Systems such as database and socal network systems have been broadly used, and their unexpected failure, with great losses and sometimes a social confusion, has received attention in recent years. Therefore, it is an important issue to find optimal maintenance plans for such kind of systems from the points of system reliability and maintaining cost. However, it is difficult to maintain a system during its working cycle, since stopping works might incur users some troubles. From the above viewpoint, this paper discusses minimal repair maintenance policy with periodic replacement, while considering the random working cycles. The random working cycle and periodic replacement policies with minimal repair has been discussed in traditional literatures by usually analyzing cases for the nonstopping works. However, maintenance can be more conveniently done at discrete time and even during the working cycle in real applications. So, we propose that periodic replacement is planned at discrete times while considering the random working cycle, and moreover provide a model in which system, with a minimal repair at failures between replacements, is replaced at the minimum of discrete times KT and random cycles Y. The average cost rate model is used to determine the optimal number of periodic replacement.
This paper proposes the maintenance model of multi-component system when the failure characteristics and types of components are considered. In this model, it is assumed that a system is composed of a critical component, a major component and a minor component. Also, failure types is classified into major failure and minor failure. If major failure occurs to critical component before system age replacement time, the system is renewed. If major failure does not occur until its age replacement time, preventive maintenance is performed at age replacement time T. Minimal repairs are carried out after each minor failure. Major component is minimal-repaired if any failure is discovered during operation. Minor component should be replaced as soon as any failure is found. This paper determines the optimal replacement time of the system which minimizes total maintenance cost. Numerical example illustrates these results.

In this paper we consider a Bayesian theoretic approach to periodic incomplete preventive maintenance with minimal repair at failure. We assume that the system failure rate is increasing as the frequency of PM increases and that the system is replaced at the K-th PM under this maintenance strategy. The optimal policies which minimize the expected cost rates are discussed. We seek the optimal periodic PM interval x and replacement time K under a Weibull failure intensity. Assuming suitable prior distribution for the Weibull parameters, we derive the posterior distribution incorporating failure data and obtain the updated optimal replacement strategies.

As a system complexity increases and technology innovation progresses rapidly, leasing the equipment is considered as an important issue in many engineering areas. In practice, many engineering fields lease the equipment because it is an economical way to lease the equipment rather than to own the equipment. In addition, as the maintenance actions for the equipment are costly and need a specialist, the lessor is responsible for the maintenance actions in most leased contract. Hence, the lessor should establish the optimal maintenance strategy to minimize the maintenance cost. This paper proposes two periodic preventive maintenance policies for the leased equipment. The preventive maintenance action of policy 1 is performed with a periodic interval, in which their intervals are the same until the end of lease period. The other policy is to determine the periodic preventive maintenance interval minimizing total maintenance cost during the lease period. In addition, this paper presents two decision-making models to determine the preventive maintenance strategy for leased equipment based on the lessor's preference between the maintenance cost and the reliability at the end of lease period. The structural properties of the proposed decision-making model are investigated and algorithms to search the optimal maintenance policy that are satisfied by the lessor are provided. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed model. The results show that a maintenance policy minimizing the maintenance cost is selected as a reasonable decision as the lease term becomes shorter. Moreover, the frequent preventive maintenance actions are performed when the minimal repair cost is higher than the preventive maintenance cost, resulting in higher maintenance cost.

This paper proposes an optimal replacement policy following the expiration of a free renewing replacement-non-renewing minimal repair warranty. To do so, the free renewing replacement-non-renewing minimal repair warranty is defined and then the maintenance model following the expiration of free renewing replacement-non-renewing minimal repair warranty from the user's point of view is studied. As the criteria to determine the optimality of the maintenance policy, we consider the expected cost rate per unit time from the user's perspective. We derive the expressions for the expected cycle length and the expected total cost to obtain the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the numerical examples are presented for illustrative purposes.
An important problem in reliability analysis for repairable systems is to model the maintenance effect. The most of researches have assumed two extreme cases; one is perfect maintenance and the other is minimal maintenance. However, there are many cases in real situations that the maintenance effect are between both of two extreme cases. This article deals with the problem determining the imperfect preventive maintenance intervals for the doors in Metro EMU

Recently, an extended warranty of the system following the expiration of the basic warranty is becoming increasingly popular to the user. In this respect, we suggest a preventive maintenance model following the expiration of extended warranty with minimal repair warranty from the user's point of view in this paper. Under basic warranty and extended warranty, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user. For the preventive maintenance model, we derive the expressions for the expected cycle length, the expected total cost and the expected cost rate per unit time. Also, we determine the optimal preventive maintenance period and the optimal preventive maintenance number by minimizing the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the numerical examples are presented to illustrate the purpose when the failure time of the system has a Weibull distribution.

Almost preventive maintenance policies assumed that the system after pm has failure rate as before pm with probability p and as good as new with probability 1-p. This paper considers the s-expected cost of the model with imperfect periodic preventive maintenance that increasing minimal repair costs at failure and obtains the optimum periodic preventive maintenance time. Numerical example are shown in which the failure time of the system has gamma distribution.

This paper considers an aperiodic preventive maintenance (PM) model for repairable systems, in which the time intervals between two consecutive preventive maintenances are unequal. To propose such an aperiodic PM model, we assume that each PM reduces the current hazard rate by a certain amount which depends on the number of PMs performed previously. If the system fails between PMs, the minimal repair is performed and the hazard rate remains unchanged after the repair. We give the exact expressions for the hazard rate function for the aperiodic PM model. Based on the proposed aperiodic PM model, we suggest the maximum likelihood method to estimate the parameters characterizing the model and apply the method to the case of Weibull distribution. Numerical examples for estimating the parameters are presented for the purpose of illustration.

This paper is concerned with cost analysis model in free-replacement policy. The free-replacement policy with minimal repair is considered as follows; in a manufacturer's view point operating unit is periodically replaced, if a failure occurs between minimal repair and periodic maintenance time, unit is remained in a failure condition. Also unit undergoes minimal repair at failures in minimal-repair interval. Then total expected cost is calculated according to the parameter of failure distribution in a view of consumer's. The expected costs are included repair cost and usage cost: operating, fixed, minimal repair and loss cost. Numerical example is shown in which failure time of item has weibull distribution.
