  • Chondrosarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm originated from cartilage cells. This occurs less than 10% in the head and neck region. Chondrosarcoma of the condyle affects mainly women. The most common symptom is swelling in the preaucricular region, limited mouth opening and pain on chewing. This report describes a case of chondrosarcoma, which occurred in the mandibular condyle.

  • Citrate is mainly produced from fungi and oxygen transfer has been known as one of the important factors in citric acid production. A bubble column bioreactor was used for citrate production after pellet was initially made using a stirred bioreactor for the inoculation. The relationship between the pellet size of Aspergillus niger and the oxygen transfer was elucidated by considering morphological characteristics of the pellet. The pellet size was determined by adjusting the impeller speed in the stirred bioreactor and the optimum diameter of the pellet was observed to be 2.2 mm under the experimental conditions. Pellet was maintained quite stable in the bubble column bioreactor and production of citric acid was significantly improved by maintaining optimal pellet conditions in the bubble column bioreactor.

  • Wireless power transmission introduced by Tesla has instrumented by many scientists of the world. This technique first was utilized as wireless communications such as radio in long range transmission. And contactless transmission using inductive property was used on white goods. In 2007, MIT' lab introduced that new wireless power transmission by magnetic resonance which has about 50% efficiency and 2M transmission distances, it was a chance to refocus a new possibility of wireless power transmission. In this paper, using LC coupling compensate the short distances of contactless transmission, this simple method could transmit about 30cm distances. Using this approach, it can be solved the short transmission distances, a drawback of Electromagnetic inductive coupling method.

  • Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) are short amino acids that have been widely used to deliver macromolecules such as proteins, peptides, DNA, or RNA, to control cellular behavior for therapeutic purposes. CPPs have been used to treat immunological diseases through the delivery of immune modulatory molecules in vivo. Their intracellular delivery efficiency is highly synergistic with the cellular characteristics of the dendritic cells (DCs), which actively uptake foreign antigens. DC-based vaccines are primarily generated by pulsing DCs ex vivo with various immunomodulatory antigens. CPP conjugation to antigens would increase DC uptake as well as antigen processing and presentation on both MHC class II and MHC class I molecules, leading to antigen specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses. CPP-antigen based DC vaccination is considered a promising tool for cancer immunotherapy due to the enhanced CTL response. In this review, we discuss the various applications of CPPs in immune modulation and DC vaccination, and highlight the advantages and limitations of the current CPP-based DC vaccination.

  • Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers, and it is expected to become the second-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States by 2030. Its 5-year survival rate is <10% and approximately 15% of cases are eligible for surgical treatment during diagnosis. Furthermore, the risk of recurrence within 1 year postoperative is as high as 50%. Therefore, chemotherapy plays a crucial role in pancreatic cancer treatment. Survival rates are speculated to have improved since the introduction of FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel combination therapy for metastatic pancreatic cancer in the 2010s. Additionally, the implementation of both neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatments in resectable and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer caused better outcomes compared to upfront surgery. Recently, not only have these medications advanced in development, but so have PARP inhibitors and KRAS inhibitors, contributing to the treatment landscape. This study aimed to explore the latest insights into chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer.

  • The navigation algorithms enable autonomous mobile robots to reach given target points without collision against obstacles. To achieve safe navigations in unknown environments, this paper presents an effective navigation algorithm for the autonomous mobile robots with ultrasonic sensors. The proposed navigation algorithm consists of an obstacle-avoidance behavior, a target-reaching behavior and a fuzzy-based decision maker. In the obstacle-avoidance behavior and the target-reaching behavior, artificial immune networks are used to select a proper steering angle, make the autonomous mobile robot avoid obstacles and approach a given target point. The fuzzy-based decision maker combines the steering angles from the target-reaching behavior and the obstacle-avoidance behavior in order to steer the autonomous mobile robot appropriately. Simulational and experimental results show that the proposed navigation algorithm is very effective in unknown environments.

  • Bacterial reverse mutation assays were performed for 20 workplace chemicals in Korea, which were selected among workplace chemicals under the Korea Industrial Safety and Health Act (KISHA) with the occupational exposure levels (OELs). The assays were carried out by using the pre-incubation method ($37 ^{\circ}C$, 20 min) with and without metabolic activation using Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537 and E. coli WP2uvrA. The chemicals were tested at 5 concentrations both in the preliminary and the second assays. Despite the cell toxicities, there were no chemical-induced mutagenicities with or without metabolic activation in any of 20 chemicals.

  • This study proposes a Bayesian dynamic model in a hierarchical way to assess the time-varying effect of risk factors on the likelihood of corporate bankruptcy. For the longitudinal data, we aim to describe dynamically evolving effects of covariates more articulately compared to the Generalized Estimating Equation approach. In the analysis, it is shown that the proposed model outperforms in terms of sensitivity and specificity. Besides, the usefulness of this study can be found from the flexibility in describing the dependence structure among time specific parameters and suitability for assessing the time effect of risk factors.

  • In this work, optimal finish machining condition considering total time for mold or electrode manufacturing was investigated. First, manual finishing time according to the machining condition was analyzed for the work material. The effect of runout and phase shift of tool path on surface finish was also considered in those analyses. Secondly, optimal manual finishing processes were determined for various machining conditions. Finally, finish machining time and corresponding manual finishing time were taken into account for the estimation of the total time of manufacturing mold. Though small feed per tooth and pick feed reduced the manual finishing time, the finish machining time increased in such conditions. With a machining condition of feed per tooth of 0.2 mm and pick feed of 0.3 mm, the minimum total time of manufacturing mold was achieved in our machining condition.
