  • This study investigated the effects of recombinant eel gonadotropin hormone (rJeGTH) produced in silkworms, with and without a carboxyl-terminal peptide from equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG), on the induction of sexual maturation in female eels Anguilla japonica. Experiments were conducted both in vivo and in vitro. In in vitro trials, germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD) induction did not significantly differ between rJeFSH and $rJeFSH{\cdot}eCG$ treatments and the control group. However, previous studies did find that rJeLH and $rJeLH{\cdot}eCG$ treatments induced GVBD in female eels. Our in vitro exploration of $estradiol-17{\beta}$ ($E_2$) levels in immature ovarian tissues revealed significantly higher $E_2$ levels in the group treated with $rJeFSH{\cdot}eCG$ $1{\mu}g/mL$ than in the control group. In contrast, the in vivo experiments showed no effect of recombinant hormones on the sexual maturation of feminized eels. Previous studies and our own in vitro results have clearly shown that rJeGTH and $rJeGTH{\cdot}eCG$ have a positive effect on the sexual maturation of feminized eels. To develop the activity of rJeGTH in vivo, further studies should confirm circulation time and activity of these hormones in eels' bloodstream, modify the structure of the recombinant gene, and implement additional glycosylation.

  • Buckwheat is a important vegetable in asia for long time. Recently, Buckwheat has attracted attention to its potential for health benefit and especially as a gluten-free food. Conventional buckwheat studies have focused on seeds and sprouts, but we studied the components of the aerial parts and roots of buckwheat after harvesting. Therefore, we hope that this research will be a basic study to expand the application range of buckwheat plants which are discarded after harvesting. The ethanol extracts of aerial part and roots of buckwheat (Daegwan, Yangjul) were analysed using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Rutin was detected as the major compound in Daegwan, Yangjul aerial part and Daegwan root extracts, except yangjul root extract. So we analysed Yangjul root extract using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and then obtained the informations about the components in Yangjul root extract. Yangjul root extract was analysed by $LC-MS^n$ in negative ESI mode within the range m/z 150-2000 amu. Totally, four components was found in the Yangjul root extract and obtained the fragments ion patterns of ones. Further study, we have to confirm the structure of components in Yangjul root extract and try to more biological activity test the components for development as useful food or cosmetic ingredients.

  • Objentive : This study was aimed to take a sensus of elementary school children who have atopic dermatitis(AD) especially the residents of Je-Cheon. Methods : We conducted a questionnaire survey of the elementary school children in Je-Cheon who have atopic dermatitis. 86 patients with AD were involved in the survey. The questionnaire was made up of their family history, past history, type of residence, favorite food, kinds of treatment, methods and satisfaction of oriental medicine treatment, use of complementary therapy, and hardship of life on atopic dermatitis, etc. Results : Parents' past history has a effect on children's AD. Especilly mother's has the greatest effect. About past history of patients, allergic rhinitis is most commonly found. Apartment is the most usual form of residence. Patients with AD enjoy meat diet, ice cream. They prefer western medicine treatment to oriental medicine treatment or popular remedy. They usually got oriental medicine treatment at clinic. Herbal remedy is used most frequently. About 77% of children are satisfied with oriental medicine treatment, and about 72% of children use complementary theraphy. Their favorite complementary theraphy is to apply humectant. Because of atopic dermatitis, about 74% of children have difficulty in daily life. And about 10% of children feel mental pressure. Conclusion : We analyzed not only patients' genetic, environmental factors but also use of complementary theraphy, method and satisfaction of oriental medicine treatment, etc. Through the survey, we could understand the actual conditions of elementary school children who have AD in Je-Cheon.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was investigated that correlation between The Junior Temperament and Character Inventory (JTCI3-6) and Mother's Stress Response Inventory(SRI) and Beck Depression Inventory(BDI). Methods : We investigated 48 cases of 3-6 year old infants. Mothers of infants answered that questionnaire about temperament, character of infants and stress, depression of themselves. JTCI3-6 and SRI, BDI were used to get to know that answers. Results : Infants of mothers with high stress levels were lower than infants of mothers with low stress levels in cooperativeness. Infants of mothers with high depression levels were lower than infants of mothers with low depression levels in cooperativeness. Stress of mothers was negative correlated with cooperativeness in temperament of infants. Depression of mothers was negative correlated with cooperativeness in character of infants. Conclusions : Stress and depression of mothers were negative correlated with cooperativeness in character of infants.
