  • Model-based testing is a technique for performing the test by using a model that represents the behavior of the system as a system specification. Industrial domains such as automotive, military/aerospace, medical, railway and nuclear power generation require model-based testing and code coverage-based testing to improve the quality of software. Despite the fact that both model-based testing and code coverage-based testing are required, difficulty in achieving a high coverage using model-based testing caused by the abstraction level difference between the test model and the source code, results in the need for performing model-based testing separately. In this study, to overcome the limitations of the existing model-based testing, we proposed the state machine transformation method to effectively improve the code coverage using the protocol state machine, one of the typical modeling methods is used as the test model in model-based testing, as the test model. In addition, we performed a case study of both systems and analyzed the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • To cope with the rising cost of the fossil fuel and the need of renewable energy, many wind farms are being constructed along the coasts of Korean peninsula. However, construction of these wind farms may cause negative influences by the shielding effect and the Doppler frequency from the wind turbine on the military radars operated in the nearby region. Therefore, the analysis of electromagnetic phenomenon with the real wind turbine is required. This paper compare the measured electromagnetic shielding effect and Doppler effect with theoretical shielding effect according to obstacle in literature and the extracted Doppler frequency through signal modeling.

  • To supplement energy needs and take advantage of renewable energy sources, many wind farms are currently being built in mountainous areas under the supervision of the Korean government. However, operation of these wind farms can cause serious threats to national security due to Doppler modulation from the wind turbines causing interference with military radar operating in the vicinity. Therefore it is necessary to develop methods to analyze the Doppler frequency during the operation of wind turbines and the effect on radar signals. Based on modeling of the mountainous region, blockage analysis, turbine motion and the radar signals, this paper proposes a signal processing method to extract and analyze the Doppler frequency. Simulation results showed the change of Doppler frequency over time caused by the geometry of the mountainous area and the wind turbine.

  • Recently, as the education population of Korea has been rapidly declining, many changes have been taking place in the university environment. Especially, community colleges linked to local communities have responded to these crises through various educational changes, such as three-year study transfers, work-parallelism, and employee commissioned education. However, such changes in the contents of education are causing a new type of classroom allocation problem, in which it is difficult to assign the limited number of classrooms to the major courses. In this paper, we classified the constraints involved in assigning classrooms into absolute constraints and relative constraints, mathematically modeled them, and allocated the classrooms optimally through optimization software. The results were satisfactory and enabled us to obtain superior results in terms of the various performance indices (classroom utilization rate, teacher satisfaction, etc.) than when assigning classrooms in the normal way.

  • In most positioning and allocation practices, many mathematical models are proposed in various fields. The set covering (SC) problem has many practical applications of modeling not only real world problem but also in military. As our air defense weapon systems are getting older and declining the performance, new plans far acquisition of high-tech air defense weapon system are being conducted. In this paper we established simulation model for optimal allocation of KDX which carries new missile defense weapon system by using partial set covering considering both attacker and defender side. By implementating simulation model, we assess the available scenarios and show the optimal pre-positioning of KDX and interceptor's allocation. Furthermore, we provide a variety of experiments and extensive scale sized situations for Korea Indigenous Missile Defense (KIMD) and support decision-making for efficient positioning of unit.

  • The enemy will attempt to destroy our troop's core facilities using various fire supports at the beginning of war. Among these fire supports, artillery is given the most deal of weight and mine artillery is a great threat to our troops because it has a superior predominance on the ability of survival. Our troops are planning to introduce UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) to overcome these difficulties. A study about hitting mine artillery has been developed inside the military field only. However, these studies had been mostly qualitative analyses, thus having limitations in the aspects of non objectiveness and simplicity. We propose a new method to evaluate about working effect of UAV hitting mine artillery. We studied on hitting mine artillery in a quantitative way using CA (Cellular Automata) simulation.

  • The next-generation war game simulators need a technique that reuses resources disperse on the web, and reorganizes federates on the fly based on the various events in real time. So far, HLA-based federates limit their interoperability to military networks, and in syntax-level. Web services techniques are widely used in enterprise applications and provide many proven practices to extend interoperability between WAN resources in semantic level. Two problems are met in order to utilize web services into war-game simulator : 1) How to achieve semantic-level interoperability between federates disperse on WAN, 2) How to interoperate web-based federates and RTI-based federates. In this paper, we provide solutions to the problems and highlight advantages using web-based federates with an example of ASuW(Anti-Surface Warfare).

  • Recent modeling and simulation technologies are being used in various fields, especially in the field of military simulation-based acquisition (Simulation Based Acquisition) is recognized as an essential policy. In test and evaluation phase of the SBA process, to build a simulation-based T&E(test and evaluation) environment is needed when T&E cannot be carried by real weapon system. To improve efficiency and reliability for T&E, interoperability, reusability and reliability for T&E equipments and systems are important. In this study, we propose applying simulation framework for efficienct test and applying VV&A process for reliable evaluation. We describes the characteristics of the development process, the actual test cases and the results of evaluation. Finally utilization plan and the future direction of research is described.

  • High Level Architecture(HLA) for modeling and simulation is an international technical standard to achieve simulation interoperability and reusability. Building federation through the interworking of federates is being used in various fields and is being used in KR(Key Resolve), UFG(Ulchi-Freedom Guardian) as a representative in domestic military. Currently, United States Department of Defense emphasizes the HLA compliance test, which confirms the compliance of Federate by using HLA. However, due to the limitations of testing tools, an HLA compliance test of DoD is not able to perform some of the functional tests on HLA/RTI services such as federation storage/recovery services and also exclude inspection of exchange data between federates. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an HLA compliance testing system of ROK suitable for domestic situations. This will enable effective HLA compliance testing and improve interoperability between federates.

  • Various sizes of ROVs are being utilized in offshore industrial, scientific, and military applications all around the world. Because of innovative developments in science and technology, image acquisition devices such as sonar devices and cameras have been reduced in size and their performance has been improved. Thus, we can expect better accuracy and higher resolution even in the case of exploration using a small ROV. The purpose of this paper is to prepare a standard procedure for the identification of unidentified hazardous materials found during the National Oceanographic Survey. In this paper, we propose an IDEF (Integrated DEFinition) method modeling technique to identify unidentified targets using a small ROV. In accordance with the proposed procedure, an ROV survey was carried out on target No.16 with a four-ton-class fishing boat as a support vessel on September 18th of 2018 in the sea near Daebu Island. Unidentified targets, which were not known by the multi-beam data obtained from the ship, could be identified as concrete pipes by analyzing the HD camera and high-resolution sonar images acquired by the ROV. The whole proposed procedure could be verified, and the survey with the small ROV required about 10 days to identify the target in one place.
