidth available to wireless network nodes. However, minimum interference channel assignment algorithms are required to use the effective bandwidth in multi-channel environments. This paper proposes a cluster-based minimum interference channel assignment (MI-CA) algorithm to improve the performance of WMN. The MI-CA algorithm is consists of Inter-Cluster and Intra-Cluster Intrchannel assignment between clusters and in the internal clusters, respectively. The Inter-Cluster channel assignment assigns a barebone channel to cluster heads and border nodes based on minimum spanning tree (MST) and the Intra-Cluster channel assignment minimizes channel interference by reassigning ortasgonal channels between cluster mespann. Our simheation results show that MI-CA can improve the performance of WMNs by minimizing channel interference.
